Beware the Two-Handed Assassin! - Dragon Age Origins

  • In Dragon Age Origins, you had the ability to actually give a two-handed weapon to a rogue!
    This resulted in a brutally overpowered rogue if you built it correctly.
    In this video, I will show you just how overpowered your little two-handed Assassin can get!

    I love not only the fact the made a specific animation for two-handed backstabs, but how tame and gentle it looks compared to the standard ones. It's like you're just giving them a little pat on the back.

    Man, DA should really go back to just letting us play whatever we wanted to and giving us ways to respec, not only our characters, but our party members too. Finally some good f*cking shit.
    2H rogues work because they have easy access to animation cancellers (Below the Belt and Deadly Strikes). Additionally Stealth is perfect survival tool as it resets aggro for basically no cost. I have tried it for different reasons you showcased in video - backstabbing with 2H hammer with assasin DOT allows you to 1 hit enemies and if by some reason they don't die immedietely they will due to bleeding out. Hammer has the best attribute modifier which further maximizes Cunning and while it lowers overall dps it allows you to patch it with extra runes and massive armor. Which you will get probably sooner thanks to unlocking chests/stealing more quicker. Which improves either you or your party.
    I'm currently on Shield Rogues. Hard time deciding between Ranger-Duelists and Ranger-Bard for melee focused gameplay. For that perfect utility frontliner (scouts, deals with traps, tanks, steals in combat)

    I watched a great video by Shadiversity just a few days back where he reimagines the fantasy rogue archetype in a more realistic way. He pointed out that one of the biggest misconceptions of longswords is that people think they are super heavy and difficult to use, which is not true, so that it would actually be a perfect choice for a rogue who uses dexterity and trickery given how most of the longsword techniques rely on feinting and tricking your oponent as opposed to daggers and rapiers. That made me wonder if it could be fun to create a build like that in a game, so imagine my surprise after stumbling upon this video.

Sten and Alistair is there to take the heat off of you(you are not really supposed to get hit) - and in Awakening and beyond, you can spec your Warriors to place non-stop damage reduction on you, which will even nullify the Tainted Blade damage.

  • @Dreez76
    @Dreez76 Před 12 dny +1

    Abit late but.. one problem with putting it all into Cunning is the lack of str will severely hinder the ability to use better 2handers.
    The Cunning modifier only applies on damage, it doesn't work like the Mage ability . Even when putting not a single point into Str
    on a rogue, they simply don't have enough to carry any 2handers - unless i am missing something obvious.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 12 dny +2

      That is not how Cunning works with Lethality+Exploit Weakness+Tainted Blade+Song of Courage.
      You get a direct bonus after the cunning attribute to your damage and your backstab dmg with these skills. With Lethality, your STR becomes meaningless in terms of damage, everything converts into Cunning(although STR still increases your attack).
      It does not worth it at all to invest into STR to pick up a better two-hander, because the damage difference between the Chasind Flatblade(12.10) and the best base dmg two-hander(Starfang 18.7) is negligible. You would invest 24-28+ cunning into an attribute that does nothing for you(str) for that lousy +6.6 dmg? 24-28+ Cunning gives way more damage with these abilities - which is why I can land over 200+ dmg attacks on enemies in Origins and over 500+ dmg attacks on enemies in Awakening.
      So just boost cunning and nothing else. Don't worry about getting a better weapon, the Flatblade is the best in slot option for this build. :)

    Yes I agree, I liked to fully arm a mage with heavy armor and a sword. Maybe not quite as far as a two handed weapon for a rogue but still. It is unfortunate that this cannot be done on DA2 or DAI. While unlikely it would be outstanding if a similar thing would be available in DA4 / DAD.

    It's really cool, but is it better than using cunning and daggers? Is it that the big sword is resulting in a higher hit rate? Doesn't seem right that a level 2 two-hander is outperforming those great daggers you find throughout the adventure. Pretty awesome, though. You must have put a few points in strength to get it up to 20, right? So a few in strength, some in dexterity, and the rest in cunning?

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před rokem +10

      Nope. No points on Str at all. I used Fade Fonts, rings and belts to meet the requirements, and after I placed the sword on, I switched them back. I needed 9 str in total for the sword, because the human noble rogue starts with 11. You get 4 from Fade Fonts. Key of the City(2), Andruil's Blessing(2), Harverst Festival Ring(2). This is 10 already, but I still needed 2 to equip the Battledress of the Provocateur, so I used the Helm of Honleath(2) to reach it.
      I only placed enough dex to get Lethality(I used Fade Fonts here too, but the 4 you get is not enough to reach 23, so I had to invest a bit in it). The rest must be on Cunning.
      Your damage is superior compared to daggers, because the BASE damage of your two-handed sword is 12.10. Even the Balanced Greatsword, the sword you get from Jory which has no str requirement, has 11.00 base damage. Whereas the best dagger's base damage is only 6.40. Since everything is calculated on your BASE damage(crits and backstabs), this is a colossal advantage for the Two-Handed rogue. :)

      Funny thing: the dlc is glitched for some reason and you can't really backstab that thing properly(maybe it has something to do with golems and backstabs). You have to find the "sweet spot" on that thing's back, which is a very narrow area. This definitely makes you lose dps there. But if you have Brogan and you place Paralyze runes in his weapon(give him a dagger so he can attack fast), that will trap the Harvester and you can backstab it easily.
