I just realized one thing unique about your videos -- you provide closure for the audience. Something many CZcamsrs fail to do. For instance, you go to the park and it was not as you expected so you decided to return to the park the next day to record footage of it to see if the park has changed. That's really satisfying for the audience to see. Well done!
12:22 It's great to see the Fuxing Park twice in the video and watch Amy dancing with locals!
I am currently going through chemotherapy to treat cancer and your videos have helped so much when I'm feeling sick. Thanks for making so many amazing videos ❤️
Edit: thanks so much for all the sweet messages it means the world to me
Hi! Wish u getting better!❤

His words during the proposal were so touching ☺️ Congratulations to them
I was crying behind the camera! hahah so sweet!
Jasmine complements Amy so well -- the shared sense of humor and depth of knowledge in the food.
Thanks Amy for history snippet of Shanghai Longtong vs Beijing Hutong.

Amy, you are single handedly educating me of my heritage, and thank you for that. My Heritage is mostly Chinese, born in Malaysia and migrated to Oz when I was very young. Every time I visit China I am just in awe of the history of the place. Keep up the good work! and the two of you are magic together.
I am a Chinese living in China, and Amy still knows more about China than I do. XD
I think Malaysian Chinese culture and China's culture and regional cultures are still quite different, especially our system. If you have lived in China, there is a certain aspect of communism.
I still remember my primary school text book in the Chinese school system. Some of the text are about as communist as it gets like 'Lenin' for instance and 'The Great March', others are about famous Chinese writers like Lu Xun. Some of my childhood Chinese TV Programms are Monkey Magic and Feng Sheng Bang. There are a lot of foreign dubbed TV programs like Transformers, Ninja Turtles, DoraAmon and some other animes. There are also TV programs from Taiwan like Qiong Yao series etc. So it's a very interesting combo.
From my perspective, Malaysian Chinese has preserved some regional culture from Canton, Min district and Hakka. They came to Malaysia back in the 19th Century. Therefore in some aspects, it's a little dated (in my opinion), which I find it very exotic as well.
But then again Amy knows much more about all the different areas of Chinese culture, so in some way, I am learning from her.
The amount of time and effort that went into making this wonderful video deserves much appreciation.
At the end…you’re like the Cupid from afar shooting not only a video but also an arrow to connect the two hearts! 💘 :D
Thank you so much!! It was a big video to make but knowing you enjoyed it makes it worthwhile!
Well said
Shanghai born Aussie here. The fried pork chop, fried eel and shrimp are all very nostalgia dishes for me, I’m glad you got to try them! Next time you order the fried pork chop, try dipping it in 辣酱油 (Shanghainese Worcestershire sauce), which is the traditional condiment to serve it with, although ketchup works as well. 😄
I got tears in my eyes when I watched the guy propose to that girl.
I super love this Amy and Jasmine combo ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yay! So happy you enjoy!
I am a German living in Shanghai and I can approve of the Schnitzel at Er Guang just missing a bit of Lingonberry jam.
There's literally a 0% chance you're german when you say it's missing lingonberry jam lmao that is absolutely the least german thing ever to go with Schnitzel
@@Daemonenbluete Preiselbeere is quite common though
@@friedrichtheodor3069 In austria, which isn't germany. Maybe in some parts of bavaria, but it's certainly not common in germany, I'd even call it unheard of unless you're somewhere in the very south of germany. This makes me so nostalgic! I haven't been able to go back to Shanghai since before Covid so this brings back all the memories. Looks like a blast!
i am addicted to all your videos. im learning so much and taking notes for when i eventually go to china! also jasmine is like the most beautiful woman i have ever seen

Blondie has one of the most wonderful attitudes among China YTers I’ve come across. An early morning dose of your video peps me up for the rest of the day. Great work!
The sauteed eel is a quintessential Shanghai dish, as is Shanghai style wonton and "drunk" chicken. The fried pork and sauteed eel are also used as toppings for bowls of plain thin noodles in soup, often served on a separate dish to retain the texture.
Can't believe I'd never heard of it before!! It's so tasty and will definitely be ordering it again
it's all grouped into Shanghai label now, but 炒鳝糊 is from Suzhou and 醉鸡/花雕鸡 is obviously from Shaoxing. So much of Shanghai's food are immigrant food from nearby regions.
There's an alternate version of stirfried eel from Hangzhou specific for noodles called Shrimp flash fried eel 虾爆鳝面 which originated from a shop in Hangzhou called 奎元馆(Kui Yuan Guan) on Jiefang Road. They also make a great 片儿川 (winter bamboo shoots slices, snow vegetables, and shredded pork) noodles.
add bamboo shoot shanghai cured pork soup to the list.
@@wpgc2 It is fun to read the Shanghai chapter of an all-encompassing Chinese cookbook.

I love the ending of the video where you have helped with the fella with setting up the proposal. So heart warming! Thanks for making those amazing videos. Can't wait to visit China when thrle right time comes.
You are a national treasure Amy
I have spend 2 years in china and i can say that it’s the place i miss the most and i am planning to go back soon
China zero covid😱
Wife took me to this riverside walk when we visited Shanghai on our honeymoon. I counted no less than 5 different wedding photography sessions going on along the walk.
Didn't know about the local specialities so will definitely be trying them the next time we visit.
Miss shanghai so much!! And jasmine has the 女神vibe, i'm a fan!
Appreciate the time and effort made into making these informative but not draggy. Kuddos for also having both English and Chinese subtitles. My compentency for the latter has plateaued over the years so watching a bilingual vlog and subtitles has been very helpful. Also, may I ask what camera and editing software you're using? 😊
I miss this. I had all of these growing up over 20 years ago. I moved to Australia when I was 7. My grandma used to make the best stir fry eels but she stir fry it with sliced bamboo shoots and lots of white pepper. It was my favourite growing up.
馄饨,鳝丝,油爆虾,复兴公园... I've been living in the US too long. This video really hits a spot and brings back memories. 复兴公园 was my goto park when I was a kid... and all that food... I'm crying and drooling at the same time. Thank you 艾米饭 for posting this one.
The same to me. I'm missing Chinese food I ate at 徐家汇. Most of Chinese restaurants in US cook fake Chinese food like 左宗鸡, 蒙古牛, 柠檬鸡, ... that's killing me.
With these dishes, it really brings you back in time to old Shanghai, as well as memories.
Also, congratulations to Miss Jasmine on her wedding purposal.
Thanks to two lovely ladies showing these wonderful Shanghainese food. I hope to travel to China soon and get to try them then.
Your video has brought back so many fond memories while I was living in in this great city many years ago.
OMG! That eel dish is my all time favorite! 😋...what a great tour!
Another wonderful video where you got into Shanghai’s cuisine. Great to see how you work with Jasmine. Keep bringing out the great videos!
Amy, I watched every episode of your channel. I love it. You’re adventurous and open-minded and interesting. I especially like enjoying your video while I am eating on my own, which makes me felt companied, relaxing, good appetite 🤣, as well as learning more about the authentic culture of food. The thing is every time you have friends or family jointed with you, the vibe is more vibrant and lovely! Keep it if you enjoyed it too! And the chemistry between you and Jasmine explained in Chinese is 动静结合~ Nice combo.
Always super excited when I see you uploading a video! Didn’t had breakfast yet getting SUPER hungry 🤣
Thank you for visiting my home town :D i get to experience things vicariously through you. been waiting for 3 years to go back home. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
That eel dish looked incredible! Hope there's more Shanghai food to come, it's very intriguing.
Definitely wanna go back to Shanghai soon and make a video just about Benbangcai (homestyle shanghai food), I'm super intrigued now I've had a small sample of it!
The shrimp dish looks great. I wonder if they taste something like the fresh water shrimp in Suzhou which are served without shells. Miss China so much. Amy keeps me in touch! Thanks Amy for the great videos which I can tell involved lots of post production.
The hole in the wall with the paw serving coffee is so funny!😂 As for schnitzel, that's Austrian (which may derives from Italy's veal milanese).
Next time you are in the region, you have to try 醉蟹!It’s raw crab marinated in shaoxing wine. I know you are adventurous with your food so why not try raw crabs! It’s actually super delicious and one of my all time favourite foods!
Ooh thanks so much for the recommendation! I'll add it to my 'to eat' list
@@BlondieinChina You must! It’s my all time favourite, if you like the sweet (ShaoXing) wine taste 🤤🤤

Looks like I know what I am going to do this weekend ! Thanks for displaying the different addresses :)
I hope to see more Shanghai related videos in the future. There are so many things to do here that this type of content helps out a lot !
wow good
The last clip of the marriage proposal reminded me of the last trip I had to Shanghai 4 years ago, walking on the bund one random morning, there were at least a dozen to 15 wedding picture shoots… a place of love
Many highlights in your vlog. Your Shanghainese has character and adds to the humour. The longtang mall's interesting. Thanks for including these little places of interest. Having left Shanghai as a child, I'm doing my homework on where to go for my return.
Hell yea what an awesome video. Shanghai was always an afterthought on my way to Yiwu Market and now I realize I missed so much in Shanghai
people may not realise but Jasmine's makeup and hair probably took 2 hours 🤭🤭🤭or at least 1 hour if she is super quick. So she probably woke up just as early.
I really love the last ending where the couple got together. Thanks for the nice catch. All the remaining aspects are just tremendous, especially you and Jasmine enjoying the food together.
❤️ you dancing brought a tear to my eye!
It all looks great. With small deep fried prawns personally I would pop the whole thing in, head, shell, tail and all. Popcorn shrimp! When deep fried the shell just becomes a lovely crisp texture and also you are not peeling off the seasoning. Sesame sauce on wontons is amazing. Sesame has such a wonderful flavour - nutty and fragrant. Great on noodles, as part of a hot pot dip, even in a salad dressing. I love your energy and your preparation for these videos - it makes the food seem very accessible for those who might not have anything like it before. I also love that you take your parents to exciting restaurants. When your dad said that some people on their guided tour in China had never had chili or even garlic before it makes me realize how very lucky I am to love and explore all kinds of food - would be willing to try most things at least once. To me the food is the best way to experience a culture. You don't even need to speak the language - having delicious food amongst the locals is so great. Just point at what someone is having that looks great and give it a shot. Keep it up!
Love watching your videos especially with Jasmine! Just discovered your show on USA today channel as well. Love it Amy!!
蛋饼 and 煎饼 are essentially the same thing, only different names and slightly different fillings depending on where you're getting it.
Those strange paintings in the wonton restaurant are recreations of John Currin paintings. And that's very, very odd; John Currin is a provocative and polarizing contemporary figurative painter from the US.
Hi Amy, thanks for showing 复兴公园. I grew up around there, my primary school is one block away. So much memory. Love from Sydney.
I always love the vibes you're giving.
lol, I like the end part. 'I love love'.
Eel fish, fried shrimp are also my favourite, and 4 happiness wheat gluten( kaofu) is another must try for me. As Ben Bang cuisines
always come with large amount of soy sauce and sugar, you can take some of them as snacks. I remember when I was little my dad took me to Shanghai to visit friends , Huan he ( yellow river) road and Za Pu road were where we always had dinners at. A lotta old fashioned western style 2-3 storey town houses that remodelled into those delicate restaurants, serving authentic Shanghai cuisines. Such a perfect blend of east and west.
Love every minute of this video :) Thanks Amy😍
Glad I found you. As a non China chinese, I can't make out half of their diverse slang and saturated dialects. I learnt more stuffed cuisine every day. Thank you
One of the best videos I have seen on your channel. From the marriage proposals to you following up on the shanghai park. You have such a wholesome content. Please keep videos like this rolling and show the real experiences in China.
Amy back in Shanghai, it feels so right. How I miss it so much.
Thank you so much for this video. My mother was born in Shanghai’s French quarter and lived there from 1935-1949. Her mother was Russian and her father Eurasian. She loved the city and missed it greatly. Although she’s gone now, I was able to see what the city might have looked like when she lived there. It was very touching.
Thank you for the park, I grew up there every weekend. Can't describe how much I miss it.
What an entertaining, resourceful treasure map! Story telling is also brilliant. Cheers Amy :)
Good stuff mate, keep the videos coming! Watching from Melbourne and waiting for more travel restrictions to be lifted so I can visit some family in Shanghai. I thought the key difference between the big and small wontons, for Shanghainese people at least, was that the small wontons were more of a complimentary dish to other things such as Xiao Long Bao and you really just ordered them to drink the soup they're in, whereas the big wontons were more of a main dish per se.
As a foodie living in Shanghai I think this might be my favorite video yet! ❤
Shanghai is in a lockdown again. Is the area your are living in affected ?
@@HafiZzZzZz luckily we are not in lockdown (yet), although we are due to be moving apartments in a couple of weeks so I’m hoping all lockdowns ease by then otherwise I’ll be stuck haha!
Thank you for making this amazing video. I feel so home sick, and hopefully I can visit the place I grew up once covid situation gets better in Shanghai.

Oh ‘man, that’s my hometown! I ❤ SH & NY forever !!
Wow, that is the neighborhood that I came from 30 some years ago. It is very well presented, what a lovely job. By the way, the Shanghai Schnitzels usually go with Lai Jiang You (Chinese version of Worcestershire sauce:). Otherwise, the pork could be at dry side.
