Call me cold blooded, but if someone I'm actually afraid of threatens to commit suicide...... I would not try to talk them out of it.
If someone threatens suicide as a means to manipulate you, 10 times out of 10 it’s an empty threat anyways. Somebody that narcissistic would never actually go through with it.
Edit: I wrote that before I got to that part of the story. I actually believe the MIL would try to because she’s that unhinged.

@@dtorres333Look, I agree that all stories on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, the complexity and sheer sadness of this situation makes it a lot more plausible. It’s incredibly rude and ignorant to dismiss any tale of severe mental health issues as, ‘fake stories,’ just because OP describes their life experiences in a different way than you would have. People this unstable do exist and they need support in their lives. The forums and threads these stories come from exist solely for the purpose of seeking advice and support. I don’t think you should blindly believe everything you read, but you should understand the greater context of the situation at hand and think before you speak.
Op needs to stop feeling guilty bc "she's ill 🥺". Her being ill is no excuse to fail to protect your family, sometimes you have to lose whatever empathy and do what needs doing

Lol it's not her church that is teaching that God invented Mothers Day, it's her delusions. It is very common for the mentally ill to blame/name God for their thoughts and actions. That is why in the Bible it states to never take the Lords name in vain. This doesn't mean to not say "God damn it", it means to never use the name of God for your own agenda and pretend that it's His.

People that become so deluded into thinking that someone else's child is their own have a very high possibility of kidnapping that child, even if that means hurting or even killing the real parents or anyone that gets in the way of them attaining their "child". Op and her husband absolutely did the right move with getting far away from the step-MIL
S-MIL needs to go to intensive therapy.
the first story is absolutely tragic, I also feel rage towards FIL who was acting like a coward by not helping his wife. I knew a person with similar delusions and that woman was suffering so much. My heart goes to all women who can't become mothers 💔 It's sad that nobody proposed to S-MIL that she could adopt a child before she spiralled
sadly there is a chance that it wouldn't have worked, or even make the situation worse
A lot of places do require some sort of evaluation before they let you adopt. It's possible that she may have tried and wasn't allowed to.

For anyone who's genuinely curious, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is a 1992 psychological thriller in which a woman is m0lested by her OBGYN and reports him to the board, with four other women coming forward about him as well. In order to avoid getting arrested and losing his license, he takes his own life and the shock of this results in his wife miscarrying. She ends of seeking revenge on the main woman by posing as a nanny with the end goal of taking her children for herself. Additionally there's a 1917 silent film of the same title that is completely separate from this film and a Hindi remake that came out a year later in 1993 called Kaal-Naaikaa

Sometimes i think we're too quick to believe people like this are genuine in having psychological issues and that some people are mimicking those issues in order to get what they want as well as be the center of attention being a drama-wh**e.
