Well today was the day I finally tried your bacon cooking strategy. I have a big Christmas brunch for my family every year and cooking up pounds of bacon on Christmas morning is such a tedious messy job. I cooked several pounds of bacon using your method and it worked great! Thanks so much!

My mother and her mother always saved bacon grease. I am 70 so I am going back years. My Mom put hers in small mason jars and kept in in the fridge. She fried chicken, hamburger, steak, pork chops in bacon grease, not Crisco or vegetable oil.

I'm 72 & raised on a farm. We used warm bacon grease for wilted lettuce with vinegar and sugar. What a treat!!!!

  • @silentrunner3067

If you leave the salt in, the grease will eventually get moldy. It is easy to wash and get pure white lard to use in places you do not want bacon flavor(baked goods, pie crust, ect.). Use a wide mouth straight sided glass jar. Add 1/3 liquid grease, 1/3 hot water to the jar and stir well, then refrigerate till the grease is solid. Drain the water, remove the lard, scrape any grayish or other surface contamination off of the solid lard. Replace lard in the jar and melt to liquid by placing in a shallow pan of hot water. Repeat the above process as many times as needed until the lard no longer tastes salty(3 times is usually enough). You now have pure lard. You can use the same procedure to purify beef tallow for soap making. Mom knew all sorts of depression era household tricks of using everything and waste nothing.

I always keep my bacon grease , I strain it ( hot ) thrue a paper Coffee filter . Comes out Milk white. Store a jar in the fridge for 6 months . Have NEVER had it go bad . Have read studies that prove its healthier than cooking with margarine or most oils . Thanks for the great tip . No more splatter . Ontario Canada .

As someone who's never used induction, it's wild that you're cooking on top of paper towels. I love the idea of cooking bacon like this, it looks so effortless.

  • @leasagowers2293

I cook my bacon on a large baking sheet with 1/2 inch sides in the oven. It takes 20 minutes on 350. I line it with parchment paper and once it’s very crispy and done I pour the grease in a canister similar to yours and throw the parchment paper away. The cooking sheet is pretty clean for easy clean up. No mess in the oven either. No flipping necessary. This way is ok too. I’ve just always cooked it in the oven. Im set in my ways.😂

You got me hooked on cooking bacon with a pot. At 61yrs old, I just started changing to Animal Based eating and feel better just after a week. I know the Karen's without the actual name can be difficult and its funny how you comment about them. Keep the recipes going. It really helps a newbie like me. I order some items on the links you provided thankyou and best regards.

  • @robinvarnadoe8429

Have never seen anyone cook with paper towels under their cookware before. The wooden utensil you were using with the bacon is called a spurtle.

  • @susanknight53

I think a lot of us older people had moms who saved bacon grease like their mothers. It goes back generations! I love fried potatoes, hashbrowns, beans (green and dry), etc. Used in biscuits as well. Use frozen grease and either chopped or grated. Best biscuits ever!

As a kid, in the late '50s and '60s, mom

  • @mariannepeterson6725

Haven't seen this comment but with six kids in our family growing up, my mom would cook a pound of bacon and we wait till it was all cooked, line up at the toaster and dip our crisp toast in the hot bacon grease. Oh, heaven!

  • @kylerutherford7227

I'm 82, always save my bacon and sausage grease, no other for me, everything taste great. For you people that wash dishers by hand, throw away those sponges, dishrags, save those net bags like oranges and other fruits come in, put 3 or 4 in one bag, tie it up, wash your dishes pots, cast iron, easy clean up.

  • @oscarfarley4104

great way to cook a lot at once. I've found that if I use a screen cover instead of a lid it browns much faster. This is due the lack of water from the condensation formed by the lid... cheers, good eats!

  • @mikel9741

Thank you for the video. I love bacon and I always keep a sealed, glass container full in my fridge. I got this cooking tip from Dr. Berry. Easy, no mess and lots of delicious, nutritious bacon fat left over to use with your other carnivore delicacies! Day 76 and down 46 pounds on the carnivore diet! ;-)

  • @kimberlyfoss4787

You know what i noticed, was that the grease was so clean, not all burnt like pan frying gets. I'm definitely going to try this method. Thank you for sharing. From a fellow bacon lover🥰 looks so good!

  • @lisaannh.y.357

Looks great- going to try it tonight. I have been saving bacon grease for years by letting it cool to room temp, pouring it into silicone ice cube trays, freezing it and then popping them out into silicone zip lock bags to store frozen.

  • @LoriM1959

My grandmother used her bacon grease in place of butter as the lard in chocolate chip cookies. They were amazing!!!

  • @lesschattermoresplatter5769

I start mine out with melting a pound of bacon grease from the previous batch in the pot. Use medium heat until the water cooks off then low heat until the bacon is at the “swinging” stage. Don’t filter the grease. Just put it melted into a container and refrigerate it till solid then remove it from the container, flip it over and scrape all the brown crumbles from the bottom and save it to flavor other dishes.
