A small improvement to the Naples strat is that you can ask the Pope for mil access (and even fleet basing rights) ahead of time, and have your army hang out in Rome while you wait for Alfonso to die. That skips the dangerous naval invasion. Normally you get black flagged if you're in another country when you declare war, but that doesn't happen if that country is your ally.

    • @Benrman
      @Benrman Před 6 měsíci +9

I just called in the Pope with the promise of land and he did all of the work for me. Set all the provinces you get claims on as vital interest(red instead of yellow) right before the war and the pope removes his interest in those provinces(except for 2) and will transfer occupation to you. Declare for one of the 2 he keeps an interest in and he will transfer that one too. Only work I did in that whole war was fight a naval battle and siege one(non fort) province. I sent only 1k men into Italy for that war and fought it at the same time as the ottomans
Edit: I did the epirus mission before my war with Naples so I had the 7 permaclaims and took all 7 in the first war. But I also attacked the ottomans way earlier so I wasn’t worried about the modifier from the first mission running out

There's always RNG, the Pope is usually not willing to support you right away. Hungary rivals Serbia so you can't get them, stuff like that. But if you build enough ships to block the strait and hire enough mercs to assault the fort in Gallipoli, you don't need allies to take down the Ottomans. This guide is really good at pointing out general strats and estate stuff even if some of the details changed in 1.37.

A few small alterations which I feel aid you, if you are not especially veteran at the game like me and don't know every tiny minute detail:
1 - Don't give out one of the Mana privileges, and instead Sell Titles. You get extra Loyalty (which gives you their bonuses much of the time), and you get a significant amount of Ducats, which mean you don't need to take 4% loans at the start to build up your mercs, advisors and ships. Coupled with the Serbia Event, I've managed to avoid loans until my war with the Ottomans.
2 - Take Impending Doom as soon as Naples goes free. You get claims across much of it, which reduce CCC further than Fabricated Claims, and you don't rely on wasting a Diplomat on Spying. Sure, you lose out on the 10% morale, but honestly, by the time your Naples War is over, you should be almost prepared for the Ottoman War.
3 - Get out loans to get the Tactica Naval Doctrine because you can punch WELL above your weight with that Doctrine, meaning your fleet can be about 30% smaller than the Ottomans, and still beat them.
4 - Even if it means you don't get all three Ottoman provinces across the strait, get a land border (or a Bulgarian Border) with Serbia. You need to declare on them for the gold mine ASAP.

Though I did play myself, made them a pronoia before they flipped, so no loyalty from returning provinces + supporting independence by Castlie, France, Austria and eventually even Russia meant 200 years of disloyalty. I’m nearly in the 1700s and have wrecked most of my rivals and only now can I get them loyal with prestige. A lesson learned!

Venice actually won a huge war against the Ottomans, so my first war with them was actually just cleaning up where Venice left off with Hungary. I had to take bulgaria and then I took back greece from venice and albania in my second and third wars. Hungary forced me to break my alliance with serbia and gave me half of serbia for free, and then I went and bullied Genoa for their money and islands. Some time after Albania, I became a great power, so I was straight vibing. Cleared out my loans, and building up big time now.

Just started watching so I'm not sure if you mention it, but you can turn into Latin Empire as Byz with the new patch. Side with the Pope in the initial church event, then let the Ottomans declare war on *you* (or bait them into it); it has to be a defensive war against the Ottomans. Then the Pope will demand concessions in order to call a crusade in your benefit; if you agree, you turn into Latin Empire but keep Byz's missions. The Orthodox ones become uncompletable, though.

Honestly, I'd say the guide is pretty questionable. By refusing to take the "Impending Doom" mission for so long, he missed out on the Epirote Despots mission, which would give him claims on 80% of Naples. If you take all of your claims by pre landing in Papacy via Mill Access, then you have the 100 dev needed to repair the army. While I am glad he uses the Consecrate Metropolitan to get the 5 patriarch authority, he relied on random chance for his other 5, rather than taking the privilege that lets you sacrifice 5 legitimacy and 5 Prestige for it. I more bring that up for folk who don't get lucky with an event.
Letting your navy suffer at 3 year construction times is also not ideal. I can understand why he might argue "relying on the RNG of Genoa not rivalling you wouldn't fit my idea of this strategy being "For EVERY time"", but improving relations with them will let you remove the debuff to ship construction time as early as September of 46. So instead of day 1 ships being done in 49, you get ships done in 47.
For reference, with these small modifications to strategy and some minmaxing of your mil points (Focus Mil, +2 advisor from day 1, the privilege, Power Projection from Epirus and Naples victories), you can have tech 4 BEFORE the Ottomans. Combining that with the Icon of St. Michael and Repairing the army, you can have an 8 month window where your armies are BETTER than the Ottomans. I was able to end the war with the Ottomans by 51 with all Byzantine cores and no debt with no allies. (To be clear, I spent all the war rep money on the loans, but I came out positive balance.) I will acknowledge that he got unlucky with Alfonso dying in 49 (I typically see him die in 45-47), but he kind of half-assed that war, when it's such a vital setup step to springboard into the greater conflict.

AND he landed the Pronoia AFTER giving all the land back. That is a big mistake, as it resets the Liberty Desire reductions when you land them. You want to land them BEFORE so that you can help keep them loyal, since Pronoia get an increased LD.

Also in my attempts, I noticed that it’s actually possible to ally both the Pope and Serbia before declaring the first war against Epirus if you scornfully insult a papal rival and your free company finishes recruiting. You do have to be careful that the extra couple of days it takes doesn’t mean that Epirus gets an ally though, but in my experience they only allied Genoa once in multiple attempts. It’s a very RNG heavy start so restarts are expected, but I found that if you don’t ally the pope really quickly, you get an extra -20 reasons for them not to ally you and it becomes impossible unless you get them to 200 relations, which takes years.

      Your comment is braindead.
      1. Claims on 80% of naples are unnecessary as you are only taking a few provinces anyway
      2. you cannot take anyymore privelages if you take all the ones he suggests, which you seem not to know - since you fail to suggest which privilege should not be taken in its stead.
      3. There is no way to remove the debuff by allying Genoa, you fail to provide any clear instruction on how exactly these correlate AND how you cand o this in 1946, so you are likely lying.
      4. 8 months is not nearly any amount of significant time at all
In conclusion, your comment is far more questionable than anything in the video.

      1. The claims are useful. By taking that land early, you are able to get 100 Dev needed to repair the army and remove that debuff. Claims to do this early, thus improving your army strength significantly, is very useful.
      2. Okay. Rights of Donation. You don't start with any heretical territory and a -10% conversion debuff from the Union of the Churches, anyways.
      3. I didn't say to ally Genoa. If you have 50+ relations with Genoa, you reduce the 200% penalty by 100%. By having 50+ relations with Venice, you reduce it by another 100%. So, by not being rivaled to either and improving relations to 50+ with both, you negate the +200% ship construction time.
      4. 8 Months is multiple battles of having a significant advantage. The first battles, where both sides are at their highest for positioning, morale, and manpower are the most important.

3 The debuff gets lowered if venice and genoa have good relations with you, so boats build way faster
4 8 months is enought to engage in some battles and destroy ottoman's army
In conclusion, you need to play more before even trying to correct someone who is giving good advice

The Bulgarian strat is now guaranteed to work, because of the one extra province you get. Just encircle Filibe in the peace deal and get the Bulgarians to occupy it, and Ottos cant reach it because it's encircled by you.

TBH, you give the clergy "right of donations" a little early. You don't focus too much on converting provinces in the early years; that comes in when you attempt to break your catholic alliances and lose the "reform" Churches Union. Instead, I use and recommend "expansionist zealotry" this way; it helps counteract the early loss of morale before reforming the army, and it also helps after trying to push back the few Ottoman stacks that push in.

I disagree that “Union of the Churches” is not that bad. The modifiers aren’t that bad, but it also causes massive stacks of rebels to spawn randomly. This becomes really painful when you are mired in a war. I was getting rebel stacks bigger than my entire military capacity. It’s a hard choice to drop it though, as you need Catholic allies, especially at the start so dropping it in the early event may just not be possible.

The only Anatolian war they declared was Dulk at the very beginning of the game before even Naples.
