My mom had one which wasn't good for her but great for us kids. She was an alcoholic and would get abusive but not after Fred came into the picture. He wouldn't let her near us if she was on a binge. That sweet boy saved us.
Wow! Good doggy..

11 months old!? He already looks like he is a wise old fellow ready to write his memoirs 😆
What a fabulous sentence 😂
What!? I can't believe he's only 11 months old. That means he's still a puppy and has more growing to do! What a giant baby 😂
not much. remember dogs can breed at one year old. the seven human years for every dog year is not accurate.
Brutus will still probably have a decent amount of filling out to do. He looks like he’s in the teenager phase. And he’s absolutely precious. I want to snuggle that big fat noggin.
He's not gonna be fully grown until about 3 lol.
Teddy from Life with Malamutes was really big at just 7 months old.
for big dogs they'll be at about max height by this point, they just have more filling out to do for minimum another year
boy is only going to get heavier and stronger from here
I bought the Equigroomer after your recommendations for our calico who HATES being brushed. At first, I didn't like it because I thought it wasn't doing anything...but I kept at it and when I saw SHEETS of fur coming off of her and then realized she was still just standing there, letting me brush her, I was HOOKED. It's fantastic and obviously full of dark magic.
Perhaps you've convinced me to try one for my cranky Calico!
she does look cute tho! maybe it's good magic, sparkle magic!🎉😂
I've been thinking about getting one for my gsd mix. She's a heavy shedder but really doesn't like our defurminator.

The good definitely die young, we lost him at just 7 to lung cancer. Cannot bring myself to get another dog after him, he was the best!

I would sell you a rottie at well under market value - you pay trans port costs and I will let my $600 rotties go for $200.
Give me a contract to breed the rottie and to give me half of the 1st litter and the re-homing fee goes down to near zero.
I couldn't go 2 weeks before adopting another mastiff. I had my bullmastiff for 9 years, and I can't imagine life without a big mass of wrinkles taking up the sofa. It's something a just make a house a home

It sucks because 99% of health problems would end if breeders stopped using closed studbooks, which have been abandoned by breeders of every other domestic animal

A bout of encouragement for any bordeaux fans, we recently lost a bordeaux but we got her to 10, and another bordeaux we had stuck around till she was 8. Getting this breed to old age is making sure you look after them properly, both of ours were kept lean and got regular walks and exercise. Keeping dogs (especially large ones!) at a healthy weight is so so vital as it puts less strain on everything (e.g. joints, heart, breathing etc.) :)
Did you do a raw diet as well? We’re thinking of doing that with our cane corso because it worked wonders for other dogs growing up

A neighbour used to have 2 of these beasts.. They were scared of our little Staffordshire terrier. They look intimidating. They are the exact opposite. They can and will drag your tired body across a muddy field whenever they want. 😂
i tend to notice that the smaller an older the dog are usually more domineering tenacious an headstrong.. they don’t put up with no mess doesn’t matter their height an size they are fearless
i knew a pitbull terrier mix that bossed around 2 huge malamutes all the time. he was gentle but firm an stern disciplinary
@@jayclearmen411 until some of those pesky smaller doggies meet a big one who would not put up with their antics...Within the family "pack" everything goes but outside of it such behavior should be curbed, seen my share of ugly scenes and one truly horrible{fatality} when those little ones start acting out.
@@jayclearmen411 I wish that was the case for my dogs lmao I have a senior (8yrs) chihuahua and a currently 11 month old Pitbull mix (prolly staffy and bully mixed in) and my Pitbull May back away when my chihuahua bites her cheek as correction, but literally will nibble her ear and push her with her fat paw the second she lets go of her cheek. I know. I was fortunate to have one for 7 years. Sadly, cancer struck her leg and spine. I refused to put her through the torture of cancer therapy so had to put her down. Saddest day in my life. But happiest 7 years of my life.
My mom and stepdad own two french mastiffs. When I last visited, I wanted the cats to be able to come into my room while I slept, but not the dogs, because they drool a LOT. Because the closet wall jutted out in front of the door, I was able to put a suitcase between the door and the wall, making it so that the door only opened enough for the cats.
When I woke up, the dogs had shoved their way through and broken the door.
Big, dumb, lovable muscle.
they probably thought they were helping mom ""hey, look a box is keeping us out, gotta help Mom with this." "There, fixed."
They love you too much to be kept away from you. 😊
As I've written previously, my brother and SIL in Chippawa have a Dogue du Bordeaux/French Mastiff. She is now seven and very sweet. About two years ago she quickly put on about 20lbs on her 110lb frame and she began to get flaky, crusty skin on her back. The vet diagnosed her with hypothyroidism and once she was properly medicated the skin issue resolved on its own. Apparently, dogs need like 6x the dose a human needs in order to treat the condition. She is calm and very much an easy-going and gentle giant.
A friend of mine absolutely loves this breed. They had 4 at once a few years ago. Their oldest passed at 14 years old, so I'd say she did well considering their life expectancy. She was such a sweetie, but only for people she liked. Thankfully I was one of them, and got to snuggle with her a lot when camping with my friends. :)
I've never seen a dog with such an expressive face before! It's as if van Gogh had painted him. Despite his ferocious face, he was gentle as a lamb and sweet as a dove.
Depends on whats going on.
A friend lived with me for several years with Oz. He was a sweet huge fellow. And as you said they are prone to bone issues. He and his partner spent close to 15,000 $ on surgeries to a back hip. Oz was a sweet baby boy.
After the movie Rocky in 19979 they became more popular in the U.S. and were bred more indiscriminately by some greedy, ignorant people. I think some health issues got worse because of that.

Growing up, I lived with and absolutely fell in love with a french mastiff that belonged to my moms boyfriend at the time. Brutus looks almost identical to Martín and made me miss him very much. The sweetest, heaviest babies, basically just walking pillows. He was often profiled as an aggressive dog because of his size and underbite, but he wouldn’t hurt a fly😭. I also did not realize how short their life expectancies were in general. We lost Martín at a very young age and it absolutely shattered me because he wasn’t even 7. Thank you for being honest in your videos about all aspects of each breed. I hope more people can see mastiffs for the love monsters they are❤️
Love monsters 😆
Such a handsome boy! I love mastiffs! A friend from many years ago had a beautiful English mastiff named Moose and that dog was the most laid back gentle giant I've ever met. The only danger was his baseball bat sized tail which often knocked stuff off the table, and his weight which he would use to lean on you, knocking you down so that he could then lovingly slobber in your face. :) I loved that dog!
Great name! Moose. Absolutely perfect.
My oldest brother & family had a beautiful Bernard, mastiff, collie mix named Bullitt years ago. If someone was stupid enough to enter their backyard without a family member with them, that big guy just flattened them and sat on them. It happened to me, while playing hide & seek with my nephews. But my sister-in-law had to call 911 about a trespasser once, turned out to be a burglar the cops had been after for weeks. Bullitt just laid on the guy, he couldn't move to try to hurt the dog.
Me too. I grew up with bullmastiffs and they are some of the sweetest dogs in the world. They have a real soft spot for kids.
The love we have with our pets is pure.
@@antiquegirl6505 Yes, actually were bred to do just that, and not just mangle someone right away. Bullmastiffs were bred to knock a person off a horse and then hold. Amazing ! Of course them wanting to be a lap dog could hold you down as well ! lol

Thumbs up, as always! In Madeline Kahn voice "What a nice guy!" Brutus is a sweetie, at only 11 months. It’s the head, honestly. Brutus looks much better than the other French Mastiffs I’ve seen. They have almost flat faces. My friend rescued one and she had to hook it up to machines just to get it to breathe. Just another example of a loving breed ruined by the flat face “trend.”
The boarding facility where my family kept our horses had two bull Mastiffs. In the day time during open hours they laid around in the tack room. They were friendly and never bothered anyone. However, after closing hours, these dogs were anything but friendly, woe to the dummy who had inspirations of breaking in and stealing anything, from the tack room or anywhere around the stable areas and horses. Years later my aunt rehomed a female bull Mastiff. He name was Zelda and she was Such a good, sweet girl. Everybody loved her. However, if someone knocked on the door that she didn't know, she was all business, you had to let her know that they were OK. She understood that immediately, she was very intelligent and very perceptive. And she never forgot anyone she met, no matter for how short a time. On the other hand, anyone we didn't know that came around, would have been seriously injured, if not killed, had they come in to the yard or house. These dogs are not pushovers in any sense of the word. My aunt had been informed that this breed only has a life expectancy of five years or so. When Zelda turned five, we were all on high alert, but we had hoped that with exceptional love and care, she would live a few more years. When Zelda turned six, we really had high hopes for her, and she never showed any signs or symptoms of illness. My mother received a phone call at 3:00 am one morning, it was my aunt calling from an emergency veterinary hospital, Zelda seemed to be in abdominal distress, and my Aunt wasted no time rushing her to a vet. Zelda died that morning, she was 6 1/2 years old. The vet said that there wasnt anything that could have been done for her, she had reached the end of her natural lifespan. I had always wanted a Mastiff, until that day, six and a half years isn't even close to long enough for a dog to live, for me. I have always wondered why the people involved with the big dog breeds with short life spans like this don't try to do something, maybe out cross to other breeds, to try to improve their lifespan.
But nice puppy, and as usual, a very good grooming job by you.
They did exactly that with the South African Mastiff, aka Boerboel, which is why they live roughly 2x as long as the other Molosser breeds. Beautiful dogs, big responsibility though.

My mom is currently fostering a mastiff who she thinks is about 7yrs old. I'm not sure what specific breed of mastiff she is though, but she's MASSIVE! In comparison, she also has a pit mix that she adopted out right whom gets dwarfed by the mastiff. I've also found that the mastiff is more gentle when interacting with me (I use a wheelchair) than the pit mix is! 😂 I would love it if she kept the mastiff just as she did with the pit mix who was also a foster dog, but the mastiff is a lot for her to handle & the pit mix is also a tripod & my mom's afraid of the mastiff accidentally hurting the pit mix. Even though she's gentle with me, I still feel like she would be more than I could handle on my own. Hoping she finds her forever home soon!

Mike Lange, the great Pittsburgh Penguins play-by-play guy was well known for his catch phrases. One of my favorites, after a great save or catch, was, "He's smiling like a butcher's dog." Nice to put a breed with the saying!
A fellow Penguins fan! ML was one of a kind. It was devastating when the local station changed hands and told him to stop his unique style of calling games... he told them to pack sand and spent the rest of his career on radio. The station kept changing hands and the play by play team they have now is perhaps the most boring I've ever heard in any sport. Unfortunately that seems to be the trend - generic and stereotypical broadcast school voices.

the lady I got my bullmastiff from had a cocker spaniel and if she doted on the cocker, the bullmastiff would go over and put it's whole head in his mouth and lead it away. What are you going to do, say no?? lol. It was gentle and the dogs got a long well.
He was such a good boy! I can't believe he's still a puppy. Those paws are huge!
I had to give a bath while dog-sitting my friends Dogue de Bordeaux. It felt impossible trying to get her in the tub-but they are sweethearts and eventually it was accomplished! But it’s a great workout 😂
Djk34💘💝😘😘🥰 are you single how old you are
Brutus was very big, but cute, calm and lovable. I was thinking he woukdn'tlike his nails cut. He and you did fine! Awesome dog.
This bordeaux had a really nice looking healthy muzzle! They usually have a shorter muzzle with noticible undershot. It is nice that they breed for healthier traits. could be a mix
Not as wrinkly as some, he has a beautiful face.
He definitely deserved the sweet petals cologne. ❤️
very French !
My mothers mechanic has an English Mastiff. He is HUGE! Super kind. Greets all visitors. He let's you know he's watching though if he thinks you arent where you are supposed to be. He is a sweetheart.
he’s clearly baby. look at that face 🥺
Aww what a big softie 💛 He loved having his facial and head massage 🥰
You are an awesome and caring groomer! Talented, thoughtful and gentle gal.
that really transfers over to the dogs, mostly. Except Huskies of course. lol
@@KindCountsDeb3773 So true so true you’re amazing!
Had a friend and his wife who had a pair. They were so big they had to ride in the bed of the truck when both of them went to the vet at the same time. They were really pair bonded and treated the grandchildren like a herd of cows the were responsible for. Wonderful dogs for families if the family knows how to socialize. We had a Rottweiler at the same time and I gave them profs for living with the size of those two dogs as well as the drool. The wore heavy duty bibs when they were at home.
What a good lad he was ❤
I used to have one of these breeds growing up. his name was James. he was the softest teddy bear dog and every one was scared of him because of his deep loud bark. my best friend
I thought to myself, he's wonderful, I'll get myself one like him because he is so sweet and gentle. Then you explain they require a strong handler. Tang, I'm too old and don't want to get dragged across my yard. LOL What a lovely brute.
My bullmastiff didn't know he could dominate me and basically haul me around. Whew. Wonderful breed. I'd like to get a big dog, but I'm 70 now and it would be impractical. But they don't need a lot of exercise, so that's good. I have teeny dogs now, a good choice for my lifestyle - and they THINK their big. lol
So cute!! I love how you had to go in and give him a kiss 😍 Sweet big boy
I lost my Odin to bone cancer at 8. It got him in the shoulder, so no amputation to try and get ahead of it. Far too young for me. He was the best dog I’ve ever had. Such a sweet boy.
You’re right
How’s your day going today my friend?
Brutus while being dried; "Thanks, I hate it."
What a lovable meathead!
hahahahahah hate it. lol
This fella is chilled to the max. I envy his calmness.
Son regard plein de douceur ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ un merveilleux grand garçon ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
If there was a way to make a living hugging dogs, i would work 18 hours a day....what a pal!
