The last story is heartbreaking.... Everyone failed the little girl... And everyone just tried to escape from taking the responsibility...
they all are
@@lynnbrockel especially the last one, I'm fuming with anger
I couldnt finish lostening to it. I dont know how it ends and don't want to know 😢😢
@@lynnbrockel yes but the last girl.. no one saved her... Everyone got some help.. someone saved them... But that poor little girl.. no one helped her... I can't even imagine..
@thedreamerthatdreams I'm wit u on dat smh dat broke my heart sumthin stupid smh
OMG the story about Victoria has me physically ill. How could so many people drop the ball. Dr's. Nurses, preachers, Social workers. Her aunt EVERYONE failed this poor baby.
I'm so confused as to why her parents, when not being able to contact her, didn't do anything to reach out to her??
@@ontoLovingMyselfthey tried but they're in a poor section of their country in africa, and they didn't have the resources to contact someone who cut off contact with them, and the evil Aunt change their daughters name when she enrolled her in the French School
This is the first time I've ever heard 'Lets Read!' disgusted or hesitant during a reading. :o
Wow, Victoria’s story is just horrid. I can’t imagine the guilt her parents must feel, thinking they were giving her a better life only to endure one so filled with suffering. I hope Victoria’s “guardian” feels all the same pain she did.
it reminds me of Terrell Peterson's case. Except in his case, there was a deliberate cover-up.
Unfortunately, monsters like that , are totally incapable of relating to the human condition, possibly because they were raised the same way. You cannot have your soul redeemed, if you do not possess one first.
My wife is a social worker that helps singles moms escaping domestic abuse and their children. She helps them get jobs and helps them get back on their feet. Social workers are truly amazing ❤️
Sounds like your wife is a good person. Although, some ppl no matter the field don't always have the best of Intentions ( mainly talking about the CPS part, not the half that cares. CPS hasn't been looking very good lately on the news😢). But hats off to your wife tho bc world def needs those ppl!!!❤
@@somerking7040youre so right. Cps is just a buch of lawles, evil kidnappers.. the worst kind.
@@somerking7040 sad , but true they’re not all like his wife.
She helps them escape their children?
Sounds extremely strange
I wish your wife was in Oregon🙏
my mother was a social worker and she managed to get a whole ass boarding school shut down due to its medical neglect towards their students. My mother has helped so many children and families, yet she has seen all the horrors of this world, I have mad repsect for any and all social workers who are doing their best to help others
Your mother has a place on the right hand side of the Lord . I pray she receives
this honour in life on earth, not just after.
She was strong in her convictions & had faith in herself , to do what she did. Your mother is a real life hero.
@@user-digitalfarmgirl funny, my mother is catholic and she knows she's got a place with the lord up there lol. She's still alive, she just doesn't do that kind of work anymore
I’ve been watching you for like 7 years and I’m a social worker I can’t even believe you made this video I’m so excited!
This is so sweet!
Share some stories then!
Ik I get so excited when I see my jobs stories I work overnights so they’re always mysterious stories
Former Social Worker but felt the same way! ❤
I get how youre excited cuz it's your line of work, and then we launch into the stories and it's like..😢... But anyway, thank you for what you do❣️
I'm a social worker and never thought I'd see my profession on here. I've been doing this for twenty years and its been something. Its definitely made me both more and less of a people person.
i hear you!! it's the truth innit, over the years that line between work you and private you - becomes SUPER drawn up. And for me it means that I am not 'all embracing' to any extend as a private person, i worked adult protective services before shifting to a different line of social work, but it just made me - uhm... jaded i suppose?
I'm surprised he doesn't have more on here. You'd think there'd be an abundance of horror stories related to social work?
The Victoria Climbiė story will haunt me forever. She was let down at every turn. Thing is, this was over 20 years ago and due to 2 more decades of further under funding and a government that doesn't care, all public services are beyond breaking point. when this story hit the headlines, everyone promised that lessons would be learned, but nothing improved. More children have been overlooked and failed. Nothing has improved and things are even worse.
It's heartbreaking. After Victoria, then Baby P. Now Arthur Labinjo. Like you said ,the constant underfunding of children's services isn't only paid for with money, but sadly children's lives.
SOCIAL WORKERS RISE UP (everyday is a scary story)
Social workers unite!!
❤ here!
After that last story I have to admit I don't have the highest opinion of social workers right now.
@@linsqopiring6816 As a social worker, I don’t blame you one bit. Everyone passed the case assuming the next person was taking care of Victoria’s case….. so many people dropped the ball. Although in most states a social workers case load is incredibly overloaded and overwhelming, there is no excuse for what happened to this baby girl. It’s just horrific😔
@@suzf5045well thanks for owning up to it on behalf of your profession. I'm sure most go into it with the best of intentions. It's also the system right? Besides under staffing and overworking it seems like a lot of common sense policies weren't there that should have been. For example if someone claims to leave the country not to just take their word for it to require proof of where they're going, and to be in touch with the authorities where they are going to. Or even to revoke passports if there is an open abuse file going.
The last story had me triggered. Little Victoria deserved so much better than what she went through, and her death could've been avoided if the system did their job to actually protect that poor child!!! RIP baby girl

Me a social worker getting home from work, feeling stressed and tired, and then seeing this. I clicked so freaking fast! Thank you Joel now I have something to listen to while I eat some dinner and wind down 🙏
For all of the social workers commenting. If it weren't for a social worker who was impervious to manipulation, i would not be here, so from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU! 😊
The second story made my heart hurt so much. That poor little girl. I cannot imagine Andy’s guilt and grief. I don’t know if I could ever return to that line of work after that little girl.
Poor Victoria, the ball was dropped again and again and again...so sad
I worked in forensic psych for most of my life and know of at least 4 patients that have pulled out their own eyeballs. Some we saved, others we couldn’t. One got rolled to the judge in court and one girl did it wayyyy too often. Eyeballs are remarkably easy to pop out. And the optical nerve is pretty strong, but if you sever it, you’ll most likely lose the eye.
Sick.
😮
Ah yes " challenging behavior".I had a client who used to prolapse himself regularly...
I'm so unnerved by this comment 😳
Which one?
I remember Victoria's story very well. I lived in London at the time. It was all over the news for months. For the ten years I lived there, the British news mentionned Victoria on a regular basis.
As much as I can remember, no one was blamed for failing to protect her. Notably, social services. No one took responsability.
The ones like these are my favorite kind of stories. Police, park ranger, private investogator, ems etc. Those kind of stories to me just hit different
Mine too!!!
Same😊
What do you mean
Victoria's case is reminiscent of little Gabriel Fernandez... I'm surprised his wasn't included in this upload.
I watched that on Netflix and had nightmares for weeks. I would see him crying each time!
I'm sure this one's going to be horrific! I don't think I could survive being a social worker, at least not for CPS or equivalent.
I am not a social worker, but this has been my therapy for quite some time, it helps me get away from all the stress inducing crap I have been dealing with for years. PTSD is a horrible illness, so I'm glad the social worker called out what this is for many of us. Joel you have amazing ability, and I am so excited for the rest of "O death"...
Me too
Lol what
Former social worker here. Andy gave wise advice: Social workers need constant therapy by therapists who work with social workers.
If you’re a social worker saying you don’t need help, you are either ineffective or a liar. There no in betweens.
I wish I could have met a social worker like any of you,
I wish I new a single kind and caring social worker that wasn’t vindictive, selfish, and had a god complex. Thank you for your stories, you all sound like genuine good people
Yea most don’t act the way you’re describing. Maybe look Into why each you met did.
@@PsychGirlRaven I’m really speaking of just 1 social worker. One that got into an accident at 65mph with my daughter and ex wife in the van, proceeded to call her girlfriend crying that “this happened because she’s working so late”. We called 911. She was so rude the cop literally ther her drivers license at her. I like a man idiot , like the biggest idiot in the universe gave her attitude from the very start. You could see the excitement in her eyes, she leaned in really close and said “ either 1 of you goes down, or all of you go down”……. Before you know it every adult in the house was substantiated. Fun fact btw, there is no governing body over cps. No one you can call, nothing you can do, except give her the pound of flesh she wants
💙🙏☮
@@PsychGirlRaven it was most likely my fault….. is that what we are getting at here lol?
@@PsychGirlRaven Tf you getting at with your comment? If you didn't mean that offensively, your comment needs serious elaboration.
Victoria would've turned 33 this year and could've had therapy, healed and probably helped prevent tragedies like hers from happening to others. I may be speaking out if anger but none of those peole should be able to continue their practice! Outside of carrer experience they all had that intuitive feeling that something was wrong and ignored and for that I pray that if any of us are placed in a situation where we could stop/prevent someone's pain we have the courage to speak! Even if we aren't social workers.
My deepest appreciation to all the lovely people that choose this carrer because they truly have the pure heart to serve. I know it's a mentally and emotionally taxing job ❤
wtaf are you talking about? we can only do so much as individuals. no one is responsible for anyone else’s choices or life, even if they have a career involved in family safety. there is nothing any of these individuals could have done to prevent these tragedies. you are a sick & deluded individual to admit that you yourself are too weak & selfish to do this career path, but still scold them for not being ultra human beyond super heroes. you are sick. be ashamed of yourself.
Little Victoria’s story is so infuriating and represents SO MANY young voices FAILED by the system! WHY is nothing being done?!
Rest in paradise sweet little angel.
Story 5 is so sad. 🙁 May Victoria rest in peace. It's sad how kids can be failed so badly.
Thank you, to all social workers that really care, and do their job. I appreciate you.❤ Unfortunately, I had to require the services as well. I lived two years, in a domestic violence shelter. Sadly, many women return, to their abusers. Or find someone just their, former abusive mate.
I’m so proud of you for leaving. I know that was probably the hardest/best decision you’ve ever made. I hope you are safe and recovering 🖤🖤
Number 5 made me so angry and upset. So many people failed that girl so many times.
joel never disappoints.
The other stories also got to me, the first one where he couldn't save the little girl, the eye one & that poor boy. That was an extremely hard listen today xxxx
I'm a social worker getting people with disabilities back to work. Love you for making this. We've all seen some scary stuff out there.
Story 1 when you said eye ball I froze like bro whattttt
more of these and Parole Officer stories! thank you joel
Another night of brilliant
Narration 😊
Never forget that Margret Thatcher is a perpetrator in the last case. Her laissez-faire politics and gutting of social services and criminal underfunding thereof and leads to the death of Victoria and other cases of children suffering without help. Same with Ronald Raegan in the US.
If you've got substantial reason to believe that one o - a neighbor or, relative or anyone the people in your life abuse a kid, do not be afraid to confront them.
Omg as a future social worker I’m so happy you made this video 😭😭😭
Please be better than Victoria's ones. I'm so mad.
Social worker here and I knew in school I could never handle CPS. I chose clinical route and work mental health therapist with the provincial health authority and those days can be hard occasionally but nothing compared to these stories.
Poor Victoria, so many adults and systems failed her. God rest her soul.
Wow! Truly some of the greatest content on the internet. Thank you, Joel for sharing these true, horrifying tales!!!
Victoria's story is so heartbreaking and upsetting
the last story reminded me of
Gabriel ‘s case.. soo heartbreaking and useless the social workers were 😢
Rest in Peace Victoria.
Excited to listen to this one!
Thank you ❤
This was so very disturbing 😢
I googled to Victoria case, I saw the pictures, there is no way these people didn’t know she was being tortured 💔
This story has gotten me angry like I can't imagine. To everyone who failed and didn't help that girl and let this happen they should have to endure what she endured.
I did too and it broke my heart. That beautiful little girl suffered so much. How can anyone do that to a child?
Harrowing stories Joel. Thank you for delivering them in your engaging way X
As a social worker, I audibly gasped out loud when I read the title to this post 😂 I was excited nonetheless.
As a senior social work student I'm so excited to watch this
Sorry u were excited I no it was bad
Hard to listen 2 rather
Holy Hannah, that Victoria (my sister's namesake btw) story was absolutely horrid. Talk about a systemic catastrophic failure. How did the medical community escape punishment for the person who okayed "scabies" as a diagnosis without even seeing her?
I actually clapped to the we are a giant trauma counseling group and for that, Joel, I salute you. Thank you for everything you do.
These some scary story’s for sure
hearing those stories of those social workers that care so much for other people is really moving
I absolutely loved these stories! The first story's ending was particularly powerful and spoke a lot of truth. I couldn't agree more with what she said about your channel. It's really disappointing how the system fails us time and time again. We need more social workers like the lady in the first story, but unfortunately, they seem to be few and far between. It's disheartening to hear so many stories of social workers not doing their job, and some who don't even care. In my opinion, being a social worker requires having both the right mindset and heart.
Thank you for doing this. Ever since I found your channel is all I listen while I work my driving job
That second story has such a beautiful commentary at the end!!
It seems that social workers are the most unappreciated/thankles job in the world. Respect to all the social workers! ❤❤❤
Oh my God, w the tiny ones? I cried, not just tears, but with my heart 💔💔💔
recently watched a true crime video about Victoria. so i already know her case. absolutely appalling that doctor essentially signed her death warrant claiming it was scabies. it was cigarette burns all over the child, her entire scalp was shaved bald and she was forced to wear a wig when in fact the woman hurt her head herself while abusing her! eventually killing her.
that poor child. and her poor heartbroken parents. 😢❤
So heartbreaking RIP those poor innocent children
I love that you have different intros that you cycle through. The one in this video is probably my favourite though 😎 hahaha just a little intro appreciation comment 😅
Thank you Joel! Perfect timing
That final story is equally gut-wrenching and rage inducing.
That poor baby girl Victoria was failed by so many people and many involved should have been punished! There were so many opportunities to literally save her life and they dismissed what they knew was true! I pray her souls at rest ❤
I am a social worker and this video as come at a great time thanks 😊
More stories like theses please 🙏 😊😊hi from Ireland 🇮🇪 xxxx😊
Last story made me cry and angry at the same time. I wish I could put my hands on that B. That poor baby. No child deserves to be treated so badly. 😢. Rest easy little princess.
I’m just wondering how people can be suspected of abuse and have a case opened on them so many times and yet it keeps getting dismissed as if just the number of times it’s happened alone isn’t enough to indicate abuse
It's mind blowing how badly the system failed in so many ways and on so many levels. Rotten to the core, needs a complete overhaul and accountability to the ones that failed her.
Thank you Sir for a very good podcast, your narrator voice is so good too ❤️😊
Thanks Joel ❤
That last case is hard to listen to, as it should be.
Sadly I was able to predict the child's death early on as soon as I heard the mom had relocated to change jurisdictions.
Exactly what I needed after a long work day! Thanks!
This one, made my stomach hurt so bad.
Can't believe I'm saying this but the last story made me cry. My sister and I were also victims of a neglectful home 😢
Amazing stories that showcase the complexity of social work and its importance in society.
I'm fuming. How did SO many people let Victoria down? So so many chances for her to be saved but every single person failed her. All of these stories were awful, my god. But Victoria...that poor girl.
Perfect timing again!
Time to get some popcorn
Congratulations on hitting a million Joel! 🎉
This is a very interesting topic. I know many unbelievable stories from my friends who work with social services. Wow.
I’m “newer” to your channel. Only been here for a year or two. But I’m so excited to listen to this as I’m a social worker and we definitely have scary moment in this profession and it’s nice to see that covered!! Much love to your channel!!
The person in the first story handled it well, keeping calm, going along with it, not asking questions and just helping
These were really rough to listen to. Thanks for the vid Lets Read!
Cheers to the writer of story 2! I couldn't habe said it better myself. I use this channel every night to sleep. When someone I know hears about it and finds out the content they freak out and wonder how I could possible listen to such stories, they say that they'd have nightmares. But I however find it oddly comforting. No not the stories but more the survivors themselves, how people an be so vastly different and just human nature itself. But I've been thru more than my share if these traumas and yet never found the word to express why I listen to Joel outside of his amazing voice but your right this is a trauma therapy group and we all come together each night so Joel can help us all sleep to survive another day tmrw. ❤
What a terat for bedtime tonight! Thank you!

These stories had me covering my mouth in shock. Stories 2 and 5 are so sad.
More amazing stories to relax too!! Can't get enough of your videos
Hiya from NorCal! Love you CZcamsJoel!👍🤘🌹
Thanks Joel!! Love the background art. Very cool!
Story 5. Everyone failed that poor baby girl except for Priscilla
Joel never fails to lull me to sleep.
I don't think I've ever finished a video conscious, but it's a good thing. Thanking b you, Joel.
Poor Victoria. Scabies,?! Really. They failed that poor girl
shiver me timbers 🏴☠️
Arrr matey
Yar, I chipped me tooth on hardtack!
@@Unbridled-Whimsy arrrrrrrr !! ☠️☠️☠️
I came to be lulled to sleep. . . Although these stories were mind blowing, they were to heart breaking to fall asleep to.
❤❤ As always amazing but very very sad stories ❤❤
More like this please. Definitely scary, but very good--very real. This is reality for many people. Thank you to social workers for helping those in the worst situations.
Some people dont understand me but I hate house calls. You dont know what is behind those doors
You can go to school, spend years studying, have religious background, but once that lock turns there is no going back. To all the social workersI consider you heroes. Dont forget about the kids and some adults that are left behind. I have enough problems myself from the war😅
It’s sad enough when a kid dies from abuse but when it happened cause so many people time and time again completely dropped the ball and the doctors, preachers, police and cps all failed and were incompetent multiple times each
Poor Victoria. EVERYONE failed that poor girl. I can't, for the life of me, see how anyone can like these kinds of stories let alone fall asleep to Victoria's story. I hope those POS's rot in hell.
I do fall asleep to stories, but usually ones about cryptids for example. Not true stories.
I heard about Victoria before but it nevers stops to shock me what people are capable of, including, those that failed to help her because they just couldn't care enough. Poor little girl.
People do not LIKE these stories like Victoria's story. But as difficult as it is to hear, it is important these stories are heard. It would be nice though, if real change could be accomplished and laws to be changed to prevent more of this in the future.
Special place in hell for people who abuse kids and animals 😢😢😢rip sweet little girl resting in Jesus arms!!

Always good for nights
The social workers and their supervisors, who had multiple opportunities (but didn't) to intervene to save Gabriel Fernandez from being tortured and murdered, should have been included on here! RIP, sweet boy.
Loved the livestream for this one, it was so fun!
