Glad you done a review on this. Iâm after a bag to start some walks. Have been eyeing this one up.
I've been using an Exos 58 ever since I bought mine in 2010. It's a really good backpack for anything from overnights to week-long trips. I've carried up to 34 lbs in it for long trips and it has worked great. Like you, I appreciate the mesh system that keeps the bag off your back. It's not ultralight, but it's much lighter than packs I used years ago. I would consider updating to a new one because the waist belts look like they may be improved, but it also looks like at some point they dropped one of my favorite features of the Exos. Mine has two long vertical zippers on the front the of the pack body along each side of the center stretch pocket. Those give access to two internal expandable compartments that give you the option of dividing the main bag into up to three compartments. When you use them, the size of the main compartment is reduced some, but you get fast access to more items if you want without having to unbuckle the top pocket and dig through the pack. I use that feature a lot and would miss that. I like the size of the 58. I recently went on a 6-day hike and easily fit all my gear including a three-person tent and my sleeping pad inside the pack. Nothing had to be strapped to the outside. I also like that a large bear cannister fits in the main compartment laying on its side which makes for better packing of the main compartment than in a pack where you can only fit one in upright.
Agree!!! got the Exos 58, 2022 model, it's solid!!!
Excellent review. I've been trying to decide between the Osprey Exos and the Gregory Focal, and you helped to confirm my decision to go with Osprey.
Yes Dazey, it's been a while like. Glad to here there'll be more reviews coming. Love the Osprey bags, I have the Rook 65 and just love it. I like your new Hat BTW đ
Love a a good backpack I usually stick to surplus packs so itâs interesting to see these hiking packs properly! Awesome vid as always hazy! đ
It's a really well thought out bag by Osprey, especially with the adjustable back, probably THE ultimate backpack. Good video mate đ
I've got the Osprey Kestrel 48 and used it for the Pennine Way and a section of the Cleveland Way. It's a tough bag that you can rag about, but the Exos looks a bit lighter. Tempted to get it when I do the coast to coast next year. Really helpful video.
Iâve got the Osprey stratos 36 I absolutely love it !
Iâve done a few overnight camps in the peaks but I struggle to fit my tent in the bag and have it strapped on outside.
This could be an upgrade I need đđ»
I bought the Exso 58 to do the Cape Wrath in September and I loved it, No issues at all.
Iâd recommend it for sure
I just picked this up for ÂŁ91 pound in go outdoors. It was in the reduced bin in their bag section. Worth keeping an eye out if your in the market for one. Also you need the membership card
Really appreciated a good comprehensive review, look forward to more Out Door Daze ATB
Great review Uncle Hazo, excited for more of the same!
Good review mate. Iâve recently bought the Sierra Designs flex capacitor 40-60, itâs a cracking bag. đ
I've literally just picked this bag up a couple of hours ago, and then see this review! It looks like I've made the right choice. I have the talon 33 for summer use, but looking forward to using this for the winter!
I have the Exos 38 as my "main" bag. I've used it throughout summer and winter. It's the old version that doesn't have any hip pockets at all, and I really disliked it at first because of that, but I bought the super lightweight osprey bum bag, and realised it actually works better for me in that configuration. There's the obvious ability to not take it, but now I can use just the bum bag when I'm walking around or going on a hike, and it comes inside the tent at night with the floating lid and that's where I put everything I might need meaning I can leave the main bag in the vestibule.
Love the osprey changed out to one last minute for the WHW all it needs is side rocket pouches like a Bergen - would then be perfect keep up the good work!
The new set up is looking *chefs kiss*
I got 58 Exos Grey and love it. Just came back from Berwick Coastal Path to Dunbar and was perfect, 15kg at times with full water etc, no problem, the most comfortable rucksack Ive ever had.
I also attached one shoulder pocket from 3ful for snickers bars, redbull or other snacks fits awesome on that pack.
I've just got myself one of these (58 in grey) and looking forward to using it. Shoulder pocket addition sounds a good idea.
Wise words on finding the right gear. Iâm sticking with Exos 58 mark 2 but summer itâs the controversial levity
Airflow makes it a winner, plus the adjustable back too, near perfect backpack đ
Yep I have the osprey Atmos 65 and I'm keeping it
I'm thinking of getting a spare
Thank You!
I have the G4-20 yes it is a bit sweaty but I swapped the support pad it comes with for the 1/8 inch foam pad and it was a lot better and saved weight as well.
Very helpful, thanks Hazeeey Agree so much comfort v weight of a few grams Had a few too many QC issues with Osprey and a saggy bottom and not great customer service experiences
Hey Haze, great review as always. I am tempted by this new model. Currently using and abusing the previous ugly brother one without the hip pockets. It's done me proud for 1000's of miles but yeah I do miss 'um. Basically bought extra strap-on phone pouches etc which I do recommend but whatever. Sounds like you really only get on with framed backpacks instead of the ultralight frameless. I think we do this side of the pond in general. Saying that, I was just wondering if you can try an Atom pack? Ultralight but built in the Lake District. Surely you can get a hookup!? Peace out keep on trekking x
Great review and you are correct it about function not always grams.
Oh man I've been wanting to buy this bag. It's been on my list since they announced the new one, but my old Osprey isn't worn out enough yet!
Tempted mate but I'm gonna stick with my old Osprey for a year or two more!
I use it for woodland camps and hiking it works great for both đ
Enjoyable review Ta!
I put off getting an Osprey for years , cost mostly , but last year I got a Talon 33 , itâs the only bag Iâve ever had that when you pick it up to check the weight you think , bugger , but when itâs on ,you would think it had half the load in it. Comfort all day long .
Comfort is king on the long hikes mate
Great review got the old 38l definitely hugs to ya body!! The 48l 2022 bag is at go outdoors at moment ÂŁ91 plus ÂŁ5 clubcard just bought it in grey đđ»
Got the 2022 Atmos AG 65. Love it.
Used this straight out of bag for C2C, was mint
Lovin the jumper mate
Cool stuff cheers dude
I have used an Osprey Aether 70 since 2011. Unfortunately my version does not have the hip pockets. Otherwise I love the bag. It is a little large at times, but most of my backpacking until recently was with Boy Scouts and adults usually need to carry extra gear. Osprey makes great bags. My day pack is an Osprey also. Can't go wrong with them.
I have the Osprey Either 70 pack and I am thinking of the Exos 58 to cut the weight in half, over 3 lbs lighter. Also being 12 liters smaller will prevent me from bringing the unnecessaries along. Still can't see me going the ultra light way as comfort is more important than gram savings. Happy to hear commenters rave the 58 liter version too.
The amount of water weight saved with the osprey beats the lighter weight of the gossamer gear. You have to carry more water to counteract the back sweat ;)
So professional like a young David Dickinson đ€Ł Peace n love tho I like this channel as a added extra đđ€
I've bought the grey version of yours, I wish the side compression straps ran under rather than over the side pockets and I wish it came with shoulder strap pockets for bottles and phones etc...
I've replaced an Ultralight (ish) bag with it also coming from a Granite Gear Crown 60 which I used on my 2023 C2C both from Ultralight outdoor gear in Wynyard so big shout out to them!
Love my Exos 48 (the version without the hip pockets)
But so comfortable and you can walk all day and don't notice the weight too much.
Me too. I have some Zpack hip pockets attached and it is now utterly perfect. I bought the new version and sent it back... it isnt as good, its heavier, the top box doesnt come off as easy and the airspeed suspension isnt as taut as our one.... We definitely got the best :)
@@davidcressey do you have a link?
bought osprey exos 55 because of this review, love it! :D the only problem i encountered was side pocket straps, they made hard to take my watter bottles out(need to keep them lose)
I'm on the Helikon Summit 42L at the moment. Thourght about the 3fUL packs but i NEED some back padding built in. So far loving it and it comes in some proper england forest colours. ÂŁ120 1.2kg
I love my Aether, and that squeak you mention makes me laugh when it kicks in and then disappears, great kit and yeah why did they ditch the hip pouches? Glad theyâre back!
Itâs the halloumi of backpacks
@@OutdoorDaze ha! Yep!
I bought the Montane trailblazer 44 a month or so ago.. same same sweaty back tackle. My mate got the osprey. Looks like I'm spending 150 on another backpack. Cheers for twisting my arm pal đ
Thereâs nothing like a good gear review & this is nothing like a good gear review đ
Joking!!!! I love your reviews, Paul đ Fair to say this is a 48litre Atmos or the Atmos is a 65litre Exos?
I love my Atmos for same reasons you love the Exos & as you said the squeak comes and goes with a jiggle of the setup & I itâs usually because Iâve twisted the pack.
Watched this and thought sod that, if a bloody landscape gardener has the new pack then surely a timber craftsman like myself should also have one. Got one and its way better than my old no hip pockets one, apart from the colourđ loved the green, not too keen on the blue. Top review even though you are a posh paverđ
I have just got the Ospey Exos Pro 55L.... Its much much better. Its basically the love child of the the Osprey Exos 48 and Osprey Levity 60L... It fits amazingly, carries load as well as the Exos and though it does have an internal pocket in the top box the external one is huuuuge. Definitely worth looking at if you're interested in any more long distance hikes
It looks promising, however there is no left-hand hip pocket zipper (bummer), there are no sleeping pad straps, there are no trekking pole attachments. I could live with only one top pocket though. And there is no front stretch mesh buckle to secure you gear. The harness net is also much lighter and there is less padding. Thus I will stick with Exos 48 for these reasons.
Osprey Levity is majorly slept on imo
Love ya work Hazey, but hey brov, I have cut my teeth on a glissarde 75ltr bomb proof macpac back pack , ha ha that sounds funky, and I've bush bashed my own tracks walking backwards into the thick scrub of the Tassie bush from Down Under and nothing else comes close to being as tough as nails !
Go outdoors were selling them for about ÂŁ92.00 very recently, the exos 48
I'd have bought the 2022 version IF it had the old full stretch mesh and not the new mesh with material. So I bought the Atom Packs Mo50 custom.
That was good thank you, I much prefer a review based on some experience rather than the out of the box reviews. Back in April you were testing your copper spur and you had a green osprey pack, what was that please and is it worthy of a review? Cheers mate, ramble onđ
It's worth noting that if you are in the market for an Osprey pack, and I've never used anything as comfortable, they offer a 40% discount to members of Mountaineering Scotland (formerly the mountaineering council of Scotland). Membership is ÂŁ38 per annum (various concessions available) so you'll save 30 quid on an Exos 48 or you'll save the best part of a one way ticket to Nepal if you buy an Aether pro 70 and all the while you'll be helping support the cause of access and conservation in the Scottish hills. Happy trails everybody.
I went to get the exos last year was gutted that they didn't have hipbelt pockets so I didn't get 1 and went for the kestrel instead.but they airspace system isn't great in summer but find it ok in winter as it keeps you warm.i might get the 2022 version next year.
Itâs a quality bag mate. I recommend it
Your green one is the old old model. There was one in between that and the new 2022 model. You can tell the difference as it has the same logo as the new model, but has no hip pockets.
And the exos 58 in long is actually 61 litres and all at 1300 odd grams !!!!
Nice one Hazy do you have the S/M or L XL?
Atb Graham
Great video, thanks! Do you find 48 big enough for winter? I'm tempted to get the 58l just to make sure I've got enough room.
I'd say 58L is the better choice if you are carrying crampons and ice axe etc.
Atom packs all the way our kid. made in Cumbria too
How are the strechy materials on the old model, do they last or are they stretched out and not useful anymore?
Kestrel 48 for me! Like you say is lighter better?
How do you fit in everything in a small bag? Tbh I think my sleeping bag is too big but I donât know what to replace it with. Iâm struggling to fit everything in a 50l bag.
I still wish Osprey did the Aether 70, at the moment Iâm looking at the Kestrel 68 and Atmos 65, I donât like to compromise on comfort heading into winter months đ the extra weight is worth it to me
Iâve got the Atmos 65 and itâs superb. Very comfortable and uses witchcraft to reduce the sense of weight in the bag on your back.
If it makes you feel any better I've had the Aether 70 for years and the back ventilation is pretty shit
@@plwadodveeefdv funnily enough I recently bought a Lowe Alpine Sirac 65 and a Manaslu 65:80 from the Rab outlet, love the features on those and should do me for winter, considering a Talon 33 as a daypack now though days are about to get shorter.
Mr Haze Iâm from Tenby in wales
Me and my brother are doing the tour de Mont Blanc in September ..
Quick question
I own an 48 and also the new 3FUL quidian pro
I love both packs
Which one would you take ?
Hi Haze, is that the size l/xl ? Thanks.
I thought the Exos had an access/compartment at the a**e end for the tent (or in my case, camera kit) - seems I thought wrong... đ€
First like. GET IN!
đ«Ą
Literally last night just started researching Osprey Exos backpacks to replace my leaky old Berghaus . How did you know this?....Spooky.
âTit sweatâthatâs a new word my 10 year olds going to teach his mates at school tomorrow đ
These new ones have the compression straps outside water bottle pockets and no way to run them inside
They should make this in a rolltop 100%
A bit unfair to compare a frameless pack with a framed one. Of course the Osprey carries weight better. I too have both. The G4-20 is great in cooler weather on short trips and/or low weight. For summer and heavier loads, the exos is great.
I'm come to prefer top loading roll top closures, and fewer pockets, but each to their own.
The only thing that puts me off this bag is the stretch pockets. Eventually they'll get torn to shreds and they are very hard to recycle properly..I much prefer non mesh outer pockets. They last longer and you don't need to baby them or be afraid that what you put in them might tear something. To be honest it's just manufacturers lazily cutting grams. If decathlon can do it at an even lower weight with their mt900 UL rucksack, I don't see why osprey can't.
Just got it for 100... half an hour after getting back from a successful test drive of a bag I paid for in November...
Isnât sweaty back a song by justin trousersnake? Lolđ
Great video and review! New follower here. I am not a fan of Osprey. I find them too heavy. But, they have amazing space, options, and are super comfortable. But, Zpacks, and HMG packs are just so much lighter...but they are expensive. But, Ospreys are great packs.
What's the best non - lightweight that ain't going to fall to bits after a year?
If you dont mind sacrificing comfort, and want something that is almost bombproof then a Berghaus centurio or the Karimoor sf sabre is the way to go.
Had both the Centurio and the Sabre 45. For me the Sabre is the better option as the yolk is a bit wider and you can use old issue side pouches on it.
Hi, size s/m?
This is only ÂŁ83 delivered from Ultimate Outdoors at the moment - be quick!!!
The reason I've not pulled the trigger on this is because every osprey I've had has SQUEAKED!!! Sold them all because of that. So if I buy this one and it squeaks then I'm holding YOU personally responsible hazy and I'm unsubbing đ
Lmao
Same. Plus I think they're totally overpriced.
@@Adventures_with_Sog the secret is to buy one used in rough condition for CHEAP, use the lifetime warranty and get a fresh pack. Thatâs the reason theyâre priced higher
The squeak is motivational. I superimpose "left, right, left, right ..." onto the squeaky sounds and that keeps me going.
â@@robertestrada9643 I have one and it squeals I'm fed up of it and I might send it back after two years it's worse
Do love Osprey packs .. have a Talon (?) 34, Exos 48 and Aether (?) 65 knocking around, depending how much junk I fancy wandering around with. I do like a Wild Sky - sweaty tits pack in the colder months though.
First
Also..
Have you ever had any Osprey moulded for your hips (don't lie)?
Hey Haze...
What's up.......
Get a sense of sadness
Are you OK??
Eddy
Never been better. Im doing a bag review video mate, itâs not really a time for bants
He probably is heartbroken after that girl from last videos. Poor guy.
Who here has the highest mileage Exos?
Mate did you climb into the bedroom window of a teenage Gil? Purple? Candles and mushrooms? đ„Ž
First
Joint first is still first
It's made out of nylon? And it weighs three times as much as my bag? For $240? No thanks.
Too heavy.
I've just got back from a 3 dayer in the soaking wet lakes. Bought the tungsten grey version of this for my trip.
Absolutely love it. I mistakenly purchased the S/M version and being 6ft 3" I thought I'd struggle, but it was perfect.
Can't believe how much gear I managed to fit in it and how easy it was to keep swinging it on and off my back.
Went hip deep in a massive bog myrtle too, which was fun.
I was so pissed at Osprey my 48 was done left to buy one with no pockets or change, my change was upwards, bought a Atmos 65 then out comes the 48 with pockets, it may seem stupid but I was pissed. No cash to buy the new one, so selling old and spare gear, totally pissed off.
