  • In this video, I teach and play through the solo mode of World Wonders by Ze Mendes and Arcane Wonders. In World Wonders, you are trying to build out your city with roads, towers, and buildings, in order to then build the greatest world wonders.

My final building is illegally placed as there is no road adjacent nor the same kind of building. I really should have bought the square building instead, as that would have awarded me a point. Oops!
There is also question of the legality of my placement of the Obelisks. As I understand it, they need to be placed with a space in between. I interpreted it as being able to be diagonally placed, as there is a space in between and diagonal is not adjacent. However, I am likely wrong in this interpretation, and you should probably only place them horizontally or vertically from each other (not both).

This was an excellent play-through. I think I want to play this solo before I try to teach my wife how to play. Looking forward to it after your game. Thanks

This game is quite good solo, and I've heard the coming expansion will change the solo mode as well! Looking forward to that.

We got this one recently. I am hoping to play it with my husband but it is good to see the solo game in action. Thank you for the video, Daniel!

Great tutorial and playthrough as usual. I feel that I'm ready for my first game. Gotta bring it to the table tonight.

For those who don't know from watching, there is a score board on the back of the tile board. :) Good game, I was trying to find other strategies to score more points. This helped!

Just subscribed to your channel as I have started my hobby into solo board gaming very recently. Daniel, you are doing a wonderful job. I actually learned how to play World Wonders from you, so I thank you and appreciate all of the work you've put into making this game easy to follow.
I played this game twice and managed to beat the hard automata twice in a row barely by 1 point each time. I always record my stats on Board Game Geek as I document my progress and research what I did right or wrong when playing the game. The goal is to the limit as much of the building tiles you buy because each tile comes with the resources (food, ceramics, gears) which is the biggest way the automata scores points. That is why I avoid the biggest tiles as much as possible unless I seriously badly need it. I also avoid getting my population greater than 8 or 9 because that requires having a lot of resources which are points the automata receives as mentioned earlier. I can forego the extra three victory points on population if it prevents the automata from receiving 6 or more resources. If I need to buy a building tile, I make sure most, if not, all of them get surrounded by roads, towers, or with adjacent building tiles because that will be points for me. In some instances, it could be advantageous to just end a round even if you have a lot of gold remaining and are not able to purchase a monument. The automata will get some monuments here and there, but the amount should be minimal compared to yours if you buy the building tiles wisely.
Last but not least, the maximum threshold for points for winning is 25 points for the easy automata and 22 points for the hard automata (given you need a cushion for the potential monuments the automata gets). If your easy or hard automata scores more than 25 points just on resources alone, it will be very difficult to win. Hopefully, my information can help those who are still not able to win a solo game.
Keep up the good work, Daniel, and look forward to more solo gaming and tutorials from your excellent videos.

Does it have enough replay value for primarily solo play? It looks great, I just worry that this type of puzzle might get stale against an automa pretty quickly

I personally think it has a lot of replay value. The two sides of the player boards provide different ways to play. The way the monuments come out changes how you approach each play. And if you are feeling adventurous, you can use the public objectives as a requirement for winning. I.e. for the longest continuous road card you have to build a road as long as the one shown on the card (14 squares). Just note that using the public cards this way is a variant of mine.

I see illegal placement of buildings and monuments on the map.

The final building yes. Which monument do you see placed illegally?
