- This was probably the most controversial concert of Pink Floyd's career. Despite local protests, they were allowed to play a free concert from a badge in the lagoon opposite St. Marks square, from where an estimated 200.000 people watched. The concert was nearly cancelled on July 13th when the City's Superintendent of Monuments claimed that the vibration could damage buildings. To pacify critics, Pink Floyd played at reduce volume, but there still claims of damage to marble cladding after the concert. Lamp-Posts were also broken by fans climbing them for a better view.
The city authorities failed to provide facilities for the visitin fans, many of whom slept in St. Marks square. They left behind them 300 tons of litter and feces, which had to be cleared by the army.
After a seven-hour sitting, the council apologized to Venice residents for the inconvenience, promising that no similar concert would ever be allowed.
The alderman in charge of Venice's Culture Committee, explaining: "I feel that I have to go, because I'm one of the people who gave the go-ahead for this concert".
Despite initially refusing to do likewise, the rest of the council went soon after, leaving the city in the hands of an ad-hoc administration.
Over 100 Million viewers in 23 countries (including the Soviet Union, Israel, Yugoslavia and East Germany) saw the show on TV. - Hudba
THe Gilmour led years were Pink Floyd at it's peak. David took the band to the next level after Roger leaving. The band was bigger than ever in 1986-96. Two brilliant albums and tours.
I HAVE MET DAVID GILMOUR! all my life i had watched him thinking what would i do if i did??? then on the 16th of august 2008 at 20.16pm i was in the hotdog line and turn round to dave standing behind me... i could never explain in words the feeling i felt at that moment!!!!!!! my life was complete at that very MOMENT!!!!!!!! =))
he was as shocked as me...lol after i asked for a pic,he said "hurry then before people notice"....lol he is a gentleman.. =)))))
Pink Floyd is Beyond,
one of few band who could reach the secret!
I think i know exactly what you mean
Best song they've ever done... ;)
The Gilmour years are very underrated, yes. Most people don't acknowledge them, but A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell had a great feel, and are just all-around great albums to listen to.
The Division Bell is actually by and far my favorite album they did. Closely followed by A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and The Final Cut.
Oh Pink Floyd.... What i would kill to have lived in that era.
i was speechless... i just said i am your biggest fan.. and can i have a photo please..... shine on.. =)))
David Gilmour - you are the best.
I'll listen to anything that he plays on.
he has a house in hove east sussex... 10 minute drive from my house... =)))
This is one of my favorite Pink Floyds songs, I cant imagine it being under-appreciated.
Joint effort of Dave Gilmour and the almighty Patrick Leonard, two absolute greats in the alternative music scene.
I went to this concert when I was a kid. I didn't know who Pink Floyd was at the time, I just knew the fans had trashed the city, and there weren't enough hotels or bathrooms for all the people that came, also a bird shit on my shoulder during the concert itself, and I was extremely grossed out by it, I remember a bunch of stoned italians thought I was the funniest thing they had ever seen, and laughed at me for like 10 minutes straight,. In retrospect I'm extremely happy I was a part of this.
My favourite show of Pink Floyd!
My favorite pink Floyd song.
Great Synths sounds, great drum sounds, great everything!
Another great floyd song off their MLOR album which includes sorrow, on the turning away, learning to fly, cluster one, terminal frost and many others.
the studio album has the evilest meanest angiest guitar solo in the middle of the song. Gilmour used heavy metal effects pedal on here.
Is that the one you're talking about? If theres a meaner one, I'd like to hear it :D
in fact its my favorite gilmour solo of all time :)
This is for Spectroman10. In a interview before the concert in Portugal "alvalade" They said they were in another dimention of work, because of new equipment, modern times. Its prety normal Momentary lapse of reason was a complete new dimension , and that it would be alot diferent of all otheres. Remember that it was when they reunited again without Waters.
it took a while for me to understand it. That and The Division Bell are now the 2 best albums in my opinion,
One of my favourite songs of late Floyd!
Definitely one my favorite Gilmour guitar solos. It pierces my ears into my my very being.
this is the first time I see a video of live performance of this song, and that concert. is there any more videos of that event?
You guys should check out this song on Delicate Sound of Thunder... the best version by far.... it's a shame nobody has uploaded it yet... guess I'll have to do it myself someday....
Tema oscuro, denso, impactante. Mi grupo preferido.
This song rocks and this live version is a great one. One of my favorite songs made by Gilmour.
ooo yeah hes totally amazing! best guitarist ever! i love the close up on his hands.. its crazy watching him play! i totally wish he would agree to do the comeback tour! it would be AMAZING to see them live...the comment on the aging is just a side note...
my favourite song on the album
few weeks before they played at Cava deiTirreni,Salerno, near Napoli,I was there I can't really forget them...
Can't believe you met him. I'll no doubt never meet him but it would be a thrill. Idolized him since I was about 10 years old, now 26 years old.
I think i'd be nervous to approach him but at the same time I'd feel it was too big an opportunity to pass up.
The best version of this song ive ever heard, infact i think that this venice concert was probably the best sounding gig that they have ever done.
This concert is not finished yet !
i love this so much! god i wish so bad i couldve gone to one of their shows! so amazing!
did nick jump up and play drums above his head at one point? it looked like it...
and this is random...but is it just me or did david gilmour age like A LOT between 84-89?
Oh and The Dogs of War which is the best deep cut on the album in my opinion.
the Delicate Sound Of Thunder version is the bets by far
one of my favorite floyd songs i like how most of their best songs arent that well known and they dont play them on the radio where im from its always Time,Money,Wish,Numb,LT fly,Cigar....92.5 fm in MN is where its at..
The movie track used at the start is from 'dirty harry' instead of 'casablanca' as on Yet another Movie' on A Momentry lapse of Reason, even tho as a Pink Floyd fan the best version and guitar solo is on the DSOT live album.
@mattaystig what town does he live in?
In my dreams I still hope that Floyd will re-unite & record that new album that Roger started but never released. He wrote & recorded tracks but then put the whole thing on hold to tour for 10 years!! I know it's not very likely but it would be the perfect way to re-unite the band. In reality I doubt that David & Nick would simply let Roger lead the band & record HIS album but that's what made Floyd great. Rogers emotional, intense lyrics combined with David's emotional, intense guitar work.
the lord of the 6 string, that fender is beautiful
That's pretty sick looking what he does with the guitar at 4:43. Awesome song.
Interesting opinion, this probably my fourth or fifth favorite song on the album.
Early Pink Floyd was progressive and their concerts were very improvisational. I love some of those 70's shows where they would jam out the end of SOYCD for 10 or 20 minutes. I wish they would release some of those old shows. They are releasing the 74 Wembley show!! It will be included in the new "IMMERSION" box sets coming next month!! They will also include one of the very early DSOTM shows from 72! & early Animals tracks from 74 ("Raving & Drooling" & "You've Got to be Crazy") I can't wait!!
he aged alot more from 89-94, just look at him at this concert and then compare it to Pulse! Hes still amazing!
Yes on the studio album of this song he uses one of the heavy metal pedals by Boss. A really cheap pedal. Gilmour uses a lot of Boss pedals such as the Boss CS-2 Compressor/Sustainer and Boss GE-7 (Graphic Equalizer). See gilmourish(.)com - thats where i found out. Its a site dedicated to knowing stuff about gilmour sound.
About the best albums ever... i realy can say a favorite... i love all albums.. all. But mostly i hear meedle lately, and atom heart mother. Lol what am i saying , i listen to all. Pink Floyd is my life completely.
Actually, according to Nick Mason's 'Inside Out' the damage done in Venice was grossly exaggerated. So wish I 'd been there though. :-)
No! Wouldn't take a post from someone that truly is their username either.
Meticulous bliss. Bravo, 1,2.
Amazing.
David can't write lyrics to save his life! Polly actually wrote "On an Island" and it's no secret that David didn't write most of "Division Bell" & "Momentary lapse." David writes amazing music but most of his lyrics end up being about walking around in the woods holding hands. It doesn't go to well with intense, dark melodies... What I loved about MLOR & DB was that they took the Floyd sound back to a point when everyone had input, like during the "Meddle" , "Obscured" and "More" years...
atemporal
Epic!
Pink Floyd is my inspiration......
ita a shame the light show on this tour was so poor, or didnt come out well on video.
And i do love this song, slow drums with great impact, wontderfull keyboard work by Rick as allways, and a great agony guitar worrk. its a prety deep song. love it and feel it.
It was Gary Wallis jumping.
This's no ordinary , this is really dazzling ,, Pink Floyd playing and dazzling should be studied at faculties of medicine because it's really obsessive
Brilliant.
MIERDAAAA QUE RECUERDOS, EL MEJOR GRUPO DE LA PUTA HISTORIA.. Y PENSAR Q ALGÚN DÍA YA NO ESTARÁN... NOOOOOOO 2018
Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs".
@mattaystig Good For you boy!!
deliver iranian rock fans deep deep respects
we'll never have the chance to be in a live show as a dam back sitting audience!
Have shit on my messy life!
i was born on this day.
A man in black snow white horse!
Это одно из лучших композиций,что я слышал.....
Алексей Миронов daccord avec toi
@AICTAHA i couldnt agree more buddy!!! SHINE ON =)))
sonzeira progressiva animal..........
@dreamwad1 I agree that MLOR and DB feel like they are more a product of the whole band, but they mostly sound much more generic than PF previous stuff. Gilmour kicks ass musically any time he composes something with a guitar in between, but he lacks the direction of sheer emotion Roger's stuff conveyed. Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut are just overwhelmingly emotional, and Roger's lyrics are just kickass; the dude just poured himself on them. I doubt I've heard better lyrics than those.
what about SORROW?
David himself confesses that he is not good at lyrics. But is it all? Lyrics is half of the Songs
David's songs are outstanding,His music is PF's music. If you go there and listen to Roger's solo songs clearly u'll notice lack of soul in his music! Lyrics is profound but lacks soul in melody. The same story is in David's Lyrics.anyway,I adore Gilmour .Pf's two last albums Are PF's masterpieces.I do believe in this
capolavoro
. .from 4:15 for a while . . man!!!
Well actually if anyone thinks of Pink Floyd he probably thinks of Progressive Rock, but of course no one can copy the sound of the Floyd. :]
why arent you being supervised while on the internet. Wheres your parents
KOTY!!!
Eighter you cannot focus on the visualls because the music or you cannot fosus on the music because the visualls...
