The List, is Dogumentary TV's community generated ranking of the top mastiff dog breeds. From a sampling of over 100 Dogumenatry TV subscribers, I compiled this list. Many of you know that Dogumentary TV is into the big dogs. So I thought what better breed to feature in the pilot episode of THE LIST. Many mastiff breeds were nominated but only ten made your final list. Some notable breeds that didn't make it were the Tosa Inu, Saint Bernard, and Newfoundland.
My English mastiff lived until 4 days before her 13th birthday. She was brindle, 150lbs at her heaviest, 125lbs at her lightest. We lost her to cancer, but I remember our vet said that she lived as long as she did because we loved her so much. I like to believe he was right. It's been almost 10 years and I will always have a place in my heart for her. I love you Dasha ❤
❤
Rip good girl ❤️
Real love ❤️ You will see her on the other side one day my friend
I lost my mouse to due to cancer as well, I woke up one morning and saw like an egg shape size under his eye, within two weeks I had to put them down, I had him for almost 9 years, it’s been two years now and I still have not gotten over it, I am now at the point where I would like to get another one, I have lots of love to go around, I’m just not sure what breed I would like, I don’t think I want to purebred, because it seems like they have so many problems as far as the Purebreed goes, my mastiff was probably 75% mastiff and 25% who knows what.
Fellow English Mastiff lover and owner here. Awesome loving, family guardians and companions!
True story.
Just moved into my house about a month ago. I'm in the back room and my Cane Corso gets up and jogs to the front door and peers out the side window. It's about the time the bus drops off kids across the street so I don't think much of it. Then I hear the growl. I get up and peek out peep hole and it's an ADT salesman. I crack the door and say what's up and he starts his speel and 2 sentences in I say I'm not interested. Of course he's trained to follow up with "why wouldn't you want your house monitored?" I opened the door just a little bit wider and just as I did my boy let out a bark that made the guy almost shit himself. I said "cuz as you can see I already got a 125lb monitoring system!" Nuff said dude was gone. 😆
Ya fucking bitch that was me!!
used to have a 100lb boxer that did that to more than a few annoying salesman.
Which one of these would be great with kids as well Came Carso or Boxer?
@@madebydade305ify I would go boxer cane Corso is a more temperamental breed needing more work to train.
@@phildo87 thanks
I have 2 Corsos. My neighbors agree that someone would have to be out of his mind to attack me, or to break into my house.
I haven't locked my doors yet. I'd love to see someone come in that's not welcome. Corsos are great dogs and very loyal
Corsos are great PPDs and guardians. Personally I need that along with multi purpose applications such as tracking, odor, and apprehension...Presa or Dogo all the way!
One corso is enough
I agree the presence alone should scare the he'll out of most people. But don't think just because they are cane corsos they will actually attack and bite. Most have to be trained in order for that to happen even for corsos.
TheDifferentBeast robber: have a gun
I have been breeding and training Cane Corsos since 2007, my wife was the owner of Marvell Boerboels in South Africa. I would like to say that the life expectancy of each breed is very much based on the dogs diet. Research shows that dogs fed a species appropriate raw diet will live considerably longer than bag fed dogs. We feed our dogs 80% muscle meat, 10% internal organs and 10% bone.
Dr. Billinghirst says 50% bone, but glad to hear others love raw diet!
@@buffdude4281 50% bone is too high. 10-15% bone is ok.
Thank you, Frankie. That information is very useful.
@@freedoo69 according to who? What are your sources? According to a veterinarian surgeon, 50% is the best. Dogs need calcium if you aren’t giving them kibble.
@@buffdude4281 50% bone is rediculas. In America raw feeding is very popular and its not hard or special to find or learn information about it. A lot of feeding dogs raw is simply common sense though, and common sense is all you need to realize 50% bone is to high.
I totally agree on the video. Did a lot of research before chosing a Cane Corso as a family and home protector and it was the best choice I could have made. The nicest dog in the world, especially towards children, but mean as hell if necessary. She got attacked by a pitbull some months ago and shredded him to pieces, nearly killed him. She never starts fights, but now we know how she ends them if forced to. Absolute powerhouse with a heart of gold.
i need your dog !!!!!!!!!
Same I got cane cardio but it's mixed with American Red nosed pitbull
I’m not saying your lying but literally everyone that brags about there dog being tuff always says that some random pitbull ran up on them or there dog and just destroys the pitbull but I’ve seen many pit bulls destroy dogs far outside of their weight class specifically gamebreeds I’ve also seen a few pits get handled but if your story is true then you have a fantastic dog
I'd have to agree with the Cane Corso story. If they think they're family is in danger I feel sorry for any animal that they zero in on. It is frightening to behold indeed! They will protect family to the death if they have to.
We have a caine corso and pressa cannario, lovely dogs, our corso (female) plays with our daughter all the time where as our pressa is more laid back and just sleeps
I'm impressed that he differentiated between the lifespans of working breed lines versus show lines. Completely different genetics. Working lines always favoured health and function.
Boerboel & DogoArgentino are outstanding specimens!
Facts
I've always wanted a dogo but they're illegal in the uk for some reason
@@deeray4637 sadly that "some reason" is usually irresponsible owners.
@@deeray4637 love my dogo he’s 10 months and is a great part of the family
@@marcmayhem0412 actually that “some reason” is because they look like pit bulls. And before you say that’s silly, you can legally own a boerboel or a Kangal but not the much smaller much less dangerous Dogo argentino. They were thrown into the pit ban just because they look somewhat similar.
I love how connected you make your videos feel. Like we're just kicking back chatting. Very good at adding the dogs history, behaviors and present social standing!
Who here thinks that corsos, dogo, boerboels, and rottweilers, are as good as dogs get because those are at the top on my list.
@ Thaddeus Chavez ditto, my favorites as well.
I like all the big powerful bully breeds. They're all awesome I think.
You got to be an Alfa to run those dogs man
yes but it pays of if you do it right
yes they are really amazing dogs
I can't imagine not having a bullmastiff in my home. I just adore mine.
With you there!!! My boy is my soulmate!
Jo Ravlin they are adorable!
Love my boy Alfie too ❤️👍
I've had a handful of dogs. I now have a cane corso. And I'm hooked. Only dog anyone should ever own. Smart. Trainable. Family friendly. Just a great dog.
jesse Anderson absolutely
I agree with you. I have one that weighs 125lb.
Wow! This is one of the only dog videos/ lists that aren’t filled with a bunch of bad information! Great video!
Another great video. My wife and I have owned English Mastiffs, a Bull Mastiff, a Great Dane and a Different de Bordeaux. They were all fabulous dogs. Their short life spans are the only downside. Thanks for the video.
I have 2 english mastiff, male weighs usually between 215 and 220, the female 169. They are now 13 years old. How long can I hope to keep them. They are the best dogs I have ever had. The male is the best guard dog I have ever had. He is so aggressive at the house, but out and about, a big baby. Just his size and deep bark/growl is scary, plus he could drown one to death with his druel.
You mean Dogue de Bordeaux
I am impressed by the peoples choice boerboel being among top 2 is great 👍
I have had boerboels while living in South Africa and love the breed.
@@shadowflame2744 Let's hope the breed doesnt get messed up as it's now being exported smh
boerboel is kak honde wie ever dai hond uit geteel het is n poes
Alvin Daniels jij bent kak! Aso boerboel is geweldig!
L B there are some “breeders” that are messing with them already to obtain more different colors. Really sad
My corso and i were chasing coyotes down the the street i tripped and fell looking like i was sliding into 2nd base he stopped and came back to check on me
Love that Cane Corso I have a male that will be 6 months old and he’s already 90 lbs. very smart and well mannered.
I really like your videos man, you always post top quality videos. Keep it up👍🏽
Love all your videos and i really wait for new ones....Have watched all videos atleast three times....as soon as i got update about new video i got excited like i got new iphone.....I dont skip the advertisement as it helps you so i watch ads too...
1. Cane Corso
2. Boerboel
3. Central Asian Ovcharka
4.Presa Canario
5. Dogo Argentino
That's my top five right there. Rottweilers are an honorable mention.
Great list I agree with you .
How do you all feel about bandogs?
Dala&Chase Cullen I would like a boerboel but I’m not sure about the breeds in the USA that doesn’t cost a arm and leg I understand you get what you pay for but 5k is ridiculous
Boeboel
Dogo
Canecorso
Presa
Japanese mastiff
Do you actually own or know anything about these breed?
Love my Cane Corso. I was skeptical about spending so much on a dog, especially since so many need adopting, but I’m so glad I did. Greatest breed even. My wife feels totally safe if she is home by herself. Just a smart, loyal, and gentle breed. My female is 120lb beast.
Question how much did you pay i just got one and just wondering ???? Wanna get a female but in my area in NY they seem 1 be rare
Why you guys buy dogs?? Dogs aren't toys to buy them. They are life's. You can get a dog with out paying
@@georgekarakas9313 What by stealing them? Even adopting a child costs money. I don't know where you are but in Australia even adopting a dog from a rescue can range from $250-800 or more for a small breed.
I have 2 Corsos , they both came from shelters, the best dogs I've ever had the pleasure to share my life with, absolute babies. A single bag of kibble costs more than the adoption fee for each one
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally, someone who has done all the actual research on the breeds of dogs they are talking about. You rock. You let everyone know what breed is your favorite, but you don't minimalize those what others are interested in. Awesome job.
And you are big on actual working type. Good on you.
BOERBOEL MY FAVOURITE.
What a wonderful, informative video. Thank you!
i had an English mastiff. He was only 9 when I lost him, my heart still hurts.
These life expectancies 5-7 oh my lord, that is too short. 😢
Bigger they are
Shorter their lyf
Bhaskar Bora
Not true for a Turkish Kangal
Maybe the American Mastiffs.... they are longer lived up to 12 years. They are less bulky and droopy and have tighter eyes, skin, and mouths; longer snouts, easier breathing, Less open mouth breathing (fewer farts) less drooling and mess after eating & drinking because of the tighter lips and they are less jowly.
They are bred with a small percent of Anatolian shepherd dog for longer life and fewer health problems. They are mostly like the English Mastiff but with a little more of a sharp edge. Their protectiveness is up a notch but they are not aggressive; they are very sociable, nice to everyone - just a little more wary. A little slower to sidle up or cuddle with someone new but they're not going to lurch out and bite somebody.
I'm sorry for your loss ❤ my English mastiff was the runt of the pack so she lived til 4 days before her 13th birthday. She is still loved so much by our entire family. It's been almost 10 years.
At least the dog lived til 9. How would you like to lose dogs at 3 years old? Do not get a Great Dane, unless you want to replace a dog every 2 to 3 years.
Glad to see the bullmastiff in the top 5. Would also love to see a video of them in work! Got my first bm years ago and I will never be without one in my life. The two I have now are stellar home guardians. Their instincts kicked in at around 8 months. Love em to pieces!
Awesome video, awesome list, love your videos man!! Great job !!

Oof
Alex EA ooohh got em
That's mean.
I had a corso who recently passed and I will probably only have corsos for the rest of my life. Mine was a bit larger than usual. He blew up to 140lbs, then 150 in his older age. He was an amazing boy. Very impressive to look at too.
I love the videos...I have watched them all and have no complaints. You are an awesome producer and director. I have become so much more fond of dogs with the knowledge from your videos. Keep Producing and Directing! Thank you so much!!!
Man really a very nice video. Totally loved it. Thanks for all of your informational videos.
Ditto, this was really well done! GREAT VIDEO
Brother you always put out informative & excellent content! Thank you for your work!
I’ve got to say owning a Cane Corso is a great responsibility and I look forward to working with him daily. Love the channel keep the content coming!!!
How is he doing?
Judging by ur pp …. You got one !! Great job buddy
My New favourite Mastiff is Cane Corso, if anyone wants to learn more about these beautiful animals, there is a wonderful Breeder, in Texas, the channel is Senza Tempo Cane Corsa, this lady knows her stuff, we breed British Bull Mastiffs, with no channel, yet, my Wife & I have been breeding for 41yrs. Look up Rachel in Senza Tempa Cane Corso, we are very excited with her channel, we are in Scotland!🏴🙏
Jay & Rana Myles
Rana&Cora the BBD mwah I love watching her channel. She is very knowledgeable about Cane Corsos and got me very interested in the breed!
Hiya Benny! My husbands breed is Cane Corsa, mine is The German shepherd, The Belgium & the husky!! I keep my Shepards, with whilst at work. I am working in Scotland and with Wolves specifically timberwolves I have 29 wolves the size of Manhattan and I actually have 40 German Shepherds my my shepherd's are trained to protect the Wolves but also to protect me me or any other part Grainger or conservationist like I am I also have a very large pack of a RUSSIAN wolf there are 13 of this pack however the alpha female is heavily pregnant my husband this month is looking after the Russian!
Blessed Be 🙏
Rana&Cora the BBD mwah Woah, that’s awesome. My favorite breed is the German Shepherd as well. I love them. Best breed ever!
I thought Senza was located in CA? What part of Texas are they in?
Rana&Cora the BBD mwah Glad to see another Scot enjoying STCC,I’ve learned so much from Rachel and she doesn’t hold back!!! No nonsense,no twaddle and I love her daily broadcasts featuring her huge pack, that she has total control of.The way she reads the dogs behaviour, interaction is simply brilliant.I recommend her site 100%♥️🏴
Great list! I have a 9 year old Corso and she is so amazing. Corsos are so unique and definitely not for an inexperienced dog owner. I got her from a breeder in Italy and she was a guard dog from the day I got her that's her instincts are so strong with no guard dog training . They're also very good at sensing,or actually smelling, people's emotions, like adrenaline, so if you're tense or nervous about something your corso will be extra alert. Not a good thing if you are a person with anxiety or then gets an easy or startled easily and there's your dog will go into protection mode. Also Corso's are the last of the coursing Mastiffs. Bass and green and used to be a sport to let them run down small or large animals and kill them. She's great with my two cats they sleep together and when I brought the new puppy home she was awesome. But she would literally kill another animal given the chance if it came near me or my house. I'm not sure if that is something that dogs over here I still have in them or not but I see you're not very dog friendly and has strong pray Drive .I also a first-time bullmastiff owner. He is just over a year old now and I couldn't be happier with my decision to get a bull mastiff
Every list i watch cane corso is #1, I am so proud of being owner to one of them. My cane corso is 4 months old and he has learned so much stuff. He growls at everyone who gets close to my gate and stops on my command. Such a smart and majestic animal.
Love your channel! Great work!
Yyeesss.... i love my corso! Shes my best buddy and snuggle bug. Great video!
This is my favorite youtube channel. Thank you for all your information. What breed of dog to you have
My dog is a Pit Bull mix.
Cane corso
This video is amazing! Thank you!
Great video. I have been involved with mastiff breeds for more than 30 years and have had corsos since the early 90’s. I have had several of the breeds listed yet find the cane corso perfect for me. This list is very sensible and the info accurate. Well done.
Great video
Great list, The Coeso is a breed i just got into after looking into the breed for 10 Years. Would you consider doing a list of the largest LGD or former dog fighting breeds from the East, middle East, I'd love to leard more about the bully kutta, Gu; Dong, Alabai, Kangals etc. Keep up the great work Z
Great stuff Zeek!
Great video man , you get em 👏
I got a Presa Canario on my 11th birthday. She was an amazing dog and one heck of a bed hog! She was sweet and gentle but we played very rough. The harder I played with her the harder she’d go. Truly an amazing companion. She ended up getting diabetes and passing at 10 years old.
She left a big hole in my heart when she passed and I’ve since filled it with two Great Danes... ;)
Presa Canarios?what? And you're proud (pfft)

@DogumentaryTV
Excellent video. Definitely thumbs'd it up and Sub'd way back when. Mad respect for all your hard work and efforts. The list of breeds is on point. Just wondering if anybody else has noticed breeders are starting to shorten the muzzle on so many different breeds. Assuming they are after the square appearance. Watching this video allows you to notice that. Breeds like Dogue de Bordeaux and the Bullmastiff have almost evolved into super sized pugs / Frenchie.. The Corso is also being messed with. I have two of them with the normal length muzzle and they don't have the crease between the eye and the muzzle. I've noticed many on the street with droopy eye syndrome because of the shortened muzzle.
What are your thoughts Big Z..
Perhaps a good video topic.. "How Breeds Have Evolved"
Great documentary on Mastiffs! Thanks!
I can not thank you enough for making this video... Much love and respect from Vancouver, British Columbia...
Glad the Boerboel was #2. I love my Boerboel little Ann . Very intelligent and easy to train if you start young. As with most large breeds early socialization is key. ♡♡♡
That was a awesome list and some great info on each breed..... Luv what you do with your channel bro 💯💯💯🍻👊😎
Love you Zeke!! Keep putting out your videos.
Thank you for all of your hard work.
I love all of your content.
I have a came corso and he's only a year and 4 months I don train him to be a gard dog but he has saved me from almost getting stabbed at night with my pit and jack Russel he's amazing
Yuridia lopez that’s their natural instincts
Exactly why they are #1 on this list 💯💪
the jack russel is thew one who did the saving , i promise you that , he set the other 2 dogs off and they went to work.
Any of these dogs to not need to be encouraged to be protective. It is a natural instinct. Trying to make them more protective is a liability
I love the corso. I have Ambullneo Mastiff. Very smart and strong
The Boerboel made it to number 2! Whoop whoop! ✊ They are incredible, hardy dogs. Love mine

Found new appreciation for the Carne Corso at a dog show. Uncropped ears, intense but friendly. Made me really consider the breed but not sure how they would do with our Russell Terrier! Great list Zeke!

That was awesome great job man 🤠
Great video! It really helps me determine which mastiff breed will work for me. I'm not the most experienced trainer but I absolutely have to get a mastiff. So this helps me alot
Good.luck lol. They need tons of training
Get a Cane Corso or a rottweiler they are the best and most easily trained mastiff.
@@nikgaspar9741 thanks for the advice. The cane corso is just about my favorite dog! But I thought they were a one of the toughest to train?
Pleaaasse do your research on the breeder!! The breeder and genetics of a dog makes ALL the difference as many popular breeds have mental disorders and no amount of training can fix that. Also, find a group of owners in your area that meet up regularly. Its cheap training and information on food allergies, certain behavior and health issues. Make sure the breeder is reputable and works/shows the dogs for confirmation to prove that the lines are healthy and sound in body and mind.
Oh, let me clarify, many popular breeds have been over-bred for a quick buck and certain "backyard" or unqualified breeders don't know how to, or don't have the proper resources, or don't care to filter out certain genetic defaults like epilepsy, bi-polar, and other things. just be careful!!
Best dog videos!
Thank you so much for this video it was great 🙂💜
thank you i was trying to find a mastif and you nailed it
We lost our Rottweiler to cancer at 11, just this September. He was an amazing boy. We are a week and a half from bringing home an English Mastiff puppy. It will be interesting to see how the breed compares to the Rottie.
Because lack of exercise
Finally a video that consider rottweiler is belong to mastiff breed cuz they are. Rottweiler is also related to molos
Louis Vírtudazo I never knew they were until this video! Very interesting
They’ve always been a mastiff, and their one of the oldest.
mastiff breeds and moloss breeds are pretty same group
The Rottweiler is one of the oldest of herding breeds.[8] With a history possibly dating back to the Roman Empire,[9] the Rottweiler may be a descendant of ancient Roman drover dogs; a mastiff-type dog that was a dependable, rugged dog with great intelligence and guarding instincts. During their quest to conquer Europe, the Roman legions traveled in large numbers across the continent.
Dude they have the original are squared body they are molocers

I am a dog sitter/ boarder and my first dog I have ever cared for when I started doing it more seriously was a Cane Corso. She was such a sweet goofy girl. She did have a trust issue with my brother but once she knew she could trust him, she was such a love bug!
I think they are good family dogs but not good if you want another dog. Also, not for a week person. Luckily I am a very strong woman lol

Great list...Thanks
Love my Presa!!! So sweet with everyone, but definitely an amazing guardian. Can’t step on the property without going through him! 😂
I have a 3 yr old Boerboel/Dogo/Kangal/Dane hybrid (over 60% Boerboel) male that stands about 30 in at the shoulder and weighs in around 150. Moves like a cat and covers ground faster than a Doberman. Best guard dog ive ever had. We had a man walking too close to our daughters bedroom window late at night about 2 months ago and he didn't bark or growl, just hit him full force and even though he only had him for less than 5 seconds had his arm and side needing stitches. 1 in a thousand dogs have the backbone to take down a man (especially 6 ft or taller and over 200 pounds) but only 1 in 10,000 would do it without training. These dogs arent jokes. They are serious animals and should be taken seriously. On the other side of the coin though, he loves my family, our cats, our 2 little dogs, and has to sleep with his head on my chest. Great dogs!
BOO NO MUTS Please......
Great review. I appreciate your objectivity and fact-based assessment.

I've always found it odd that some people don't consider the Rottweiler to be a Mastiff

Wouldn't it be molosser, not necessarily mastiff?
dodo19923 yes he has plenty of shepherd heritage as well
I looked into rottweiler before getting my mastino, he was a chance pick up, and i was very lucky to know the right people at the right time. My friend here has an old style rottweiler, and it's a beast of a dog :)
I think that the Corso and Presa can be considered mastiff. Moreso than the Rott. יכין ינקלביץ

Boerboel number 3 for me, dogo argentinos and tosa inus span the crown for me
@@topacybits3576 Cant argue with that, they're all good dogs at what they do. Big athletic powerful breeds!!! IMO of the three Boerboel is a better family dog and thats why I put it at the top.
