If I recall correctly Heimdall is more stoic in Norse mythology. Where the one in the game is less so.
Very much so, Heimdall, Odin & Baldr all have their personalities flipped.
remember ragnarok in god of war happened 100 years earlier than it should have, so heimdall is considerably younger and less mature
@@MythologyFictionExplained Odin I think is the only to your list as in the game he's very like mythic counterpart. He is still the great deceiver.
Funny enough, Marvel’s Heimdall in personality was more accurate to the Myths.
@@litepaw7yes unlike the one we got on ragnarok whom I consider the most is a bad adaptation same goes with Thor and Odin but for Baldur I dunno about that

I was wondering why the ending was so sudden and what was missing and realised "Oh...you didn't say 'I've been your host'". Part of me kind of misses that. But I understand if you don't want to have to say the same thing every time. You are a brilliant host by the way 😊
I really love Heimdall in gow, him being somewhat sassy is very funny to me, I was rlly disappointed when he was BRUTALLY killed by kratos, I honestly think if heimdall wasn't cocky and arrogant he could've been alive

@@gravesidepoet5405 I do recall kratos spearing his arm and pulling it out, not to mention kratos also slamming his head on hard concrete rock, kinda brutal to me

to me he only died because he got scared and panicked. since he has never been hit he got overwhelmed when he did get hit so he lost all focus then everytime after that u can see his fear growing. the last straw was when kratos was going to spare him and he uses all his energy into one move and when he gets hit the last time all that energy goes and he can’t fight back anymore
@@kia6244 not to what you've seen before from Kratos, Heimdall got off easy compared to the werewolf thing you encounter quite often
Heimdall is my favorite Aesir god in Norse mythology. He is also one of my favorite characters in the game lmao he’s a menace. His fight was crazy, him dodging Kratos’ punches was awesome. And his death was BRUTAL

This man is a monster and basically nigh untouchable kratos need a weapon specifically to counter him and kratos even stated that the spear is "their only chance" and even freya stated that he could win against thor 1v1 he is arrogant and has a strength to back it up.
And don't tell me he got scared by thor he is only disgusted by what he sees in him.

If we talking about Norse mythical accurate Heimdall then perhaps. but if we talking about Gow Version then No. he definitely scared of Thor. and Kratos cause Ragnarok sooner than it should be. so what we saw in Gow Ragnarok are a younger and lesser mature version of Heimdall.

Heimdall is not scared of thor he is just disgusted on what he saw he literally ready to fight him before he looked into thor's eye there is a difference between being disgusted and being scared

Mythology, will there be a full series of these? I'm trying to look up all the names and get their back story and see how it links to gow but, it's been a really slow process. I'm also waiting for the creator who did the Untangling God Of War video essay to make a follow up. But I would love to use this as a backup.
I will be covering the game for a few weeks so we should get round to covering most of the new characters in Ragnarok.

Why did Thor disappear into a blue dust while Heimdall’s body stayed on the floor after being killed?
I’m thinking that Thor being half Giant maybe had a part to play. When Odin soul was removed from his body his body did not disappear either.

It was never implied in the game. Odin doesn't treat heimdall like a son, but a loyal servant. Heimdall also doesn't refer to both thor and baldur as his brothers. Im wondering if the god of war canon changed their blood relation. The only thing he and odin had in common is their short stature, which is also shared with baldr.

what I wanna know is why was the Spear so necessary?
Because he can't foresight it being exploded to blind him
It was Kratos' strategy to harm him thus the spear.
Basically Draupnir's ability to multiply overwhelms Heimdall's foresight because he has to focus on multiple things that are going to happen instead of only one. Plus, Kratos unpredictability and impulsive way of fighting makes his moves harder to read
I didn't quite like God of Wars portrayal of the Norse Gods. It didn't seem faithful to the sagas, but that is their right to do so.
Neither Greek saga of GoW was all accurate tbh. Hades for example is in game portrayed as like Satan figure and his underworld as Christian Inferno, while canonically he is the calmest of the three brother-gods (others are Zeus and Poseidon) who just rules over the dead, and they fare the same as they did in life.
@@RebelWvlf Oh I definitely agree, I never much cared for mainstream media's portrayal of Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. You look at Disney's Hercules, Clash of the Titans series, and many others always show Hades as the villain while making Zeus out to be this fatherly hero when in fact they never show the truly awful things Zeus has done like all the times he's basically had his way with women regardless whether they wanted to or not or aware of who he was. Not to mention the whole issue with Poseidon and Medusa, which was rather tragic for Medusa. Of course, Hades doesn't lack for scandals with the case of him and Persephone. Of course, that's up for interpretation on whether she ran away with him or he took her against her will.
But even so, it's safe to say that out of the three, Hades probably has the least amount of scandals out of them. I'll say that at least God of War doesn't make Zeus out to be some great dad or benevolent god. Zeus has done some truly awful things.
@@RebelWvlf Of course, when you look at the awful things their father did to them, their actions shouldn't really be surprising. I will give Zeus credit, at least he didn't continue the cycle of child abuse, by eating or imprisoning his own children as his father did before him and his grandfather before him. Don't get me wrong, he was by no means, a good father. Of course, when you're married to your sister, it's easy to understand why your marriage isn't the best.

@@GuyChooo Maybe the look of Thor, aside from the lack of chest protection. But in the Edda's, Thor's not really portrayed as angry and bitter all the time. Don't get me wrong, he has a hot temper when provoked. Just ask the Jotunn who he's killed quite a few of. But he's also characterized as a friend to mankind. He's been displayed as a fun person to have at parties. The Thor in God of War is too, one-dimensional. He lacks any type of good qualities that Thor has in the Eddas.

He knows Thor not Kratos by the time they fight and he underestimated kratos when fighting Atreus
you all forgot but during the scene with Thrud and Atreus, he told Thrud that everyone was afraid of his father (Thor) but not him, he even insulted him as a drunk.
@@Beauto093 you seem to forget that he was only saying that behind Thor's back. Insulting a person behind their back when they're not able to hear you doesn't make you not afraid of that person, it in fact makes you a coward.
