St. Athanasius & Why Atheism in on the Rise‏

  • In his profound work on the Incarnation, St. Athanasius explains that there are at least three ways man can come to know God without fail: (i) looking up at God’s ordered and harmonious Creation; (ii) seeking the guidance and example of holy men; (iii) studying God’s Divine Revelation. All of these have been displaced and replaced by imaginings of modern man and the crafty devices of the devils. Now we explain away the Cosmos with pseudo-science, making it all... more or less due to chance. Our holy men are being suppressed and sidelined while the rational and worldly-minded men are elevated to demigod status. Divine Revelation is gutted of its meaning or dismissed altogether being replaced by modern man's writings... constitutions, charters and declarations of the rights of man. As a result, a vacuum is produced causing atheism to rise, while occultism and Islamism fill in the empty places. How important it is, then, for us to LOOK UP and see the harmony of God's Creation (to study Creation...as this is one of the first things Moses did with the Israelites in coming out of Egypt in writing the Pentateuch)... to strive to be holy and follow good and faithful priests, and finally to study our Holy Catholic Faith. In this way, atheism will not be allowed to grow in us and around us ... with the atheist given the chance to once again know God! Mark Hermanson Facts? Atheism is a religion and it's dogmas have no certainty, absolutely none. There are honest, confused atheists that had bad catechesis or are seeking the Truth and through bad encounters (probably with Protestantism) did not find any truth in Christianity. Funny thing is, the more they honestly search for the Truth, the more closer they are to the Catholic Church - holy Mother Church which has the FULL means of salvation.
      It is not without reason that most of the antiquity converted to Catholicism. Stoics were not idiots. Same as for the rest of the Greeks and Jews.

    It's pretty clear this preacher has no clue as to why so many are becoming atheist. Tyranny and intolerance of out dated religious dogmas are being rejected. Many are reading " sacred writings " , including the Bible and Quran, and are finding many inconsistencies. Many realize that racism, division, prejudice are all by- products of many religious teachings. These are but a few of the true reasons any are leaving the religions.

    • @jacquesellul9962
      @jacquesellul9962 Před 7 lety +11

      jstube36 First chapter of the St. Paul's letter to the Romans explains atheism alot. Indulgence in sin, nothing more. Once you leave God, the only honest alternative is vulgar utilitiarianism.
      As for incosistencies...where do you find them? Are you interpreting the Sacred Scripture privately or through the Magisterium and the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church? Catholic Church compiled the Bible, while the God is it's author - as long as it is divinely inspired - where all of the books of the official canon are. Only the Catholic Church can interpret the Sacred Scripture correctly.

    • @jstube36
      @jstube36 Před 7 lety +1

      There are indeed inconsistencies and errors is some of the scriptures. Genesis tells us the Sun and Stars came after the forming of the Earth. We know now that The Sun and Stars existed well before the Earth. And when the serpent was tempting the Women, the writing says "she SAW the fruit was good to eat", then "they ate and their eyes were open" How can she see the fruit if her eyes were not open. And that is just Genesis. There are other confusions in the Bible as well as the Quran.

    • @jacquesellul9962
      @jacquesellul9962 Před 7 lety +8

      jstube36, the main point of the Sacred Scripture is the second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ. What you are doing here is what Protestants have been doing for over 500 years and counting - sola scriptura or private interpretation, which is erroneous/heretical and leads too all kinds of incosistencies, as you can see with 40 000 + Protestant Denominations, along many of them losing the little faith they have, because most of their explanation is so faulty that the only thread Protestant members hang on to are feelings and emotions.
      But to answer your question (1 Pt. 3:15). Our first parent's eyes were opened not in a physical sense, but to the reality of mortal sin, since they lost the state of original grace and innocence. They became conscious of that. Meaning what? Meaning that before the fall, Adam and Eve had preternatural gifts (infused knowledge, absence of concupiscence, and bodily immortality), all the theological virtues (faith, hope and charity) and all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. So, before the fall, Adam and Eve had preternatural gifts and the sanctyfing grace. Look up those in dictionary since my comment is already too long.
      Again, meaning what? Meaning that Adam when he would get angry at Eve, he would be angry in adequate and perfect measure (with perfect charity, mind you) and then he would immediately stop. Or to give you another example...you know the experience when you follow your passions and eat too much? Adam did not have that before the fall. He did not have the concupiscence like we do. Women today would not have any pain at childbirth etc. Which is why the Fall is so tragic, but at the same time, it is the happy fault, since it brought us Reedemer. Even procreative act (by the vulgar term of "sex", which is absolute minefield today for mortal sin) would be much, much better if our original parents obeyed God. You want to know why people die today? Why we have to die today? Because of Adam. Why? Since the Adam did not obey God and practically disconnected from Him (while God did not leaved us, ever), our flesh does not obey the spirit and one day it has to seperate. Without the rebellion of Adam, we would not have to die.
      As for what came first, I will trust the word of God himself. I repeat, the main point of Sacred Scripture is not to give you a scientific explanation of the world (which it does in some books, without error), but to serve you as a means to get to Heaven. To serve you as a means to know Jesus Christ more, since he is literally everywhere, all over the Old Testament.
      As regarding the Quran, you can calmly burn it. Mohhammed got his ideas from a heretical Catholic priest and used force when the people did not believe his private revelation. I don't want to even comment on the verses where Mohammed says he got inspired by Satan. How can people follow this demonic maniac is completely out of me. Islam is basically Protestantism, but for the desert people. Private interpretation, religion of the book, no authority regarding interpretation...it is just chaotic. And to top that off, Islam promises extensions of earthly pleasures in the next life...it is just obvious that the Islam is a false religion.
      God the Father said everything he wants to say in the person of Jesus Christ.

    • @jstube36
      @jstube36 Před 7 lety +1

      Well perhaps the problem is not the "word" of God but whomever wrote that word. This is why think the time has come for the Bible, and other"sacred writings" to have a bit of a makeover. For instance the part of the Earth coming before the Sun is incorrect and should be corrected. Now the Moon did come after the formation of Earth. So that part would remain. I do believe it's possible to mofify the writings without losing any spiritual intent.

    • @jacquesellul9962
      @jacquesellul9962 Před 7 lety +4

      jstube36 Books were inspired by the Holy Spirit and God used men to write those books - in the case of Genesis, that would be Moses. There cannot be any contradiction between faith and reason, since God is the author of both. But there can by contradiction between faith and hypotheses, in which the former is always more certain and true.
      For example, I don't fully understand the Holy Trinity either, but that does not deny that it does exist. The problem is with my limitations (or I give too much credit to reason), not the Holy Trinity.

    As an ex-Christian who now actively explores the world of the occult & metaphysical, and has also come to really respect atheists, I'd like to chime in.
    "St. Athanasius explains that there are at least three ways man can come to know God without fail:"
    All three fail from the start.
    "(i) looking up at God’s ordered and harmonious Creation;"
    This is circular reasoning. To accept this point, you have to assume God exists first. It's assuming very thing that it's supposed to prove. And even if the universe was created, that doesn't tell you *what* created it. A meteor creates an impact creator when it hits the ground. A large group of trees "create" a forest. Not all creation is intelligent and purposeful. Also, order and harmony are not proof of a creator. Intelligent beings make messes all the time, and mindless objects with a few simple parameters can make very orderly patterns. It's not indicative of a higher power.
    (ii) seeking the guidance and example of holy men;
    I'm demonstrating right now how this saint didn't know what he what he was talking about because all three of his "ways to know God without fail" contain at least one logical fallacy. Even this one. Because, "holy" according to who, and why? This is just more question begging. Seeking holy men presupposes a definition of "holy." Again, this doesn't prove the deity in question, and if a holy man isn't concerned with having proof, then "holy" could just be code for "brainwashed and happy about it." . . . Like a saint who thinks logical fallacies are ways to know God without fail.
    (iii) studying God’s Divine Revelation.
    Same problem as (i) and (ii): presupposing the answer without ever proving it. Calling your religious texts "divinely inspired" doesn't make them so. The Bible is full of ancient ignorance and barbarism typical of its time. The reason we place our own written constitutions and charters above scripture, is because they *are* above them. The authors of Genesis thought you could breed striped animals by having them mate while looking at a striped object. We've genetically engineered drought-resistant grain. Exodus tells you how to practice slavery as a god-given right, we abolished slavery. The New Testament tells us how God will cast those who break even the silliest of his laws into a lake of fire because that somehow "glorifies" him. In America criticizing the president is an explicit constitutional right and we can even throw the president in jail.
    The real reason that atheism is on the rise is because more and more people are thinking honestly and realizing they simply don't have any solid basis to believe in a god and Christians keep failing miserably, repeatedly, and dishonestly to demonstrate that one exists, but keep repeating those same already-refuted arguments over and over again to the point that it suggests a learning disability. The reason is because our so-called "deficient" scientific models have already thoroughly exposed that Christianity and its texts never had a clue how the natural world works.
    Look it's cool to be open minded and want to explore the unknown, but it falls on all of us to do this rationally. Logical fallacies have to be avoided, the burden of proof understood, and emotional appeals distinguished from facts. This sermon is nothing more than a deluded man blaming reality on devils to justify his further decent into self-inflicted brainwashing.

      Paul Blessing Call the occult by it's real name - demonic superstition.
      Cause and effect. Pagan philosophers understood there is God since by looking at creation, cause and effect, you will eventually come to the Unmoved Mover. But the Greek philosophy stopped there regarding God until the Revelation and the coming of St. Thomas Aquinas, who by the grace of God, practically baptized the greek philosophy. God exists - he is existence himself - and without Him, we would not even talk now.
      For more proof, see five ways of St. Thomas Aquinas and Kreeft's 20 arguments for God's existence. Nobody refuted the five ways.
      Come back to the Catholic Church and repent, since the kingdom of God is at hand. I don't want to see anybody in Hell, when the other choice is the infinite love of God Himself. You will be in my prayers.
