What happens in a world where everything is “racist”? | Brendan O’Neill

  • Brendan O’Neill spoke to an audience of over 200 people on political correctness and cancel culture. It’s hard to take ideas seriously in a world where everything is considered racist.
O’Neill has become a leading voice in the battle for free speech - from the assault on free expression to the erosion of civil liberties, he confronts the forces that seek to regulate thought. Brendan warns us about the stripping away the values and virtues that once defined us as a culture and a society.
He examines the two radical movements that have become popular among young people: the push for “decolonisation” and climate change catastrophising. These movements leave young people in a permanent limbo of dread, stuck between hatred of the past and fear of the future.

Well, I'm a scientist, and by that, I mean real, measurable science like Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and there is a concept called Equilibrium. The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as "a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced". This concept is a general rule for how reality works throughout the universe. It also applies to things like economics, supply and demand etc. A good example is in Biology where biological organisms will eat all of the available food until a balance is reached between the population size and need and available food. So, assuming no external artificial influence is applied to the system, any system, balance will naturally occur.
When apex predators are killed off by an external, artificial mechanism (by humans usually) for instance, the entire food chain can break down. Predator 2 overpopulates, eats all of Predator 3, which causes Predator 4 to overpopulate and so on, and the entire system breaks down.
So what you ask, that's science, what's it got to do with "Woke"? Well, I think most people in the modern advanced world have a decent sense of right and wrong, and fair play. Over many years our systems have artificial systems in place to actively discriminate against certain groups, but in the past 30-40 years those practices have been removed to avoid discrimination and allow the market to determine who gets a job based on merit. Systems are in place to call out and stop discrimination. One of the fundamental differences between Left and Right politics is that the Left believes in artificial systems, like taxes to control how markets work, whilst the Right believes in a free market that will find it's own balance, based on supply and demand, similar to the biological example.
I think "Wokeism" (man I'm tired of the Woke word) is fundamentally dangerous on 2 levels. Firstly, it's perpetuated by people who see inequity everywhere based on personal bias rather than facts and logic, and secondly, based on their incorrect assumptions they want to artificially control the market to make it the way they want. So, what's wrong with that you ask? Well, the problem is, systems DON'T WORK that way, systems will always try to achieve equilibrium, and these artificial mechanisms are stopping it, so the system will ALWAYS be under pressure, causing chaos.

My grangmother loved Rudyard Kipling. By the 1960s nobody assigned his work in school. But now, putting him within the context of his time, it's "acceptable" to read him again. She used to quote his poems to us. "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you/ If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you but make allowances for their doubting too/ If you can waite and not be tired by waiting/ or being lied to don't deal in lies...". It's a long poem. A good poem. Not Chaucer, Shakespeare or Milton. Seems like those are worth a look too. What was "bowdlerizing". Didn't Bowdler try to clean up Shakespeare? Fascinating subject. By the way. The word "woke" is a totally toxic word.

@jordanwhisson5407 er, hello, Britain started slavery? are you joking, or just totally lacking in education. Slavery has been practised throughout human history, and all round the world. In fact, it was almost the natural state of large numbers of the human race. Egyptians, Persians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Vikings, Chinese, Saxons, Moghols, Native Americans, Ottomans, and Africans, ( where it was common long before the Europeans arrived, and is still to be seen in parts to this day),as well as Britain , all took, used and or sold slaves. But alone, out of all the Empires which, again, have existed In all parts of the world and at various points in time, the British Empire sought to put an end to it. And not only in the territory which was under British control, but also, through the might of the Royal Navy, spend blood and treasure in order to see it abolished around the globe. Often in the face of fierce opposition. Learn some facts before posting such ill informed rubbish. Oh, and Britain did not gain its wealth from slavery, another untruth. Britain, as the first industrialised nation, literally the creator of the modern world, grew rich through the ingenuity and sheer hard work of its people. I might add, the richest man in history was one Mansa Musa, who kept enormous numbers of slaves. And guess what, he was an African.

Are you saying that wars and invasions are a brand new thing on our planet? I say not. What IS new is the lies being told about how the Ukraine is faultless. It’s also new how many billions the Ukraine is sucking out of the pockets of normal working mothers and working fathers in the West. So much so, that Zelensky, who started out poor when the CIA overthrew the prior elected govt, so he could follow the CIA’s instructions, is now one of the wealthiest people on planet earth.

Stop parroting - ask yourself what other military in the WORLD warns citizens, multiple times, and why you believe facts and figures coming from "Health Authority (aka Hamas)" as credible? As a mathematician I can say that wokeness has not engulfed the trade in idiocy yet, and probably will not, since mathematicians are very intelligent and do not care about the race or color of their finest. If some of the important ones were to be labeled racist, and their works were to be banned, math will simply stop working. A search of the internet do show reports of Indigenous/black female mathematicians who feel treated differently or mocked because of their origin, but that must surely be a consequence of personality disorders or similar mental conditions, that lures them to wrongly conclude that they are pursued. I can asure everyone, that mathematicians do NOT care about race/origin/gender since it would be downright stupid. Disrupting ones self of taking advantage of new gained territory. And mathematicians are NOT stupid.

Then when the woman asked if he thought maybe there is a more comprehensive theme to the world events since 9 one one. He disregarded it out of hand. Then it became more intriguing to me. He is either truly myopic and shallow thinking or he is intentionally feigning interest in the west and all it has built just to win our hearts and minds so he can then redirect our observations of these other issues and the whole cohesive nature of the continually ramped up insanity.

The younger gens are fighting for everyone’s equality and don’t want to leave anyone behind, the aim is equal human rights and to build a more sustainable world for the future. Just because you may find the new language annoying or inconvenient for you, maybe have a thought of what is behind these words and allow space for society to change, grow and evolve.

Western countries exported most of their productive industries to cheaper labour countries. Letting other people make the effort and be productive.
Western countries turned to non productive 'wealth' creation by investing in and inflating house prices.
If the British voting citizens majority voted for less immigration in the last few elections, then the democracy is fake.
Indigenous Europeans are swapping their ancestral homelands for imported goods upon which they are dependant.
Caucasians want to make money non productively ie property investing, shares, gold and silver, digital currencies.
So immigrants are economically crucial to tenant all the investment properties and pay rent by milking the cows.
    Production vs consumption.
Woke, Islam, trans, blaming politicians etc is all a distraction from this reality IMO.
What do European people produce in exchange for all the imports they consume?
