    Covered in this video: How to move off smoothly in a manual car. How to brake and stop a car without jerking. How to change gear smoothly. How to steer a car smoothly.
    Driving without causing the car to jerk makes a massive difference to you and your passengers. You shouldn't feel how you move off, brake, change gear or steer.
    If you want to avoid stopping in a jerky way or changing gear then the tips in this video will hopefully help.
    Our video covers a basic way of changing down gear but if you're looking for a more technical explanation then have a look here www.iam-bristol.org.uk/index.p...

    After 4 of my driving tests cancelled, I finally managed to pass my driving test. Chris, your channel has helped me tremendously from back in 2019 when I first started to learn to drive. From clutch control, hill starts, the road signs, the parallel parking manoeuvres, every video with great detail on each topic helped me to develop a better understanding of driving.
    Thank you very much for your videos Chris - and good luck to anyone else that is still due for their driving test. It’s certainly been a horrible last year and this year with the backlog, but eventually that big day will come.

      @@worlddriving Lol - possibly. I found a great deal on a vehicle that I couldn’t let pass me by, especially with the way the economy is at this time. It was in San Antonio, Texas which is about an hour and half from Austin. I drove it back by myself. The beginning was eventful. I practiced for a few hours in empty parking lots before getting on the highway and heading back home. I’ve learned that the rest of the world is more familiar with manual driving compared to Americans. Only 10% of vehicles are made and/or driven here are manual. Now there’s vehicles with buttons. Manual driving may eventually be a lost art/skill here soon, figured now is the time to learn.

    • @ChrisBanda
      @ChrisBanda Před 2 lety +1

      @Julie Hernandez I live in the US and have been driving a manual for years. I did learn in a different country. In America the only people who are interested in manuals tend to be car "enthusiasts" and most of them are more interested in "performance" driving and rev matching which in my opinion just over complicates downshifting. In normal sane driving you rarely need to do all this crazy downshifting. The obsession with rev matching baffles me because I have an old car that has had zero transmission problems for years and I don't do all this fancy hill-toe nonsense.

    I’ve been driving for nearly a year and I still can’t get used to my car as it keeps jerking most of the time when I raise the clutch slowly even in the correct gear that matches the speed I’m going at but when it jerks, it loses my confidence, momentum and builds my frustration level up. I had to keep going on a quiet road or in a quiet car park to get used to my car especially it’s a 2.0 petrol and it feels like I feel abandoned from driving.😔 it’s alright once I got going and didn’t have to slow down as often depending on the traffic. I had to keep watching the video of how to change gears smoothly and more clutch control and it helps.😔

      Hi! This video might help czcams.com/video/8vGQEJOWJkk/video.html

  • @RealNotallGaming
    @RealNotallGaming Před rokem

    0:35 no
    1:01 just mantain the RPM above 1100 if you have a less powered car that want to stall, above 150Hp there is no problems at all even with only the clutch pedal
    or if you want to use only the clutch just release it if the RPM goes down to 950
    3:55 use a lot of clutch for engine brake, if you weak the clutch disk it will cost more, but if you wear off the brakes or if they are hot because used like a noob for a long time they will not ... brake at all in the right moment and you will cause an accident
    you can simply drive withtout brakes, slowdown with FIRST GEAR and just use the brakes like a parking brakes at full stop ^^
    4:59 the best way to drive is barefoot (with socks of course ^^) you will sense the pedals at 100%
    5:16 NO is the opposite ! foot in front of the accellerator so you can "heel and toe" for downshifts
    in the video you will NOT brake smootly because you are in front of the brake and you will apply too much force even for small decellerations and you will NOT be smootly on accellerator because too far away
    5:51 again, you can use 1th gear to brake and just dont stop so you can pass later respect those cars but still moving (at this speeds there is necessity of braking at all, if you panic you simply cant drive because unable)
    6:44 pls, dont change gears like that, is simply wrong and potencially dangerous ( if your hand slip you will not clutch brake if you need to do so, just PUSH the lever with your palm)
    because the video is about smoothness, not fuel, mantain the change of gear at 2500-3000 RPM where the torque is better (aka the engine deliver more traction)
    i assume, because my car is a BMW Z4 170Hp and i never tried a FORD, i dont know the model of the video ... so just stay high RPM, in the case of video ... let me guess ... 3000 RPM because seems diesel or GPL because low "max rpm"
    9:38 1 point for the video
    there, is a smooth use of steering, just lock aim , dont counter steer for every little movements, is not rally after all ^^
    10:50 just release the steering wheele, at that low speed there is no danger for instant understeer and you can place the left hand on the gear lever so you can change gear if some pedestrian is in the way (blind spot)
    video too long for some basic moves, still beneficial for rookies
    a little too over complicated to explain basic moves
    VOTE: 6.5
    like indeed

    • @worlddriving
      @worlddriving  Před 2 lety

      Hi! Don't use neutral while the cars moving or it'll free-wheel (coast) and speed up. Which gear depends on how steep the hill is and how sharp the turn is. 1st if it's steep and sharp and use the brake :)

    Im looking at getting a 54 reg car. Will there be any difference in driving that compared to a 66 reg car?

    • @jgreen8339
      @jgreen8339 Před 3 lety +1

      It may not add gas for you when releasing the clutch so be sure to use the gas pedal when moving off. If it is older and has more miles the clutch may be a bit more worn resulting in the biting point being higher up than in the 66 plate car. Less technology in it. Depends which car it is, how many miles it has on it, how well it had been maintained and driven etc. Do some practice runs in a quiet area such as an industrial estate on a Sunday or something to get a feel for the car before going on busier roads I'd say. Happy driving Rhys 😃

    just rev match your down shifts, so much easier. Clutch in, down shift, blip the throttle, ease off the clutch.

    dear chris in my car there is no any RPM meter.so how can know the bitten point?

    • @worlddriving
      @worlddriving  Před 2 lety

      Hi! The biting point is found with the clutch. In 1st gear, slowly raise the clutch until you feel the rear of the car dip slightly and the engine sound change. 👍

      It's the point when during moving off you release the clutch pedal until you feel the car tending to move forward (or backward in reverse)

    Very few people drive manual cars... In traffic auto is the future. Manual cars tires you out in traffic. It's more for racing and rallies and stuff. For fun not for driving in traffic.
