Great video. Love Tarrant's cadence and locution. Played this as GenCon. It was the "game of the Con" for us. Appreciate this as a refresher. Glad to see AI art being used. That should allow board games to flourish, since you cannot have the same few artists doing all the artwork for games. And, as we have seen recently with a KS, there can be trademark and copyright issues when you hire human artists.
Great! Another wonderful video. Thank you.
Your instructional videos are always very easy to understand. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words!
Thanks for the teach, Tarrant. Lots of decisions to make and a lot going on for such a smallish size game. Understandably, I can’t help getting those 7 wonders vibes.
Ah yes the 7 Wonders Vibe! Thanks so much
Great video, thanks !
Thank you 🙏
When and where is this available? Looks great. Good teach!
It was an Essen Spiel release. Thank you Jason.
Any idea about a US release?
I played Through the Ages and loved it but it was too long. I'm looking at this and Mosaic among others. What are your favourite civ themes games that are 1-2hrs?
This is definitely under that time, then Khora. First Empires has more luck, but I think a great entry to civ game!
One minor mistake:
07:50 The cards would grant a total of 8 rersources, not 7 (you've missed the one on "Worship")
The one on Worship doesn't count, since the card isn't put on "B" phase activation slot
The use of AI art is addressed on the back of the rulebook: "The elements of this game are not the result of a simple request to an Artificial Intelligence. Instead, they are the product of an artistic direction process that includes compositing, editing, and careful retouching by real humans with real bits of neurons."
So yes, AI was used, which leverages image banks, which contain art made by real people and manipulates it... Then, these pieces are touched up, and the six-fingered hands and whatnot are removed. While this sort of thing may eventually make human art in games outmoded, AI's threat to programmers and those who work in technical support is much more likely to be obsolete that type of work long before it dents artists and creatives. Welcome or not, our robot overlords are coming. Time to reskill.
Looks like it might be a good game. But the publisher decided to use AI art rather than pay artists. So this game is a hard pass for me. Everyone has different feelings about this topic, but I have favorite artists who make board games come alive. And I don’t want them to be replaced by AI tools that steal artists’ work.
Oh we didn't know about this
@@MeepleUniversity Yes, I understand that it’s not a problem for a lot of people. The Dice Tower review didn’t mention it in their review and didn’t seem to respond to comments about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I understand that it can be difficult financially to get a game to print. If it’s successful, maybe the publisher will do a printing with artwork from human artists :)
@@Luke_L Thank you for sharing Luke. Yes it could be and might be.
On another video It was mentioned that there was a statement in the rulebook that states that AI was used only for concepts and ideas and as a supplement to real artists. Although that still sounds extremely vague, Its a bit easier to digest. I don't necessarily have an issue with AI art on a cost saving aspect but I wanna see the benefits of that as an consumer. As it stands, this game is a $80 game. I have an issue with that
So no games made with an artist using a computer, or photoshop, or an Apple Pencil then… because NO technological tools for artists to use on games! It all has to be hand done like they would do before electronics came about… got it. [shakes head]
