I like the uncluttered design. I personally wouldn’t mind if it moves in a GT direction and gets more power - as long as the weight penalty is modest. I’m just glad this type of car is still available since it serves a relatively small enthusiast market.
I don't know if it just me but I feel like Toyota is purposing limiting the brz so that it doesn't compete with the supra. Because they could easily add FI, stronger connecting rods or more power.
I really hope they don't increase the weight of this car. The 2020 Mazda MX-5 ND2 has around 20hp less than the outgoing BRZ/86 but still accelerates just as quickly and is killing it on autocross events because it weighs at least 330lbs less, has shorter gearing and has torque from lower RPMs. If Subaru/Toyota make the new car weigh no more than 50lbs than the outgoing car, it won't hamper the performance gain too much, but ideally want the car to be lighter. I wonder if Tetsuya Tada is still incharge of the 86 programme like he was before...I heard he is only focusing on the Supra development.
My perfect sports car would output 300hp, 300ftlb and weigh around 3000lb in a rwd configuration. So litterally a 2.4l brz with a bit of forced induction and proper tuning. Unrealistic to expect that from factory tho.
@@REVlogue Maybe Toyota and Subaru could offer a forced induction version only available in manual so it appeals to a slightly different market than the Supra 2.0's market #SaveTheManual

Agreed. Less reasons to "step up" to a more expensive car that arguably has more margins cuz they didn't develop that car from scratch.

I am not allowed to confirm or deny anything, but it sounds like you know what I know...
I heard the new GR86 is actually 58 lbs lighter than the current model

I had very close to that (minus the torque figures) with a Jackson supercharger kit on my 2013 brz :)

Maybe they can do it as a performance package with a factory supercharger or turbo
