  • Hey guys! I'm back with ANOTHER video about the realities of being a UX designer. I can't count how many times I say the word 'snacks' in this one, but I was just so shocked by how many times I get asked this question.

This is so informative. A lot of content creators glamorize working in tech seemingly to mask the hardships that they go through

I was watching similar video from the others. I always wondered how much of the work they get done.
It's good that someone decide to talk about this. It feels like some of these people just abuse the benefits of what the company offer.

Glad you enjoyed the video - hopefully more people will make similar ones talking about their *realistic* experiences!

I hear so much frustration in your voice, and it's totally valid. Thank you so much for bringing this up! I see these questions about snacks and fancy offices as childish and inconsiderate. Like how on earth after all these lay offs and recession people are only interested in such superficial and dumb things, only suitable for social media?? How infantile they are to think only about the appearance, the prestige and belive in the company's promises of a glam life? If it's true to the vast majority of UX newcomers, I think we're doomed.

Very frustrated! Simply because I want to help people get into the field but they are focused on the wrong things! Hoping the this video reaches the right people :)

I want to switch into UX/Product Design cause the work interests me and I personally hate low time, but snacks would be an added bonus coming from work environment that did not have snacks 😂

Are the areas you chose within UX field more stable within the UX job market? They seem like broad areas where you are deep in the mechanics instead of designing the UI top skin. What are your thoughts on that? Great video and very informative....and I'm not in it for the snacks either! :)

Great question! I don't claim to be an expert on the job market, but I would say that the deeper you are involved with the mechanics the more difficult it is to be replaced (onboarding new UXers can be really difficult). I think that's why there are a lot more freelance jobs for UI designers and in-house jobs for UX designers. However, I chose this type of UX job because the strategy, decision making, and problem solving were much more appealing to me than UI - my visual design is not very good (but I'm working on it!). UI is integrated into my job, but we have a design system so I'm not doing UI from scratch - just with existing components.
Stability is also rooted in the company you choose, which may be more important than job title itself. So definitely do your research!

This all helps Morgan, which is why I'm going through all your videos. At moments, I feel a bit lost on where my focus should be within the field since it is pretty broad... that's why I watch and read whatever I can on UX. I remember this thing a guy told me and it totally reflects what you said. Get your fingers into as many things as possible...don't be one dimensional....this way you are invaluable to the company on multiple levels and irreplaceable! Sorry for the long dialogue, but I'm really excited about the career pivot! :) @@MorganUX

It's so awesome to hear how excited you are!!! It is much easier (and in my opinion, more efficient) to start as a generalist and then go down a specialization path AFTER getting some work experience. But when you're just starting out, be open to everything!
