  • Holden VY2 LS1 GM P01 V8 PCM was tuner locked and we needed to diagnose some thermo fan cooling profile issues we found it was locked by someone of the pervious ownership. Some research and we had been able to sucsesfully flash the PCM with a factory tune using HP Tuners (VCM Editor), figured this might be useful to someone else out there!

Would it be worth throwing on an exhaust, intake, and the Avalanche tune?

Could do primary objective is to get it operating normally, correct cooling profiles and reliability then Wal will likely add some performance/sound and a good tune. LS tunes when you advance timing a little correctly I’ve seen keep good power and better fuel. Even on AWD models I’ve see 9.5L/100 highway and 12L/100 mixed urban conditions when driven normally. Although Wal is a spirited driver. We have a good LS tuner know in the community.

No this won’t work with E55 ECU/PCM presumable to be totally different logic. I don’t even fully understand why this works, but I assume it has something to do with going into recovery mode of some sort and it temporarily gives you read and write access. Using another program (which I can’t mention here) I was able to inspect communication between PCM and software and can see it just simply gives the all clear 67 01 34 response which then then HP Tuners accepts and lets you read/write anyway. I’m not really all within the programming world of things this was totally experience based off someone else’s find. I’ve never seen a locked E55 before what do you need to do with your VZ Alloytec to need to do this?

@@AllTerrainAction well previous owner said its been tuned on 98 but no proof no print outs ect and gear ratio on a tech2 /vident 1400 says gear ratio are 3.9s but the diff sticker says 2.87:1 is the only way for someone to of changed that gear ratio in the ecu have to of used hp tuners ect? / get it tuned as it has pacemaker extractors hiflow cats twin exhaust system and growler intake so trying to see if i can look at the tune file on HP tuners ect myself so I don't have to pay the local place $300 just to have it checked ect but I can't seem to find a cable that goes from the VZ E55 ECU to a laptop so I can actually check cheers

And it also says requested torque is at 99% so I'm not sure if that's stock for a vz v6 ect but yea hoping to find out if it's tuned or not tuned or is tuned but needs a tune ect as I was running very very rich both fuel trims would be -1 for bank 1 sensor 1 ect short term fuel trips but long term were -50 ect like crazy numbers and exhaust is completely caked in sook inside and the front o2s going into the pacemakers have seemed to be not present anymore but when looking at live data all o2s are reading ? but the rear 2 into the hiflow cats are still working fine

Can simply connect hp tuners on the mpvi3 to pull tune down and compare to a factory one, to see what might be different. If it was tuned for 98 you’ll quickly see the difference. Most of the time this just means they had the car go in with a full tank of 98 and the tuner worked off the 98 baseline and then tuned it off that.

How many cars have you worked on ? You are seriously worried about water / coolant and the engine overheating ? Sir from someone who works on many V8s LS included , I'd bet money you could drive that for an hour with no water , I did in Brisbane 8 suburbs , stuck at lights ECT NO water at all about 50 min trip ! Engine was fine once rad was fixed and still going years later , modern cars can temp sense , if it gets too hot it drops certain cylinders to run cool air through engine ( limp home cooling mode) plus the large amount of oil cools the engine through the alloy sump very well , I wouldn't drive to Townsville but like I said 50 + min no water at all ! Still ran fine 50 min later when I turned it off , I've seen a ford six do it too and a Buick / Commodore do it even longer !

I probably could, but I'd rather not if it's avoidable. Definitely between point A and B in this video, there’s probably not much to worry about. The oil temperature wouldn't even reach a point where it becomes a concern, as you mentioned. Assuming you're not familiar with much of our other content, you'll find that I try to present the safest way to do things, as some of our viewers might lack experience working on cars, and the fundamentals could be missing. I'm not particularly concerned either; I just prefer to make an effort. 50 minutes I rekon would be a big streach, but possibly if the air is flowing. I can assure you the alloytecs though wouldnt last more than 10 minutes driving before it would reach its thermal shut off point though!
