  • In this week's motorhome life video we visit the Spanish region of Galicia which is the single most recommended areas of Spain. But why? Find out what we think of the area and see why we are left a little confused as to what all the fuse is about.

The coast line looks great, imo... Blue skies are overrated. The shot with the storm on the water looks amazing, very dramatic. It added the mood and the scale of the pending weather. A blue sky there would have been a very flat picture but with the storm it has so many layers. 👏🤘

The coastline was stunning Kat. We definitely took the wrong route through Galicia. We should have taken the coastal route and just got wet. 🤣

When you stated in your video that you had failed to do justice to the beauty of Galicia, you don't realize how much of an understatement that was. The feeling I got in watching this video was that you were rushing to get through Galicia. You go from a nondescript beach all the way to the border between Galicia and Portugal on the Miño River showing virtually nothing in between. Galicia has so many historical sites such as the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela, the roman walls of Lugo, the old centers of A Coruña, Ferrol, Pontevedra, & Ourense, as well as the coastal scenery of the Rias Altas, Rias Baixas, Costa da Morte, and the beautiful interior mountains like the Serra do Ancares, Serra do Courel, Serra do Invernadeiro and the scenery of the Ribeira Sacra with its river cliffs along the Sil and Miño rivers. There was so much that could have been shown to viewers and instead this region seems to have gotten the bums rush. Unfortunately, the same could be said for your video on Asturias as well as Burgos. They are a far cry from the videos you used to put out when you lived in the Valencian Community. Your videos covering Valencia, Alicante, Bocairent, & Chelva among others were such a joy to watch and I eagerly looked forward to your weekly videos. Please give the subjects of your filming the more complete coverage they are due.

      Hi,
We did indeed rush through both areas, for a number of reasons. Mainly because of the dreadful weather. It's very difficult to record in the rain. We have a deadline to be back in the Valencia region by August, so can't afford to wait the 2 weeks for the bad weather to clear, to see places. Also, when we recorded the videos in the Valencian region, we only had to worry about parking an estate car, now we have to find space for a 7.4m motorhome, which is not easy. A lot of places who have spaces large enough, also have a height restriction, which rules us out. We have had subscribers give us recommendations for places to visit and will check your suggestions out as well. Be assured we fully intend to visit both Asturias and Galicia again, in months of expected better weather. Once we get back to Valencia, we have the first Annual Inspection on our motorhome, then we get 2 years before the next one is due. That will allow us much more travelling time to hang around places for longer and go further afield.
      Thanks for your comment.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

@@findingxanadulife The pitfalls of buying & maintaining a vehicle in Spain, eh? We bought a second hand car in Valencia, naively thinking it'd be a simple process to transfer it to Andalucia when we sold our place on the Costa Blanca & bought one near Granada. The Spanish system is far more devolved to the local level than the UK one & on reflection, I wish we hadn't bothered & just waited until we'd made the move to Spain full-time. Still...you live & learn. How do you get on with Schengen restrictions when you go between Spain & Portugal as UK passport holders? I'm assuming you've got Spanish residencia but how does that work with the Schengen rules when you leave Spain? (Great vid as ever by the way.)

Great Yarmouth with sun, no wonder it's so renowned 😂
It does seem like the places you're lead to believe are the best all too often raise expectations that, in a way, can never be met when you’ve seen so much beauty elsewhere, often out of the blue. And of course travelling around will inevitably lead to a few disappointments or something that's not right for you. How unfortunate we are exploring all the time and not being 100% wowed by everything 🤣 But it's just the way it goes!
It sounds like Galicia is a big area though and you happened to hit at the wrong time with the weather and missed the better places, but hey, good reason to go back!
For what it's worth it looked beautiful, we love rocky coastlines like that, fabulous views and that storm coming in over the water looked immense 😍
At least you got some jobs done in the rain. Looking forward to Portugal and hope you've had some sunshine by now!
    Take care guys ❤🤟 xx

      Hey guys,
We liked Galicia, just didn't feel it was any better than the other regions that we had visited along northern Spain. The coastlines all around were amazing though. I (Alison) could spend days just wandering along beaches and nosing in rock pools. We definitely want to go back and make the most of them. The sea was fairly rough though, especially along the Bay of Biscay. Not great for swimming, but hey ho.
We're loving Portugal though. Spoiler alert, the places we visit in next week's video, set the bar pretty high for the rest of the country...
Safe travels and much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

I have been in Galicia during the summer, west coast.
Very green, still quite some rain.
But the coast up from Portugal towards France is very beautiful.
Beaches quite dangerous (currents) but spectacular views from higher up.
Some nice Islands to visit as well

      Hi Towah,
We loved the coastal regions. The ocean has been very rough, so we haven't been in yet. It's definitely more for surfers than swimmers. We're hoping to see more in the future in Portugal. We're glad that you liked the video. 😬

yes, you were missing a LOT. Costa da Morte, Camino dos Faros, Ribeira Sacra, Carnota, Santiago, Lugo, Malpica, Pontevedra, Fisterra, Muxía. You did not get it. Yes, rain is frequent in Galicia, that is why it is so green, it will never have droughts, storms are frequent, that is part of Galicias soul: braving the storms and growing millions of small flowers between the lichen-covered rocks in spring. The different sounds of water. The cries of the seagulls. Celtic and christian heritage. Monasteries like Oseira, Sobrado dos Monxes, Samos. Stunning beaches. Glowing sunsets at the Atlantic. Horreos. Hydrangeas. Weathered faces. Connecting with amazing people. The food. I guess your expectations were wrong. Galicia is closer to the west coast of Ireland, Scotland, Bretagne than the Mediterranean Spain. Maybe Motorhome travel is keeping you from experiencing Galicia, walking it can help.

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  Před měsícem

We will look at all of your recommendations and maybe plan to visit next time round. We weren't told WHY Galicia was so amazing, just that it was, so we didn't know what to look for. You do make it sound magical. The Celtic side we saw and enjoyed. We will know what to expect next time and try to visit when the rain is a little easier. It's very difficult to record a video when the camera lens is constantly covered in water droplets.
Thank-you so much for your comment,
