Just an observation. The original PGMOL story is BS. Right after the goal was scored, the ref said: "Coming back to the offside mate". The VAR guy followed up with "checking the offside"! Event the top banner on their monitor was saying "Checking disallowed goal". They KNEW that the call was offside. And they followed up with "check complete". Meaning they've validated the offside call after determining that the goal was valid. Twilight zone.

Exactly, surely by definition, the only reason VAF would be reviewing it is because it was disallowed. If the linesman hadn't flagged, they would have given the goal and gone back to the centre, VAR would not have been involved.

Big cricket fan here...Any kind of appeal happens in cricket - the viewer can hear everything the TV umpire says, they go through a systematic process that is open to the viewer and they take their time to come to the right decision. The umpires will clarify what it is that needs to be reviewed and go through the relevant process...regardless of how silly the appeal seems..they go through the SAME PROCESS EVERY TIME! I cannot believe how rushed and panicked that whole debacle was on Saturday, it was an absolute disgrace.

The one thing I don’t like in cricket “var” is the waste of time. Team refers what they think is a nick. Yet when the umpire reviews it, instead of going straight to snicko, they have to determine if the ball is close to the bat. Of course it is, otherwise there wouldn’t have been a review.

Let's be clear, contrary to the media and referee lies, the rules of the game does allow them to stop the game and go back.
The rules clearly state once the game has been restarted they cannot go back and review an incident.
This would not be a review, it would be correcting a decision due to poor communication.
They perfectly knew the the rules but rigged it to disallow the goal.
VAR can be heard saying offside, when it was clearly onside.
Two of them in that room, why isn't one of them watching the game?
The ref is also at fault for not getting clarification.

English football should invest in lower league officiating and encourage it with more pay and more training. I also think they are in a position that importing talent is a good idea, but both would be best.

This isn’t VAR getting it wrong as is the case in all the usual VAR complaints. Not a decision error just total incompetance and allowing rules to get in the way of what clearly needed to be done. Pause the bloody game and let someone with big enough balls decide.

  • @iainsutherland1113

Less process and more common sense. Every person in that VAR room should have the autonomy to be able to put their hand up in the moment and point out a mistake. There should be no hierarchy in there because that is exactly why people don't speak up for fear of going against 'the process'. No one would have had any issue if they had sent a quick message to ref to hold off the re-start for another few seconds. The officials these days are quite happy to hold up play for 5 minutes while they scrutinise whether a players shirt sleeve is off-side so a slight delay to clear up a glaring mistake should be no problem.

Gotta ask why are they specifically asking man u players this question who are likely gonna be against Liverpool getting anything from this, talk about media control, ask these guys so we get the message we want out

They're talking as though these officials were at the helm an airliner or air traffic control etc where lives are at stake. Have some prospective, it's only a mistake to a game of football.

I like how Liverpool make themselves the eternal victim club every single time. There's been far, far worse decisions made; and far, far worse officiated games. They feel good about being sympathised and pitied by other fanbses. Comedy gold.

Liverpool, as all clubs have been unfairly treated by VAR at times. This is the first time since it’s been implemented that an objective decision (I.e., an offside) has been incorrectly made. Seems as though by your language here you’d rather it just continue to be a potential issue in the future?
