  • In this video I've tried to list down some issues or quirks I've experienced as an owner of Interceptor 650. Now I absolutely love this bike but just like anything else in this world even this bike isn't perfect and I'm being practical here.
    Do let me know if you agree with these points.

      Handlebar wobbling issue existed even before Ladakh ride...but it used to happen after 80 kmph....but since I've got Handlebar risers installed this issue has started happening after 50 kmph.
      My friend who also owns a Interceptor has this issue as well...and his bike is just 4 months old.

    handle bar wobbling problem is due to the spokes alignment in your wheels, just go to a tyre shop and ask them to align your spokes, the wobbling will go.

    Loved the puppy in your video❤️. One thing fuel gauge is a main problem of RE. Have been using RE for past 7.5 years. Got TB 350X 3 years back from Classic. The fuel gauge is an issue, doesn't give a proper reading. I planned to buy interceptor, due to pillion discomfort, still now I am in the thinking phase 😂. Very informative video.

    Gonna get bar end mirrors. And thanks for the heads up on wobble. I'll check it out first thing when I get delivery of the bike. Some people say tightening the spokes and checking air pressure fixes it. Some other say it's a wide known issue, so some dealers swap them out for other tyres without a fuss. I don't know if they would do so in India, but will try.

  • @soulbrothers1009

    Handle bar shaking problem is very common in Royal Enfield there are few points u can check to fix it 1.tyre pressure 2. Check con set is it ok maybe to tight or loose 3.front wheel alignment 4. Front suspension alignment due to this your front brake pads keeps touching your disc. Now ur rear wheel bobbling only a good quality mag wheels can fix it the stock wheels can't handle the weight n speed of intercptor if you still want to stick to spoke wheels u need to tighten up the spokes every month I think that's a impossible task

    Have the BS6 version. Thankfully, none of these issues I have. On long rides the seat also doesn't bother so much. Heard that they made it firmer compared to earlier versions. Anyways, I have two seats. Stock for city and a custom seat for touring. All is well with this beauty as far as I am concerned.

      I felt the need to customise the stock seat only after I did the Ladakh ride... Our long rides consists of days when we ride for 17 hrs too.... otherwise for city usage and usual 150-200 kms rides this seat is just fine.

    As for the front Tyre wobble, try changing the fork oil. I've read on some forums that if you change the oil from 5W to 7W, that'll help and maintain that with the Tyre pressure. A few errors here and there and you'll get it solved.

    - I have a GT650, I have experienced no wobbles. Everytime you get a puncture repaired get the wheel balancing done as these rims are weight balanced. Note the small weights on your rim. Also if you want you can get a sealant done on your spokes which then eliminates the need of a tube.

    for hi-speed wobble
    kindly add 2-3 clicks of preload on the rear shock(considering stock preload is zero preload settings)
    it should reduce the wobble between 150-160kms speed (the method is to set for total sag same for front and rear )
    on handled bar shaking at 70kms (now at 50kms) I guess should be the front tyre or front tyre is not balanced (for spoked wheels there is wheel balancing weights but it's limited to very few tyre shops)... try getting it balanced on new tyre since balancing old tyre is of no benefit.

  • @74anir
    @74anir Před 4 lety

    For the handlebar wobble you can try adjusting the handlebar ball racers.... it's actually a trial & error method ....you loosen or tighten a bit & try out high speeds. This is how I got it done. Handle bar wooble may also happen due to excees luggage while touring & also due to incorrect tyre pressure. Apart from that the fuel meter is really just a show piece on this bike & as you rightly observed the only way in long rides is to keep tab of the distance covered. I usually start looking for a petrol pump once I have done 210/220kms.

    • @TheTwinPost
      @TheTwinPost  Před 4 lety +1

      Wobbling issue that I showed in this video was right after I got a fuel top up + tyre pressure checked and I was riding alone without any luggage at all.

      @@TheTwinPost I discovered this handle bar wobbling issue during my very first long ride to Darjeeling from Kolkata. At that time I thought it was probably because of the heavy luggage & pillion as my wife had also joined me for the ride. However, to my surprise later I found that the issue was there even without luggage & after quite a few experiments like checking the wheels for any loose spokes & trying different tyre pressure , finally it got sorted out with adjusting the ball racers a few times.

Simplest solution would be alloy wheels but since RE hasn't officially launched one for the 650 (never trust aftermarket alloys) the next expensive option would be Outex which costs around 14k rupees. A cheaper option is (Way2Speed) industrial glue which can be applied inside the spoke rims and make it tubeless.

      I personally never experienced any problems with the rider footpegs... I'm not too tall though but taller than an avg rider (I'm 5'11.5 ). Footpegs never hit my shin or anything.
      Pillion footpegs in stock condition are a bit too high up (becuase of the upswept exhausts) but that issue have been 20-30% solved after I got my seat customised. Now as the high of the pillion seat has been considerably raised and even the cushion quality is a bit more firm....pillion doesn't have to bend theri knees that much.

      Hi Vijay... If you're planning to buy the RC390 with touring on your mind then please be aware that your long distance rides will be really demanding for your wrists, neck and back. RC390 is basically a legal version of track machine with really agressive riding stance and no real comfort. You'll definitely enjoy zipping through mild city traffic on it but traffic jams is again something which won't be pretty on this machine.

    Regarding the handle wobble, it will scare you but there is physics acting remember. Your T stem or some major part in the front suspension is out of spec. So the faulty part causes the handle to move but the motion of the bike ( inertia) forces the handle to correct itself by going in the opposite direction. My scooter handle too which has a damaged T wobbles scarily after 50kmph( I know not in the same ball park but similar) and after deceleration pulls towards left. Try to see at speeds around 50 whether bike pulls to one side and raise the issue to RE

    Regd the handle wobble issue, it is due to the extra fittings attached to the chassis of your bike. I too had similar problem after attaching a pillon back support. Problem solved immediately after removing it.
    The NON ROYAL ENFIELD manufactured attachments like the engine guard and rear saddle with pillion back support cause this. These attachments need to be equal in weight on both sides and an easy fit. Not a tight fit.
    It imbalances the weight distribution on the chassis causing the wobble.
    Please check out this by yourself. Undo all extra fitting that are not provided from RE Accessories.
    It is something like a few grams of weight on a car tyre during wheel balancing can reduce vibrations in a car. It's some what similar. I'm not an engineer so I can't explain but it's just my logic. Believe me it works.

    Hey as an rc390 rider buying the interceptor 650 would you r still prefer to go back to rc/duke 390 due to the said issues??? Or do you think 650 is worth it?(without considering the retro looks)??

    • @TheTwinPost
      @TheTwinPost  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Ghoul... After owning the RC for almost 2.5 years I realised it's not my cup of tea... It's riding position was just way too committed for my style of riding. There were minor issues in the RC as well - Once I got both the fairings removed and got rubber mounts installed in every joint to get rid of the irritating vibration sound (this trick worked). Similarly even Interceptor has few niggles but nothing that I can't work around.
      I genuinely think the 650 is definitely worth it...and minor mods I've made to it has made it the fit my requirements really well.

  • @Sanjeet_1810
    @Sanjeet_1810 Před 4 lety

    1st problem is not just there in interceptor but most of the 2 wheelers with digital fuel meter. I've seen it in Aprilia, bajaj, even in ktm Duke 390. So that's something we have to live with. The 3rd problem you mentioned was of the speed stability. Well Royal Enfield is not a bike that is supposed to be stretched at speeds like 150 or 160 on Indian roads even thought the engine displacement is 650cc. It is supposed to be cruised at around 100 - 110. And about the mirrors, I think bar end mirrors are the perfect solution for the issue faced by you. Well these were the issues I feel were not something that could be complained about. Other than that the seat , the lack of tubeless tyres is genuinely something that has to be looked into. Well there's one more thing I'd like to say. After many years of having primitive designs and lack of features, RE has finally stepped up and given us two machines which are very good compared to what they have served before. So let's just give RE some time and hope to see improvements in it. Nice video :)

    • @TheTwinPost
      @TheTwinPost  Před 4 lety +1

      Without a doubt I absolutely love the Interceptor and even today I would've bought the same bike if I had a similar budget.
      The mirror issue isn't really an issue anymore for me since I've gotten used to it.
      About the high-speed wobbling...indeed Interceptor is not meant to be ridden at 150-160+ ....it's just something that I noticed when I tried to hit those speeds on the expressway... I'm more than happy cruising at 100-120 on it.
      I hope you understand that these weren't things I was nagging about but things I thought were something that people won't be able to understand after just 10 minutes of test ride.

      Hi Mohit if you can live with the tube tyres then it's fine...but if you want to switch to tubeless then you either will need alloy wheels or tubeless conversion kit plus tubeless tyres as well since the stock tyres aren't tubeless now.
      Seat is fine for city rides....you can get it customised for long rides.
      In city it can manage once you're used to its handling....it definitely won't handle like a Duke.
