Hey Scotty...thanx for helping us all...I got scammed by an auto ''Harry's Tire Shop'' in Auburn, NY for $4,334. Went in for a sticker and an O2 sensor. They said the only place they could get 1 sensor(that I didn't need was from a chain...thus the $454 sensor ... they said I needed another sensor. OK... They insisted on a $1200 payment. I needed an inspection. Told them I needed a coil (which I already had in my car...and told them I was replacing that cause it was easy)...they told me I needed another one. 2nd and only other thing I wanted them to do was put the inspection on it. They told me , and wrote on my bill that the front 2 were ''slinging oil.'' They said AC light was on but it was ok B4 i got there. They charged me $1370 to ''NOT FIX'' my AC WHICH THEY MESSED WITH WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I paid for the 2 struts and arms...which I haven't checked to see if the ''arms'' which maybe in 2 years as they were ''bone dry'' and NOT ''slinging oil.'' These guys screwed me royally for ''1'' sensor...but they never put the 2nd in...for the exhaust that I had just replaced the day before. So they said I ''gave them permission...I did not and never signed s work order to let them touch whatever they wanted to ''pack my bill.'' I saved the sensor that they took off...no exposed wiring...but they changed that anyway and didn't replace the sensor that I was paying them to do....I'm going to drag the sensors into court. PS: They said they wouldn't pass it for inspection unless I got brand new front struts...and charged 10 1/2 hours labor to change 2 struts which I know should have been 3.5 hours labor...truth...why are they doing this? ...it used to be a very reputable place...but the new owner Named ''REISTER'' OBVIOUSLY RUNS HIS BUSINESS because he doesn't believe in honesty. Well the only way I can help others is put the bill for my sticker and this testimonial up on to everyone on FACEBOOK so ''buyer can beware.'' I just chanfed my sensor and AC switch myself...I won't even tell you about them screwing w/my AC and the $1230 bucks for ;;nothing'' that they did on THAT.

Years ago I was shopping for a SUV. Was hoping to score a good used Pilot but ended up finding some MDXs. Went to test drive a 2005 model (10 years old at the time) and the dealer let me take it to my mechanic who couldn't find a single thing wrong and then I took it to a friend who works at an auto body shop and he passed the car with flying colors. I decided to buy the vehicle. Loved the roominess and it was handy to have as a backup car or for when I needed to haul a large item. However, I really didn't drive the car as much as I thought I would so after 2 years I sold it to my dad. He absolutely loves that car and drives it EVERYWHERE. Car now has almost 180k on the odometer (had 118k when I bought it) and not a single thing wrong. This car is solid! For $10k this was definitely a fantastic purchase.

I mostly drove fwd vehicles but early on I owned rwd old GM cars
My first time having an awd vehicle in heavy snow was an absolute game changer. I got snowed in somewhere and didn't have a shovel.. I was driving a 2007 CRV touring.. and it effortlessly climbed out. I don't expect a CRV to be on the level of a 4x4.. but I gotta say, I am highly impressed with that vehicle.
Both faults listed in this video I've had issues with. AC died on me and had to be fixed.

Brilliant video, in-depth experience imparted to the masses. I like your objectivity, such as: "Most economical is a sedan, but if you have these requirements, then go for one-of-these SUVs, but not one of those SUVs." Fair and balanced.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only guy on the road in a sedan. '99 Camry, no antilock braking :( 110k miles! So I learned from Scotty to be a little more tolerant of there being a place for SUVs.
My wife had a Honda Pilot for a few years, then upgraded to a later model Honda Pilot. I thought she was crazy, supporting the oil companies. Once or twice a year, she packed the SUV to from floor to rafters with grandkids, almost a baseball team's worth, and they all fit inside with their assorted mothers. But she talked in her sleep, and the real reason she wanted an SUV was so she wouldn't get intimidated so much by aggressive drivers. At least she wasn't an aggressive driver herself. But I don't think annual visits from all the grandkids is sufficient reason to make an SUV as your everyday vehicle. Do I remember, it got around 18 mpg on the highway, 15 or less around town, maybe.
I would take nighttime trips in my previously owned 2001 Civic EX (5 speed, I think it was after 200k I had to start adding oil -- the mechanic said every Civic in the world needs oil added at that point. Needed a head gasket somewhere around 250k miles -- it was overheating under load, air was leaking into the head gasket and settling up near the thermostat. And there was some kind of $500 valve that only appeared in the EX model. If I understand right, I was good enough with shifting, that the clutch disk was still good when the clutch needed service, but there's that pressure plate (?) with all those tiny, heavy springs that was a mess. Springs were dislodged from their positions and pointing in all sorts of directions, trouble pressing the clutch pedal, the last trip was to the mechanic, where I was convinced to replace all the pieces while they were in there. Maybe destroying the pressure plate indicates there's something wrong with my shifting -- I always tried to drop it into gear quickly at just the right rpm, I got it over 75% of the time. New clutch, and it was beautiful again. Thank God I missed the other problems that Scott mentioned about the 2001, maybe the previous owner fixed them before "getting rid of the car." No monthly payments for me.
I would take nighttime trips on I-80 and set the cruize control to 60 or less. If I came up on a truck that was going even slower, I'd get behind him by a tenth of a mile or so, so as not to be aggressive, and when he went even slower going uphill, I'd slow down too. I should have had a CB so I coulda told them I was trying to maximize my mpg. I peaked at 42 mpg a few times, and I'm sure others have done better.
Scott, you also must cut down on coffee. I thought you're a lunatic, but CZcams kept suggesting your videos to me, but you kept giving me a proximity high so I didn't subscribe. But this video has so much good advice, right down to the best model-years to buy or to avoid, which is priceless advice. Compared to Consumer Reports which gives snapshots of individual models, this video gives Quicker and easier to digest information, comparing years and decades of different manufacturer's different models, cutting to the chase about what you really should spend your money on -- in someone's particular situation -- so they don't waste their money.
My advice -- Take 4000 I.U. vitamin D every day to support resistance to those damned viruses. And a couple hundred milligrams Magnesium daily to activate the vit D. 30 mg zinc just a few times a week. 1000 mg vit C a couple of times a day. Stay well.

I currently own a 2016 Elantra. So far the only problem I have had was the electronic power steering went out. I am the 2nd owner but the dealer covered the repair under warranty which involved replacing the steering column. They treated me like gold and were the epitome of customer service. My sister in law has a 2005 Tuscon that she bought new and has not had any problems whatsoever. I've seen a lot of Toyota trucks with rusted out frames.

We still own a CRV from 2001. No rust, garaged, with less than 110K miles. Excellent vehicle that we keep for the winter (in the mountains).

I bought a '96 Ram 5.9 4x4 with 110k for $11k in 2000 and drove that truck daily for 18 years. 1 tranny rebuild, 1 rear diff rebuild, I think 3 water pumps, 1 starter, 1 fuel pump, 1 radiator, 1 fan clutch, and I think I did plugs wires cap and rotor 3 times... Overall not too shabby for 18 years. Oh yeah, replaced the front end suspension, shocks, and u joints twice too.

You're filming techniques are getting so much better that was an awesome video. I just noticed that your Jeep sounds a little angry like it needs a shot of DEP was that my imagination? But I didn't see any smoke coming out that's always a good thing. Anyways great video look forward to then every week. Keep up the good work.

i recently purchased a 2005 cr-v in december. unfortunately its having a torque comverter
shudder; however, for 164k miles, it’s been extremely reliable, I’m happy with it. plus, with a warranty, I’m able to get the torque converter replaced for nearly free.

If it’s at 28 mph going from 2nd to 3rd then it’s the same as elements. There’s an inline trans filter up front that most don’t know needs to be changed eventually. Even most Honda techs don’t know it’s there since it’s not considered a service item. Have them change it and that shudder usually goes away. For $100 👍
