- Follow the lead card through the front-side of Delaveaga disc golf course in Santa Cruz, CA for Round 2 of the 2017 Masters Cup Presented by Innova. Leading the field with a record-setting -15 is Paul McBeth who is joined by Chris Watson (-8), Nate Doss (-7), and Manabu Kajiyama (-7).

I like hearing about the hole, and it's subtle nuances, before everyone throws. But don't spoon feed me every single detail like im listening to this on the radio!! Ian good job, Avery I'm looking at you.

All the negative comments on Avery... I'll say this: I tried watching with my volume muted... it really gave me an appreciation for the work of the commentators. Try it some time and imagine what you'd say... appreciable social effluence isn't easy to create. Avery and Ian and all the other commentators from all the teams really do great work and I'm grateful for all of their efforts... thanks guys!

Avery is a great dude, and this video is his best commentary. He was relaxed and had good dialogue with Ian. Maybe Ian is his key to good commentary.
I can see why some people usually don't like his commentary, but this time he's excellent. He seems to know the course really well.
lol I'm sure he read some comments from the konopiste videos and decided to hold off on some of his schtik and erroneous historical tidbits
Avery, much improved commentary this time I would say. A lot more interesting and less cliche. Thanks for the coverage and insight.
As much flak as Avery gets for his commentating, he paired up really well with Ian in this video. Ian, who is a true fan of the game, was able to bring out the player side of Avery and got a lot of insightful commentary from him. In past videos, Avery is usually playing more of the commentator roll as he tries to keep the dialogue going when he is paired with Jamie or another disc golfer. Ian did a great job of taking over what Avery usually does and let Avery talk about what he knows best.
I admit that I'm guilty of not being a huge fan of his commentary in the not-so-distant past, but this is definitely the best commentary I've heard from Avery ever - It just sounded like he felt a lot more comfortable in general, and the back and forth between him and Ian was excellent
Ian is a great balancing factor to counter Avery's aggressive commentating style. Great choice from SpinTV

This Ian-Avery commentary was really good IMO. Ian is so conversational and he really made Avery loosen up a bit instead of doing that stiff robotic style he does for DGWT. I loved the commentary today, it was excellent

I know everyone wants to bash on Avery but you all have to remember that this media, Disc Golf media, is still in the infancy stages. It has come a LONG way since 4 or 5 years since I started watching these videos and also much farther since people started filming disc golf. These guys really don't make a bunch of money doing this for us. I wasn't a fan of Avery's commentary and he does mess up a lot but I honestly think that in this video he was WAY better than previously. Its hard to grass roots get something like this going and these guys are doing it because they love the game that much and they know we do to. I say don't give up Avery, you're getting better at it man. Just relax and talk about the sport we all love.

First thought: "Is that Avery? Oh god, that's Avery. Ugh." hahaha. 3 min in though, I think this round with Ian will go much more smoothly than when Avery and Simon commentated for the Konopiště.
Just putting in my 2 cents in hopes Spin takes the comments into account. Regardless, really looking forward to watching this round.
After watching, that was great. With Ian there, Avery didn't get on my nerves at all. And I thought of something nice to say about his commentary- I really like the information he throws out. He talked about how the climate was a little wet and caused some of those trees to fall on this course, and I remember at Konopiště he talked about a little history of the castle.
Also... dang, Paul.
I gotta say, with Ian backing Avery, the commentary is better for sure. It seems that Ian can interject with enough of his own dialogue that it makes up for Avery's awkwardness.

@the spinTV Have you ever considered combining CCDG and Spin? It's clear from the comments that people enjoy the combo commentary quite a bit (although i never felt like there was any issue with either of your individual coverage).
Obviously if the channels were to combine it would eliminate the ability to cover 2 different tournaments but, I would love to see double the coverage of a single event. Well i don't actually film any disc golf so i will avoid giving "advice" but just in my mind having drone footage in combo with the tee cam and basket cam seems nice. Actually now that i think about it flying a drone while people are throwing doesn't seem like it would be allowed or be polite.
any way, as a general (related) question what do you use to shoot the tournaments? two people or more? dslr's or dedicated video cams?

Call me immature, but I couldn't stop laughing at Hole 11 when they were talking about calling their moms and making it in in the 11th hole.
Gave the sound/ commentary a chance midround. 20 secs and i had to mute again! And now i go from stressed to a bit angry. This is bad Innova, and my respect for you is dropping.

I know everyone knows this, but Paul McBeth is really good.
I think with Ian being used to doing most of the commentating he takes alot of the pressure off of Avery, who I think feels like he has to fill any silence there is. And it helps he's actually interactive. People like Simon only work with someone like eagle cause they're best friends. But when it's with Avery the chemistry isn't as present so Avery feels the need to fill it in with play by play dialogue. Ian will actually carry a conversation and naturally is easy to talk to.
Avery played better off Ian than most of his previous co-commentators. Wasn't nearly as bad as normal.

I don't have a problem with Avery commentary its just not my style. I would however like it more if he played in said event. Personally I like commentary from someone on the card being covered. I've noticed they not only give insight on the hole but they also explain how and why they threw the hole the way they did, and also make fun of themselves in the process if it was bad.
I also REALLY like it when top level players give other top level players props (especially when they're mortal enemies to the eye of the fans). Listening to Nate, Paul, Simon Etc... talk about how inhuman Ricky can be at times just shows me the respect they have for one another. That was just an example because Rick is an easy example to use.
Nikko literally laughed under his breath in a video he was doing commentary in because Ricky kept hitting 50+ footers and he said "Here's Rick with another tap in" as he was lining up another one, I geeked out lol.
That's just my two cents, I don't think you get that with Avery, considering he doesn't play that much anymore. I think he'll get better tho. Just not my cup of tea.

I think it was a Harp as well, but I don't know if I would fault somebody for calling it a mid ... it's a speed 4 like for example the Roc. It's basically a slow midrange

Jamie, please address the literally HUNDREDS of comments about Avery's commentary and it's continuation. It could not be more blatantly obvious how much his addition to the team is not well received. You seem to have a reason for keeping him around. Did he buy into your company? Please explain why he is still around and put this to rest.
Had to mute the sound early on hole 1. I`m getting stressed by hearing the commentary. Maybe its only me, but I like less, more relaxed and enjoyful commentary to match the great video!
