Their commander and a few of their higher-ups came over to tour our unit and stopped by my section. The commander himself told me that I had a well organized area and was impressed. There is nothing can do. It is mandatory for the country to serve in the military. Because Korea has enemies everywhere, it has to serve in the military to protect its own country. In fact, even though the United States and the Soviet Union had to split Japan in half instead of the Korean Peninsula, the aftermath of World War II went to Korea. New K2C1 rifles have replaced K2s a few years ago from what I heard(at least in the front area). The original K2s are being pushed to the rear replacing the remaining m16a1s there. (K2C1s are basically K2s with picatinny rails and adjustable stock)
At 7:59 in the video, you said that the army is divided into 3 components. That may be right 3 years ago. Currently the army is divided into 2 groups; 1st Ground Command defending the DMZ and 2nd Ground Command managing the rest of peninsula.

Not only K-pop stars but all Korean men are citizens and well-trained soldiers. In fact, a random, random draft in the middle of town can form a nearly perfect infantry unit in an hour. Not all Korean men are the best warriors, but basically they are basic soldiers who can handle AR-related rifles naturally and fire precisely with them. And within 24 hours, you can organize a tank pilot and various heavy weapon specialized soldiers. This is really possible.

There were violent riots in Los Angeles, California during the 1990's. During the riots, our police were defending rich people, and allowing the rest of the city to fall into chaos. Your people were abandoned. The Korean section of town formed a strong militia to defend businesses against thugs. You fortified rooftops and sent squads on rescue missions. And as an weeb I have read several manhwas. 50% of the time MC was guy who finished his "basic training". I never gave this info any real or historical weight(in manga you want your MC to be as likable as he can be, and I went with same mindset towards manhwa). I would never realized how real this was, I would just brush it off as another thing that makes MC popular and likable. During the Vietnam War, South Korean soldiers were the record holders for their ability to massacre unarmed women and children. It is estimated that of the 2 million civilians killed in the Vietnam War, 200 thousand (accounting for 10% of the civilian deaths) were the achievements of South Korean soldiers.
Want to know more about other famous feats of the South Korean army, you can learn about Jeju uprising (the reason why the North Korean leader decided to attack South Korea), Bodo League massacre, Ganghwa massacre, Goyang Geumjeong Cave massacre...

When a VC company came to the village, they brainwashed villagers like Vietnam was invaded and we should liberate the South or something. Sometime they forced villager to join their force too.
If these VC had been so brave, why would have they dressed as a villager and sneaky attack on Korean, American and South Vietnamese force at the midnight? Why don't you fight at front?

Literally war torn and having next to nothing, relying extremely heavily on external aid in the 1960s to having the 6th most powerful military presence right now and successfully making their own 4.5 gen supersonic fighter jet (although this is with Lockheed Martin iirc so definitely not entirely domestic - this is why the KF-21 Boramae looks so similar to the F-22 Raptor which was also designed by Lockheed Martin). To tell the truth, until now, a few retired ex-KPOP idols or Korean entertainers used to enter military service such as Marine, Ranger, and SF soldiers in the Korean army these days. But not all entertainers & K-POP artists entered the Korean army as SF troopers. South Korea's social vibes are so strict that all POP stars & famous entertainers should join their army service and it does not have any exceptional ones.
Some two or three guys once wanted to be exempted unofficially from their military service but all of them were perfectly fucked up at the time. Because most raging Korean citizens wanted to punish all those guys, so they had to join military service instead of being prisoners. Recently, the famous K-POP artist BTS boys began to enter their military service, and the senior member Jin's role is to be an instructor to educate other trainee soldiers in his division.

If anybody wants a visceral look at the horrors of the Korean war, watch a film called The Front Line (2011) it's one of the greatest war films I've ever seen and can stand amongst legendary films like Saving Private Ryan and others. In fact, it's that good, that I think the only films it doesn't surpass are that and All Quiet... But let's not debate the subjective nature of that.
It really is an awesome film, that follows a Lt. who is tasked with finding a supposed traitor. Instead, he gets drawn into monotonous human wave attacks with huge amounts of death, and it makes you realise how massive that war actually was. Bigger than Afghan, Nam, and The current Ukraine one. Yet we don't really talk about it.
The special effects are absolutely top notch, no expense has been spared, and I look forward to watching this again.
