  • Hey guys! This is a re-upload. We edited out a small portion of the first video today because it was causing some negativity, and that was my fault because I didn’t really give the whole story. I have a wonderful relationship with my neighbors (and still do) and I don’t want any negativity sent their way. It's honestly such a small thing and I think I made it seem like it was a way bigger deal than it really was. It was inappropriate for me to share details of a private conversation that I had with them. We always strive for this channel to be as positive a place as possible and I feel like I did a bad job of that today, so we plan to explain in a later video more detail surrounding the situation. I’m sorry for the bad flavor this left. Thank you for all your support. ❤️ -Laura

Dear Laura, you do an amazing job with all of this! I can't imagine trying to manage making sure everything you say is perfect, all the people who expect you to be perfect, and keeping up with everything else right after having a baby, when your body is still getting back to normal. It's hard enough, when things are on an average keel. (And we appreciate you being real and not always perfect, like all of us truly are.) Y'all are awesome, and I pray that you will keep going and not let it all get to you or pull you down!! Much thanks, love, and prayers for y'all!!

Hello from Canada. I found your channel in August 2019 while I was in quandry about my own garden beds. I had planted them 3-4 years previously and didn't like one single thing about them and was stuck because I thought I had to leave them (time and money) and try to revamp them without taking anything out. As I watched you daily over the 2019-2020 fall and winter and went back and watched many, many previous videos, I heard you say many times - if you don't like it and it doesn't bring you joy - take it out. Very wise advice. Last summer (2020) I ripped everything out and started again with the knowledge and education I've gained from watching hundreds of your videos. I replanted the beds and I can't tell you how HAPPY I am that I did. I love the beds, have still more to tackle this summer and can't wait to get started. I've bought probably 50 gardening magazines/books over the last 10 years and could never find what I was looking for in terms of style and guidance with deciding what goes where. Your videos are genius at helping me see what to plant and where. Your style for the most part is mine and I think your beds are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for showing me the way! I am forever grateful. P.S. I didn't see the earlier video but noticed the camper in the second one - and thought "Oh, my". I know you will figure out the most beautiful living screen and the process will be incredibly helpful to others who face similar challenges. Looking forward to seeing the Hartley go in!

@@ssayed6604 Hi S. Thanks for you comment and hello from Canada! Our zone is 4b with spring beginning in late March/early April and fall beginning mid-September. Can't plant annuals until very late in May. Winter temperatures average around -10C to - 15C with some colder snaps down to -25C to -30C. As long as we stay with plants/shrubs/trees that are 4b or below - everything will survive our winters. There are many plants available for zone 3 and 4 and many new varieties every year. I planted many hydrangeas last summer rated for zone 3 and 4 so I'm looking forward to those in the spring. Hostas do beautifully here, as well. Toughest plants in my garden. Looking foward to many daffs and tulips. Currently, we have about 60 cm of snow on the ground which is probably a little on the light side for us. What is your zone? I imagine it is much higher than ours and you can grow so many beautiful plants. Cheers!

I don't think she needs to apologise in any public way. A true apology should be done in person to her neighbor IF she wants to, I don't think that's any of our business though. Sorry if that's not the same feelings some of you have, but I love her honesty, if she wants to share with us her true feelings about an eyesore, then great! My neighbors have eyesores I'm trying to block from my view as well, so I'm planting evergreen trees to block them; a hideous giant trampoline I can see from my breakfast nook. I saw both videos and frankly, saw nothing wrong with what you said or how you handled it. In fact, I would tell you that I’m proud of you for how you handled your concerns. You are young but wise and by approaching someone with sincerity along with possible solutions is an excellent lesson for all of us to practice in our own lives. So many people are unwilling to have crucial conversations and instead carry around sadness and/or anger. Or they choose to talk behind the other persons back either with others or on social media. I know it had to be VERY difficult for you to go to them, especially with having given birth just days ago. Your parents, your family and your husband must be so proud of you and all you have become. And, I’m sure that your neighbors were not offended at all. Instead they are probably glad that you told them your concerns.

I didn’t see the negative comments, but can understand your dismay when they occurred. I thought you mentioning the negotiations between you and your neighbor was very helpful. I have two nearby neighbors who have been in an adjoining fence dispute for almost 15 years which I believe could have resolved had they talked day one. You are showing how neighbors should be...I’m sure your neighbors were probably just putting it where they could access it best and have it out of their way, without being conscious how it would look from your property. I’m sure you are fantastic neighbors and this will be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction. Don’t fret.

I also would fine this helpful. I didn’t see the original video though! I am sure there’s no way to share what happened without infringing on their privacy though. My parents recently bought a second home near me that I am helping them manage, and my sister and I each have a dedicated work space in the garage/studio in the backyard of that property. We have gotten to know the neighbors on all sides (either side and back) fairly well so far, better than any neighbors I’ve ever had in my life, really! So far they have all been delightful and we have worked together well. Our houses were probably all built at the same time, over 100 years ago, and originally sat on 3 lots that were subdivided up weird; we even share a garage structure and driveway with one of them, like many of the 100 year old houses in our historic urban neighborhood. The rear neighbors have an avocado tree to match ours in their back yard, and both trees are massive (ours is older than the houses for sure, and theirs is probably a child tree of ours), so we are getting them majorly serviced at the same time at the end of February and splitting the bill. It’s our first avocado tree (my parents’ main residence is juuuust too cool for citrus/avos) and I was so excited but nervous to care for such a special tree, so I found a local arborist and was so delighted to have his advice. I am thankful the neighbors are just as enthusiastic about it!
