    This customer came to us after taking his truck to another shop to get the best of the best. Turns out those buzzword parts might not ride as well as the internet says, so we took this customer's dream truck and made it that much better with the help of a Carli Suspension 6" Dominator system sporting all the options. Now he's got the look, and the suspension performance to back it up.

    I've got a 2013 Ram 2500 , bought in March of 2013, suspension replaced in May of 2013 with the Carli/Bilstein system (front and rear springs). Never an issue, replaced the shocks with carli Bilsteins when needed and it now has the Carli Fox shocks on it. Seven years and 275K miles later, I wouldn't hesitate putting a Carli system on again.

    I wanted to stay out of this conversation but I recently had Coilovers installed on my 2015 F250. The huge difference they have made on the ride quality. I am currently running an 8 inch lift and after the Coilover conversion it rides better than stock and I am amazed on how smooth it is. I think the right Coil-over set up and when it’s properly tuned to your desired need one can benefit more from coil-overs. This video had scared me from purchasing Coil-overs, however, I had to test them out for myself and I strongly disagree with a lot of the things he points out. I hardly feel any small bumps. When it comes to huge bumps they are extremely soft and my back thanks me for it! Rides better than my 1500 Silverado!

      @Rhinopkc Před 4 lety +4

      PML has been making diff covers that are profiled properly long before Banks decided to film an infomercial. Notice that Banks didn't "test" a PML cover? Don't buy into the Banks hype of trying to reinvent something that PML has been producing for YEARS!!

      @@Rhinopkc thanks, I appreciate the perspective...and I agree, they have been making covers for a long time. Long before BANKS's video, I personally (just my opinion of course), struggled with the concept of lubricant in the housing hitting a flat wall. Did not make sense to me to not allow the fluids to follow the ring gear up. I'm not an engineer, or any king of lubrication expert, maybe I should keep my opinions to myself. Thanks for the constructive remarks and not taking the common route of just calling me an idiot.

    The 2013 is probably the perfect truck, you get the nice interior, but the good suspension design. After going from a 4 link truck to a radius arm truck, i kinda regret it. Its better for a mild truck, but the 4 link trucks are better for a wild one.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes since the Carli shocks are actually tuned. The other thing to consider is that those kind of travel numbers aren’t possible from a coil over on these trucks unless there’s a lot of custom fab work involved.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  Před 4 lety

      They just aren’t tuned for the truck. Most big brands just buy a shock off the shelf from Fox that’s the right length for the lift. That shock comes with a very basic “truck” tune from Fox that gets the job done, but can never compare to a custom tuned coil and shock system.

    That guy had no idea what he was getting himself into with that first lift kit. If he would've taken some time to do some research and asked some questions while noting his end game, he could've saved himself a ton of cash. Oh and he can ditch that OEM spare tire. If he runs it with a flat on the rear axle for any real length of time, he's going to be looking at replacing some diff parts also. At least the MAG HYTEC cover gasket will save him around $10 in gasket costs. lol
    Johnny joints wear out a bit slower than urethane bushings with the higher density urethane however they still wear out but being rebuildable as are lower density urethane bushings. One isn't so much "better" over the other and lifespan is determined by road conditions, miles driven and of course if the long arm joints are exposed to deicing agents such as the dreaded salt states love to spread like it's free.
    How are the driveshaft pinion angles addressed in these +6" lifts over OEM geometry so the U-joint is rotating at a uniform speed while either 2WD or 4WD is engaged so the consumer isn't having to drop the shafts at an increased interval? A spacer lengthens the short front shaft but does nothing to address the increased angles at the yokes. What about the rear with the short wheelbase trucks running one piece shafts as opposed to two piece shafts with carrier bearings? Not a single lift manufacturer has ever commented on this topic.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  Před 4 lety +4

      It’s because of the limitations of the rear suspension design. Carli is about ride quality and strength, not a given lift height, and doing a 6” lift for the rear coil sprung trucks doesn’t meet their strength and ride quality requirements. They could completely re-engineer the back end, but it would be a pretty cost prohibitive set up.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  Před 4 lety +2

      We’re working on exactly that! If towing is an issue, Carli has the pintop level that keeps full towing capacity, or you can run Timbrens like you said.

  • @zjeepgozweeln
    @zjeepgozweeln Před 2 lety +2

    Man, that suspension was doomed from the start. What were they thinking? 600lb. single spring rate and those mile long shock ends eating up usable travel. Where are the dual rate springs? Literally no reason to run coilovers in this application with single rate springs. The effective spring rate probably should have been less than half of the single 600lb. they had in there. With proper dual rate springs and the rate nut adjusted for transition, it would not have rode like a dump truck and been able to utilize a lot more travel. 🤦
    The old suspension could have been "fixed", but those old arms were low quality and the front shocks needed to be swapped anyway. So you're basically starting from scratch. I agree that THIS coilover system was junk, but a proper dual rate coilover setup will work great. However, not everyone wants to spend days in the desert testing springs and valving.
    Nice job providing an actual working suspension for this customer.
