  • Three days into ownership it was seeing the back straight at Sebring, shortly after that it was on the Dyno, and the testing does not end there! Introducing our 2024 Mustang Dark Horse, the fourth S650 in our stable here for a bit of R&D testing. We want to get as many benchmarks while it's still stock, so enjoy what is just the beginning of Steeda's Dark Horse Project!

    Go drive the new S650. They definitely drive significantly better than the S550!!! They weigh within 10 pounds of each other and the comfort level is much improved over the S550. The Dark Horse is definitely a step-up over the Mach I. Car and Driver Magazine reported that the Dark Horse Mustang was the best braking car that they have ever tested. That’s over 40 years!!! My neighbor reduced the weight of his DH from 3930 to 3640 pounds. My C8 Z51 weighs 3665 pounds. The Dark Horse is beating the C8 at every track. Check out the numbers; I was shocked!!!! This car rocks! Looking forward to getting the encryption on the ECM/ECU. This car beats the Mach I and GT-350 on the road courses. I haven’t seen it beating the GT-350R yet.
    This car is impressive. Ford engineers state that the Dark Horse has the lowest coefficient of drag and best down force of any stock Mustang ever. Look underneath the car to see why!!!

    Glad to see a dark horse dyno what it should dyno at. I wasn’t impressed by the 440 whp. That is exactly what to expect 500*.88=440.
    Disappointed though to hear about the oil temp on track. 300 is high. Unless that’s what Ford designed it to run at during a 20 min HPDE session it seems like Ford did not address cooling as well as they should have.

    Diff cooler isn't there because of friction slip in the dif. That's a Torsen diff and they are all gears...no slip whatsoever. The cooler is for added protection from extended track time.

    Was it a choice to not put the front handling pack lips or or did someone get lazy on the PDI?

      We chose not to install them. They are usually installed by the dealer, but the vehicle was directly delivered to our Pompano location, where Glen installed the front splitter and gurney flap (as well as removing the transport blocks).

    Does the Dark Horse fix the numb handling from the GT?

      Have you driven the S650 GT performance pack or you just repeating what some people have said. I found the handling much improved over my the S550 GT. Test drive one and make your own decision. The Dark Horse is a fantastic track Mustang with it's adjustable camber settings. The best way to find out how a vehicle handles is drive it yourself with a test drive.

      People that bash the car have not driven one. I've heard all the talk and let them drive my car and they change their mind. Only thing they say now is "it can't be tuned" lol.

      The S550 boys are embarrassing online. They don't have that energy in person. I get compliments in the real world. Typical Mustang owners. It's why I try and avoid them in person. Cringe

    Intesting machines. In australia these dark horses with no track pack option available are rated from ford at 350kw with price tag of little over 114k aud. The Gt is 345kw rated here starting at 87k aud.

      @@mytrisvr4 i live in Sydney but had to go to the Central Coast to get my Dark Horse. if you are in Sydney NSW and still want a Dark Horse, try Lancaster Motor Group in Singleton as they had allocations a while ago. What i would do is get it towed to you if you don't want to drive that distance to pick it up? Other than that, the GT Performance Package would be a great car to get.

      @wadeayoub9799 oh nice! My GT is coming from newy. I modify my car alot so a speced up GT will work for me. When did you order yours? I've had my order for almost a year.

      @@mytrisvr4 I ordered mine end of January to very early February 2023. They confirmed last week that the eta for it is approx November this year. You will have a lot of fun when you mod it, there is so much you can do and it will improve immensely. You certainly will enjoy it when you get it.

    Nice car but I sold my last Mustang..2016 PP1 convertible because Ford has made these cars way way to heavy so if Ford ever drops 500 lbs I'll buy another Mustang till then..I'll stick to my old Mustang.

      Agreed but not worth it imo , Ford has lost the understanding of what a Mustang was meant to be.
      My old 1989 LX notch back weight 3000 lbs these new tubs of shtz ....4000 plus ...Ridiculous.

    The tremec 3160 may shift better but it’s not stronger than the MT82.

      @@Sonic_1000 it definitely is NOT. 3160s will blow out 3rd gear long before a MT82 will with Boost but go ahead and think your 3160 that also comes in VEE SIX Camaros is special.

    I thought I was supposed to get 500 hp. I guess that’s not at the wheels though.

      500HP is what is rated at the crank. Roughly you can expect a 10-15% loss of power just due to the different components in the drivetrain. That would put that 500HP around 425-450 at the wheel which is pretty accurate!

      All automotive manufacturer's horsepower ratings are at the crank.

      It dyno’d exactly what it should. For a typical modern rwd manual car you can expect a 12% loss by the time the power reaches the wheels. 500 * .88 = 440

      @@LongStroke351 true but my 392 charger trapped 116 mph in 3300 da just saying lol . Maybe with tuning they will wake up . But for now S550 is better buy.

    Lol he said a coat of wax. Ain't no pros using wax on cars these days. That made me laugh pretty hard. Steeda should move their whole operation here to Colorado. We don't do humidity.

    Why glaze over 443 RWHP it’s standard of a stock 500 HP car from the factory 😂😂 a GT350 is better than the DarkHorse so Ford went backwards lol

      Gt350 is definitely a more fun car to drive, however I wouldn’t classify it as the better car.

    I don’t like the front I just can’t get over the front with those two black eyes or eyeshadow whatever you wanna call it. I’m sorry I just can’t get past it. I don’t know what’s wrong with me…lol😂

    The car looks like a mashup of a Charger and a Camaro. What happened to setting the pace? Making others follow you? It may be advanced but its not an attractive car. Hard pass.
