Take on the role of the great leaders of the past to build your own Ancient City.
Each player will use their Gold each round to build tiles that will increase their city's economy. A city that produces more food and generates commerce brings more population. Make your city grow! There are 5 types of buildings, and each of them provides a type of resource that will make your city evolve from a simple settlement to the largest city in the world. To place new buildings to your city, you will also need a lot of roads. As important as the buildings, are its monuments and wonders tokens. This will bring you a lot of victory points, but will consume all your Gold. Be wise in choosing when and where to place it. If your Gold runs out, your turn is also over. Once all players have spent their Gold, a new round will begin and new buildings and roads will be available to everyone.
In the end, as soon as a player reaches the maximum population limit, the leader of the best city in the ancient world will be the winner of World Wonders!

5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
    2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
    1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
1.0 - A game that is just bad.

The wonders give you points, maybe resources, allow you to surround buildings and to get adjacency to natural resources for a single gold. It´s a lot!!

This is such a satisfying polyomino puzzle. It's always great to look at your city you've build, with all those world wonders :)

Alex, I love your videos man and I watch you more than any other channel besides The Dice Tower so this is not me bashing you or nitpicking you I just found this fascinating. I noticed a few videos ago that you say the phrase “over here” quite a bit. I counted in this video and in the first four minutes you said over here 23 times lol I just thought you might find that interesting. Keep up the good videos man.

I really like this game, the restrictions are the thing that makes it so interesting for me just as you mentioned. One thing that bugs me though is that I feel like the wonders are not the real star, sometimes I even feel like the optimal play might be to mostly ignore them. They often break your districts and/or roads, and might make you do suboptimal choices during the game just to get them. And in a 3-4 players game it definately doesn't worth to drop out from the turn because of them. I feel like it should have been agonizing decision to drop out early for a great wonder, but currently they are just good to have things that give you very little extra at the end of the turn, but might ruin your districts/roads.

Yep love me some polyomino. Have in the collection Foundations of Rome, World of Wonders, Grand Carnival, Feast for Odin, Patchwork, BarenPark... I think that's all? I'm probably missing one.

I wish the art and graphic design was more inspiring because love me some polynomials! Still, I will try it out if I get the chance.

Totally agree about it lacking at 2 players. Unfortunately, because of that, I’m probably gonna have to let it go.

To tighten up the two player game, maybe you could add the solo deck as a simulated third player?

      That is a great idea!

A few modifications would have to be made:
      1. The rules say the Automa always goes first. The two players would only be able to buy the second player token.
      2. The round would end once both players’ rounds come to an end.
      3. I’m not sure how to handle scoring for the Automa. Perhaps add the highest resource tracks between the two players to figure out its score? That would require some play testing.

I've been intrigued by this one but gonna wait for Foundations of Metropolis before deciding which one to get. I prefer a little more player interaction in my games these days.

How does it compare to Planet Unknown, Isle of Cats, Wild Tiled West, My City, and others

With 3 or 4 players - does it make sense, that you just put out 5 wonders to be more flexible?

    • @BoardGameCo
      @BoardGameCo  Před 3 měsíci

You put out more polyominos but not more wonders

I like the idea of this game but it looks like a game from the 90s.

Is this the same company that made Foundations of Rome? I'm a bit puzzled why this game's art looks so ugly compared to that, imo.
