- Japanese Whiskies are very popular, I got these two a while back, I have been meaning to talk about them. They represent very different styles, Nikka Coffey Grain, and Hibiki Japanese Harmony. Will they make a good old fashioned?

This is literally the only CZcams channel I ever comment on because I'm trying to juice the algorithm any way I can. Pete needs a bigger audience!
Thank you!! I love POSITIVE FEEDBACK!!
I bought a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain for New Year's Eve 2019, when it could still be found here in TN for $55. I went through it quickly because it's such an easy, pleasant sipper. I remember it reminding me of a shortbread-y Irish whiskey.
Yeah this is my third bottle I think, it really is easy to drink! That rhymes.
Cheers!
like liqueurs its fun exploring different styles of spirits.
totally. Its my main hobby lol
I've got a bottle of the Nikka gin and its quite lovely, with some nice citrus notes. I'll have to give the whisky a try.
Yes, the gin has a lot of yuzu in it, and its lovely. I really like the whisky!
Uncle Pete!!! This was a very nice vid!! I've never tried a Japanese whisky, and you're right, Matt is def the Irish whiskey savant!!! CHEERS to you!!!
They are generally pretty good, you should do yourself a favor and try some!
Think I was at a bar once and someone gave me a pour of the Nikka Coffey Grain and I was super surprised. I ended up buying a bottle.
People don'r usually expect grain whisky to be good, but this stuff really hits the spot. Corn rules!
Nikka from the Barrel was the only Japanese whisky I really liked.
Harmony, I thought was overpriced at $60, but that was way back pre-pandemic. It's definitely a beautiful bottle though, and is now my Infinity Bottle.
I also paid far too much for a bottle of Yamazaki 12. None of my friends or family care for it either, so it may outlive me or end up in cocktails
Wow Yamazaki 12 is a favorite of mine, different strokes for different folks! I bet your infinity bottle is interesting!
Looking up local availability while watching and I see the Nikka is available at over 1/3off usual price. Very tempting.
Oh thats a buy! I think you'd love it!
A bitters drawer. Intresting.
Essential I'd say!
I have more of a shelf. but for more frequent used ones that is a good idea. @@UnclePete
For folks of a certain age, Suntory=Lost In Translation: Bill Murray's weary reluctance off the scale, forlornly sat with clips holding the back of his oversize tuxedo jacket in. Indelible.
I justed watched that again on Netflix! great movie
FIRST?!?!?===========>SOLID gold, not plated.....
LOL
Toki is the only Japanese whiskey I've tried, and it was pleasant enough.
It will be nice in ten years when the supply gets closer to meeting demand, and the prices get less insane.
Until then, there are far too many great Irish, Indian, and American whiskeys sitting on shelves at half the price for me to be too tempted by the hype of Japanese whiskey.
That’s a fair point. There are also do many Japanese whiskeys out there now I can’t tell the good from the bad
