  • From the Film Australia Collection. Made by The National Film Board 1947. Directed by Eric Thompson. Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, is very unlike Ipswich, England, after which it was named. The film was made at the suggestion of Ipswich, England, to show enquiring people something of a typical Australian country centre.

Wow what a place, far removed from todays Ipswich. None of the industry left now just mostly Centerlink Bogans getting up to no good.
A lot of the houses you see are still there and just as beautiful as they always were.

It would be nice to get in a car and drive back to this Ipswich. Lauriston is still there on Robertson Rd - just. The young lady walking out the gate at 4:40 would be in her 90's. Was she a Hancock?

Oh how times have changed. Not just for ipswich but right across the country. Almost all of our industry is gone and society went downhill long ago.

A great sketch of a completely vanished Australia. Sulkies delivering milk from churns. Children with no shoes at school. Men mining. Women weaving. Girls learning how to cook for their later families. Tea from the billy with supper on the riverbank ! Fascinating.

Men working hard to bring the money home and women working hard to please her man. Life was so much simpler. These short films should be shown at primary school.

I think you mean Women working hard to raise a successful, happy family. Must have been great to be able to sustain a whole family on one wage. That is the biggest loss of all.

😂 they didn't show domestic violence and alcohol abuse ect. No they weren't so simple. ❤. Glad I have an option to leave if I want. Not have sex if I don't want too.

I love the clothing men wore back in the day. Unless one is out in the outback, I would think that most men would wear slacks and suit and wearing a hat. Nicely dressed.

Smoking and naked flames underground. Just as well the Ipswich pits were not very gassy.
