Fellow Theorists, today is an exciting day! Bendy and The Ink Machine has returned! After a 5-year hiatus, Joey Drew Studios is back with a new installment in the Bendy universe: Bendy and The Dark Revival. Today, I sat on the couch in pursuit of the glorious kernels of LORE that I KNEW would be in this game, and we’ve definitely hit gold friends. I personally think it's a tragedy that I'll never get to see Matpat in a musical theater production, his acting and singing are phenomenal, I would've loved to have seen it

I like how Audrey is ACTUALLY freaked out and scared because most horror game protagonists are just like “oh no what happened to me oh well let’s just keep moving” like it became a normal thing in a split second but Audrey ACTUALLY possesses fear of what she’s become

Hey Mat, the reason she has ink on her cuticles, is when dipping the ink pen into the bottle may leave a residue on the finger. I line my animation panels with ink; it happens to me a lot 😅.

When you get through the game, you get to know that she is actually made of ink, as she was born from the ink machine because of Joey.
Could also be from just cleaning your hands after getting ink everywhere. Stuff that stains (hair dye, easter egg dye, highly pigmented nail polishes, some foods) are hard af to get out of your cuticles.
I'm an amateur animator, so I don't know for sure, but that character [reference] sheet she has on her desk at the beginning seems kind of small. Wouldn't it at least have the characters from the back, or other angles?

Alice’s (Allison’s) wolf she refers to is Tom the Borris who, if you remember from Chapter 5 wasn’t very warm to Henry for a long while. Guessing Allison doesn’t want to subject you to that as well.
He left Henry to die so. . . Yeah, that's pretty understandable on Alison's part.
"Can we just- I don't like the fingers. Why do they move like that." And with this, Ash has successfully guessed one of the final cutscenes from the game.

Remember that Audrey is a 'Child of the Ink' now. The ink is going to affect her in ways it didn't affect Henry. Alice said in the first game they couldn't go in the Ink, so if she's slow walking through large amounts of Ink that may be why

I like how Matt checked every single desk at Archgate EXCEPT the one that actually has foreshadowing.
It’s fun watching Matt play games because he has the gamer sense to know when something smells wrong, but the gamer skills to play like a five year old was just introduced to playing mirrors edge and had no idea how to look down at times. Love you and your channels!

7:00 Matt, this is actually very realistic. It’s easier to get a good scrub on your nail or skin than it is to get into the grooves around your nail, so ink buildup like this is common for ink artists. Source: I am one 😂

There's a reason i don't watch other playthroughs. they walk past something and I'm yelling at my screen things like ''What was that?'' "Was that important?" "YOU MISSED SOMETHING"
MatPat always looks in every corner he can and true he still misses somethings sometimes but i have the feeling i watch someone PLAY a game and not just FINISH a game as quick as possible. It gets all the fun out if you do it so quickly doesn't it?

Yeah, I get the same feeling a lot of the time. It reminds me of FNAF World. Where he gave it some time, and sure it’s because he was talking with Steph and Jason, but he was the only person I’ve seen who figured out the clock ending first because he took the time.
I feel the same way about all of the games he plays, he takes the time to figure little things out and look into every corner.

That’s why I love their FNAF World play through so much! They had to be the one of the first (if not the first) channel to play through and get the clock ending first!
I generally thought MatPat was going to unlock the secret ending without knowing because they just sat there looking for clues at the desk without standing up. (For anyone who doesn’t understand, you get the secret ending by doing nothing at the desk for literally 15-20 minutes)

i love batim and i’ve watched so many people’s play through but matt is always my favorite. he keeps it entertaining throughout even on the slow parts by telling stories or discussing lore but stops when something happens. i also really love that he is so thorough in his gameplay because i can’t stand watching people pass by stuff because i’m always so curious. keep up the amazing work!
Some people don't like the fact that Mat goes through every little detail and takes like 15 minutes or so in a single hallway, but I kind of like it. You can see his brain working while he does it. And since he is a big theorist, he has to see tiny details. For example, he spotted an Illusion of Living book by Joey Drew hidden in a pipe in a way that's kind of sus, that makes you think the team put it there on purpose.
..yeah. They did. You’re supposed to collect it for the meme ending.
Just finished watching Dawko finish this. Can't wait to see MatPat's reaction to the game and it's lore. ☺️

After watching Pastra’s full playthrough I love this game ngl. It has its flaws, the combat is better than the original but not great, and the stealth has some issues, but the presentation from visuals to voice acting is absolutely incredible. It has the charm of the original while building on the lore in a believable way and having some fun fan service without being too over the top with it. You can tell how much love went into it
Mat, your voices are great, but just in case there's a play button in that menu. Sometimes you gotta get the lore through their intonation, how they *feel* during the recording.

MatPat's voice-acting is flawless,, I almost don't want him to figure out that the play button next to the name of the memo plays the voice-actors track.
This is the horror game I can get behind, it is scary, but enjoyable, it hit that perfect cartoonish animation mixed with intrigue and suspense. I just love it!
I think the code '451' might be a reference to Fahrenheit 451 and overall, the temperature at which paper burns. Really clever for a studio that uses lots of paper. Maybe it's a hint for a later plot point - a fire of some sorts? I haven't seen the entire game yet so idk. It'd be really cool.
Not sure if this has been said but the chef special on the employee lounge sign is french. Its traditional a classic word for beef stew "boeuf bourguignon" (sorry if spelt wrong) but the sign states a dish of "Amie bourguignon" which essentially stands for 'Friend Stew'. Some lovely implications with that one 💀

I strongly believe those notes signed with "Your Best Pal" is from Henry. If you remember from the ending of the first game, Henry signed the painting he gifted to Joey with "Your Best Pal, Henry Stein"

That sheet on the pinbourd at the start of the game is not a calender, it's a frame timing sheet meant to keep track of base frames and how many will be between them so all the animators can keep track of timing, framing, and proper distribution of frames

A little detail: the handwriting in the notes indicates the origin of the writer. The normal handwriting shows that the writer was a human, while the other one, such as 29:38, reveals that the author is a Lost One.
_Pro Tip for Matt if he ever gets tired or gets a sore throat by doing the voices for the tapes :_ In your collectibles menu, in the tape section, you will notice a play icon next to the tape you've selected. Simply press the icon and use the subtitles on the right as reference. There will be a few mistakes in the transcript but not one so jarring that it completely invalidates it. Hope this helps if one day you decide to catch a cold but still insist on playing BATDR.

The thing that really throws me off about the elevator scene is that she knows who the janitor is and calls him by name immediately. But he doesn't act like he knows who she is outside of being an employee.

there actually is an audio log for shawn flynn in the game, it's just later in the game and very well hidden. hope you find it and the sidequest it leads to
I've just re-watched this video and I think another reason I found the "inpatient hand weird is because the sequence the fingers tap is backwards to me. I normally tap with my pointer first in the sequence, but she taps with her pinky first. 😅

I wanted to let you know. If you want the voice acting for the recordings when you look at them on the pause menu, there's a play button next to each name of the recordings and that's how you get the audio
Fun fact: During BATIM on of the tapes you can find and listen to, is from Thomas Conner says that the elevators don’t work the best and that he rather take the stairs. That may be the reason the elevator broke at the beginning. Just a thought
The reason why Ash didn’t like the finger movements is actually because it’s backwards to what most people normally move. Most people lift their index finger first and drum it down first, instead of the other way around. It’s something simple that makes our brain freak out because it’s uncanny.
Edit: so there are a lot of people that drum pinky first…but they don’t find the motion weird. So I’m guessing Ash drums index first and that’s why she’s weirded out by it.

seriously though, I think it's really just that the movement is a bit stiff. Its close enough that its not the most noticeable thing, but the slight stiffness in the movement makes it a bit robotic, possibly falling into the uncanny valley as its so close to human, but just a bit off.
(edit) Also the fact the the rest of the forearm/wrist is almost entirely still, which is odd as although the arm stays mostly still for this movement it still moves a bit (especially at an angle like that) since there are no muscles in the fingers and it's only muscles and tendons in the arm and palm that move the fingers. There is just an overall disjointed feel to the arm, like its not connected at all to the rest of the body.

I think it’s worth pointing out that the painting of the houses Matpat pointed out at 16:34 is the same one in the safehouse in the beginning of chapter 3 to the left of the exit door in the original game. Also this is game is so good so far, I’m loving it sm!

I think when Alice said she had a wolf that doesn't like strangers I believe she is referring to Tom not Boris. As Tom was the one didn't like Henry but followed around Allison Angel in the first game. Meanwhile Boris was willing to help Henry out after Henry removed the wrench from his chest & turned the ink machine on

23:43 intentionally or not the yellow hue (forgetting the actual word rn) that everything takes on after Audrey turns inky I feel like confirms that Henry got tricked by Joey and made into an ink character (likely Bendy imo) and that’s why the studio is in that same hue in the first game as well, but in the cut scene in the house everything looks normal.

Oh, matt XD that's not a calendar that's called an exposure sheet. Basically, with old hand-drawn cartoons, each cell was photographed to put on film. The exposure sheet, x-sheet or sheet timer was basically how the animator told the film crew what order, spacing, and camera settings to put the frames in. This is where you might "animate on twos" by putting cells in every other space. while "animating on ones" would be each space. They are basically sectioned off by frames per second. I believe each sheet accounts for ten seconds of film. It was also where they would also sometimes mark sound design and fx notes.

I think, I should clarify. There are 3 different types of notes in BATDR. There are Studio Memos and Notes from The Lost. They each have different drawings on the paper you collect if you pay attention, I believe. SMs have Bendy's Head on the sheet and NfTLs have an ink hand on it.
