- Records by Scandinavian swing / jazz musicians are a rare find in my native Belgium. a few years ago, I found a number of records by Scandinavian musicians at the Brussels flea market. They were part of collection that was being sold and today's video features one of the records I bought that day "My Buddy" by the Thore Ehrling and his orchestra.
Thore Ehrling (1912-94) was a Swedish trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, who led jazz and popular music ensembles. After playing in a number of orchestras, he founded his own septet in 1938. By 1940 it had grown into a big band. He made numerous recordings for the Lindström group (Odeon) and Telefunken and other labels (he participated in approximately 1000 titles between 1932 and 1972). Ehrling also was also active in the movie industry and founded his own music publishing house. I can only imagine the Telefunken recordings were made purely for the Swedish market and for export to neutral / unoccupied Europe. According to Horst A. Lange these records were not sold in Germany. Interestingly the label is in German (except for the title). For the Swedish market the record was issued with Swedish titles and a different catalogue number.
The video features sequences of historic Stockholm from the travelogue "Venice of the North" which have been restored and upscaled to a 4K resolution. They were then colorized purely for entertainment purposes. The colorization is NOT historically correct but it tries to recreate the look and feel of early color home movies.
