      The original low fat diet was a sham study in the first place. It was pushed hard and taken up by health professionals and it still persists today. We switched a few months ago and the differences are amazing.
      Now governments (Canadá for certain) are pushing health guides with lots of grains, low fat, margarine, industrial oils and the food industry is stepping up with lots of processed crap to make it “convenient”. So, yes, it is a campaign and is political as health is one of the three factors that allows people to have their own independence. Poor health equal reliance on drugs and government “health care” (which is really sick management) and this puts people under government control. But that gets into another story.

    • @jackbuaer3828
      @jackbuaer3828 Před rokem +4

      This area (soy) has already been highly studied , though no direct study on Impossible Burgers. At least 41 studies have been published on Soy's effects of testosterone and estrogen in men from 2010 -2020. The paper below, a meta analysis, did not find any negative effect on male hormones.
      "Concerns that the phytoestrogens (isoflavones) in soy may feminize men continue to be raised. Several studies and case-reports describing feminizing effects including lowering testosterone levels and raising estrogen levels in men have been published. For this reason, the clinical data were meta-analyzed to determine whether soy or isoflavone intake affects total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), estrone (E1), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). PubMed and CAB Abstracts databases were searched between 2010 and April 2020, with use of controlled vocabulary specific to the databases. Peer-reviewed studies published in English were selected if (1) adult men consumed soyfoods, soy protein, or isoflavone extracts (from soy or red clover) and [2] circulating TT, FT, SHBG, E2 or E1 was assessed. Data were extracted by two independent reviewers. With one exception, studies included in a 2010 meta-analysis were included in the current analysis. A total of 41 studies were included in the analyses. TT and FT levels were measured in 1753 and 752 men, respectively; E2 and E1 levels were measured in 1000 and 239 men, respectively and SHBG was measured in 967 men. Regardless of the statistical model, no significant effects of soy protein or isoflavone intake on any of the outcomes measured were found. Sub-analysis of the data according to isoflavone dose and study duration also showed no effect. This updated and expanded meta-analysis indicates that regardless of dose and study duration, neither soy protein nor isoflavone exposure affects TT, FT, E2 or E1 levels in men.
      Reed KE, Camargo J, Hamilton-Reeves J, Kurzer M, Messina M. Neither soy nor isoflavone intake affects male reproductive hormones: An expanded and updated meta-analysis of clinical studies. Reprod Toxicol. 2021 Mar.
      Also, note this comment:
      "To date, no studies have shown eating soy or isoflavones in moderation can feminize males or affect childhood development. Soy products have been a mainstay in Asian diets for centuries with no detriment to the male population, Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition and food studies at New York University, told The Washington Post in 2019. "
      Given all that, I am still not eating an Impossible Burger, nor will I be eating a regular beef burger. People scared me off soy more than 20 years ago, so it's not something I have eaten. I don't plan to take it up again. I would eat it in restaurant though. I have had miso soup in the last year.

    • @jackbuaer3828
      @jackbuaer3828 Před rokem

      The other thing to note is that an Impossible Burger gets part of its flavor from the addition of heme iron. It is suspected that high blood levels of iron (typically from animal foods, particularly read meat) may cause one to biologically age faster. If one ate copious amounts of Impossible Burgers, perhaps one may have the same potential iron problem that one could get from red meat. On the other hand, for people low in iron, read meat and impossible burgers may have some benefit to them. One could reduce their iron levels by donating blood. Perhaps one could also do that through copious amounts of exercise?
      "Dr Paul Timmers from the Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh, said: "We are very excited by these findings as they strongly suggest that high levels of iron in the blood reduces our healthy years of life, and keeping these levels in check could prevent age-related damage. We speculate that our findings on iron metabolism might also start to explain why very high levels of iron-rich red meat in the diet has been linked to age-related conditions such as heart disease."

    Here is the issue. IGF-1 is also stimulated by carbohydrates as well. So, while protein from red meat may elevate IGF-1, protein, unlike carbohydrates, facilitates better long term satiety. This, in turn, can make longer term fasting easier, which will mean less *CHRONIC* stimulation of IGF-1. Thus, this very satiating protein militates against the "possible" carcinogenesis of IGF-1 by reducing chronic exposure. Conversely, a low protein, and therefore higher carb diet, will make the practitioner of such a diet more ravenous and less likely to endure longer bouts of fasting, which will in turn will lead to more frequent elevations in IGF-1.

They'll ask food until you'll provide everything necessary for recovery, building or properly function. Nothing more. If you eat junk, then he'll ask for nutrients until he'll get everything. If the food doesn't have, you'll overeat some things and this fact will do 2 things: stress the organs (liver, pancreas, colon etc) and will store fat. Is that simple.

    Taurine and IGF-1 have an interesting relationship. Taurine also interferes with cancer proliferation.
    I believe what we see from those earlier studies are as stated, small number of people making a large difference due to small sample size used.
    What we do see in communities that eat fresh meat that would be high in taurine is low cancer incidence. Perhaps the issue can be as simple as low taurine in meat from the supermarket (water soluble so most of it is gone by the time you even get to cook it) not interacting with IGF-1.

    Media is promoting to take protein to keep muscle mass, especially for senior people. However, if people do not damage muscle fibers by exerting stress on them (exercising), their bodies do not use the protein consumed. Those protein would become excessive calories and are stored as fat. Then, people get further sedentary because they do not have enough muscles to move their own weights. Why don't nursing homes offer their residents strength training?

    First I really enjoy your channel! I love the deep dives into all things health and fitness and have made some small changes that have resulted in wonderful improvements (especially sleep related). Not related to cancer but perhaps other conditions related to meat and dairy, Medcram has a video called “Salic acids cause inflammation and Disease” from about a year ago. I would be interested in your take on this especially as it gets fairly technical. My understanding is that these are molecules which are attached to proteins from mammals (but not poultry or fish). They get absorbed my our bodies and then our immune systems see them as foreign bodies and then the immune system attacks those cells, producing inflammation.

    I recently learned about this youtube channel. I am INCREDIBLY grateful for a channel that "gets the concept" that there is much more complexity to metabolism than simply "meat equals bad" and "vegan equals good."
    Interesting enough, I believe a "religious" attachment to a particular nutritional model (e.g. veganism) is indeed caused by a spiritual motivation...but not a good one. Rather, I see it as a spiritual deficit for which "food religions" act as a means to compensate.
    The idea posed on this channel that (1) omnivore isn't automatically bad and (2) you should eat foods and proportions that reflect your lifestyle...is fantastic.
    Ok, one last note, I do think there is *something* worth being "religious" about when it comes to food. And that is (1) avoiding/detoxing from pathogens like PCB's and heavy metals and (2) avoiding processed foods, high sugars, and seed oils...basically "foods" and portions that our ancestors never knew. Do that, and exercise, and you will do well!

I suggest looking up the reason mice they use in the labs and the problems with them. And if you really wanted to dig up some stuff you could research how vegans have a higher mortality rate than meat eaters... including cancers of various kinds.

    According to Thomas Seyfried PhD, certain cancers such as lymphoma use glutamine more as an energy source than glucose. Meats are high in glutamine. Further, factory raised beef is higher in omega 6 which is connected with arterial diseases. So, it depends on the health situation of each individual as to whether or not they should consume meat. A good video dispelling the general fear of meat, but it would be helpful if these other subtitles were added.

      I have Dr Seyfried's book "Cancer as a Metabolic Disease". He and his research teams are literally exploring potential cancer therapeutics combined with Ketogenic diets. Why? Because unlike healthy cells, cancer cells cannot effectively utilize ketones for fuel. Seyfried is well aware of Otto Warburg's groundbreaking research on cancer from 100 years ago. Cancer cells voraciously ferment glucose for energy. (PET scans take advantage of this fact by using radio-labeled glucose to locate tumors via imaging.) And yes. the amino acid Glutamine can also be fermented for fuel by certain cancer cells. I suspect that Seyfried will start experimenting with carnivore diets, if he hasn't begun already. Because nothing induces ketosis as effectively as a zero carb diet.

    Where are the studies saying exercise reduces your chances of getting cancer? Heart disease, yes, diabetes yes, all-cause mortality yes, but not cancer. Given that cancer is fairly uncommon for individuals that don't have other risk factors, and cardiac and metabolic diseases are fairly common, especially in people that don't exercise, I would say you're better off to take your chances with exercise, even if there is a correlation here. A moderate amount of exercise is probably not going to raise you IGF that much anyway.

    WHO does specify protein levels for sustenance: 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight, the Dietary Reference Intake. Granted some interpret that as a max where I see that as a minimum. If you're exercising then 0.7-1 g/ per your lean mass (remove fat weight) should be ok. Body builders will do 1.5 g of protein / pound of body weight and beyond (haven't actually found literature for that yet). It's one of those topics. Healthline has a good summary.

    Has it been considered that one of the reasons red meat is linked to cancer is not necessarily because of the meat itself but what may be in the food that animals eat before we eat them? Why? If antibiotics and other additives are given to animals to grow bigger and faster, what is this doing to our bodies as this protein is consumed. Would it not be more beneficial to consume meat from grass fed animals to receive more positive benefits of animal protein?

  • @kwongheng

    I feel that the comment about those on carnivore eating too much protein is unwarranted. I will agree with you if they are drinking protein shakes or liquids but if someone is eating a whole foods meat there is an indir limited due to satiety. It impossible for anyone to over eat on proteins the way you described if they are not have them as liquid. Whether a person exercise or not, the body will send stop signals when enough is enough. Furthermore, what we eat don't mean what gets absorbed. The body also slows down digestion and this also limits when you take the next meal, if there is too much. Meat Al's gets passed off down to the toilet. Those eating carnivore diet can tell you that.

If I were engaged in a HIIT program, then I would need to eat two meals a day to fuel that additional calorie expenditure. This would facilitate the growth of lean muscle mass. Personally, I cannot effectively gain lean muscle mass on OMAD. And, I cannot gain adipose tissue without either consuming carbs or expanding my feeding window, or both.

    Everything you eat probably has some kind of study that says its good for you and another that says its bad for you. The only carbs I eat in my diet is one avocado per day. Today I heard a video that said avocados will give you heart disease, because of an antifungal in the seeds and skin called Persin. Alittle of the Persin gets into the meat of the fruit. I just try and monitor whats going with my body, how I look and how I feel. If I'm sleeping good, loosing fat, building muscle, not getting sick, urine is a nice clear yellow, stool is regular and formed, Blood pressure is good, resting pulse is low 50's, A1C=4.5, Triglycerides =62, I'm 46 and in the best shape of my life. But now I'm going to die because I eat red meat and avocados. I guess I'll did happy at 230 lbs compared to when I was 380 lbs sad and depressed, crying for no reason sometimes. No body said anything about my diet or that it would kill me. Know people see me and they want to know my exercise routine, what supplements I take and what foods I eat. Then when I tell them what I eat they say "That's going to clog your arteries", as they're slamming down a Pepsi and Doritos. All I know is anything in excess will kill you. You can drink to much water and die. I figure if I feel good today chances are I will feel good tomorrow. The same goes the other way, if you feel bad today you most likely will feel bad tomorrow. Thats if you keep doing the same thing. I have been feeling good for a while now and I have been consistenly eating the same exact foods every day. This is my daily consumption. 1 dozen eggs, 1 lbs 85/15 grass fed beef, one can of sardines, 4 oz of grass fed butter one avocado and 2 tsp of redmans real salt. I will eat fruit on occasion but I have to be careful, fruit can be a gateway drug for me sometimes. I think thats around 3200 calories. That pretty much keeps my weight the same give or take a pound daily. If I want to loose some fat and tighten up I decrease the butter, if I want to add weight I add butter. Someone might think that it is a restrictive diet but I dont see it that way. Every time I have one of my meals, it is delicious. I spread that list of food out to 4 meals in a day. I call it protein dosing with food. Instead of disgusting protein shakes I just eat food that has protein and all the other building blocks for my body. I'm not against people's use of protein shakes but for me it's a no go. I tried it once I got it down and it tasted good but after I finished it I then projectile vomited all over the carpet, and that was my last protein shake. I just started using creatine about 2 months ago, and I take magnesium glycinate before bed.
