  • @chrishaswell4405

    I understand you aren't critical of Howe but im wondering where the observations come from - great coach showed that at Bournemouth, with a very thin squad brough them into the Premier and played great football - great man manager unbelievable coach in regards to improving players, his style is PERFECT for us up here high energy, attacking, pressing, is still learning how to adapt away at the big big clubs which i think he will, hes working with a very small group of quality players and the rest are mid table level players so if we adding 1 or 2 quality players in the next 2 windows each, i think we'll be ready to really start upsetting the big boys

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g Před 6 měsíci +1

      I think the argument is that while Newcastle may eventually end up with a squad that's comparable to other title contenders, they won't have one that eclipses them. Therefore, they will need a truly elite manager who, on his own, can win significant points and make a difference. The truly elite managers have everything that very good managers, which Howe undoubtedly is, do plus something extra. In the modern game, we're talking Guardiola, Ancelotti and Klopp. I'm guessing Simon et al don't see that 'extra' in Eddie Howe. I don't either.. as yet. I like him and am open to the possibility that he will step up and find that something extra. He's managed to step up at every other opportunity in his career so far, so I wouldn't rule it out this time either. I think we haven't seen either him or another coach I really like - RDZ - in a situation where they're managing big name, elite players. That's obviously difficult or everyone would just rock up to training with lopsided eyebrows smoking a cigarette like Ancelotti and win things. Howe has changed the culture and set the mood at Newcastle in a very impressive way. The open question is whether the way he's done it survives big names coming in on big money. If I were a Newcastle supporter, I'd want steady progress along the current lines instead of swinging for the fences, to give it the best chance of working with Howe and maintaining the ethos of the club. Part of the reason Newcastle and Howe are getting plaudits is that they didn't just bruteforce their rise up the league by buying everything that moves and is willing to move to Newcastle - they've bought some good players, revived the careers of others who were undervalued, and improved the players already there - what one would term 'doing it the right way'.

    • @chrishaswell4405
      @chrishaswell4405 Před 6 měsíci

      @paulie-g I agree with lots of what you said - but to make a judgement about Howe not being able to compete right at the top is more of a British mindset IMO because for so long European managers have dominated the Prem but I would say if Howes passport said Spanish and it was Edwardo Garcia people make look at him at lot differently IMO - the good thing is its all going to play out and we will see who is correct. I believe he has bought a bunch of time with the owners and fans due to his turnaround in such a short space of time, from a fans perspective if we don't win a trophy this season and don't make Champions league I can't imagine majority of fans wanting to see him replaced - we've had our best times with English managers, Keegan, Sir Bobby and now Howe, I feel the understand the club and city better than any European manager could

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g Před 6 měsíci

      @@chrishaswell4405 You necessarily make a judgement based on the information you have. Pundits don't get to just say "we'll see, won't we". Personally, although I like the play style he has put in, I don't see a great deal of tactical flexibility in-game or game to game. Newcastle are also not controlling games the way a top 2 side does, which we sort of brush aside because we understand they don't have a top 2 squad and are way ahead in their development and results vs expectation. Howe has not been tested at CL level. All of this adds up to "as of right now, there is not a lot of positive proof that he's an elite manager." There is some, though. He's clearly shown an ability to improve players massively, whether it's Joelinton or Gordon (but puzzlingly not Saint-Maximin). On balance, as of right now you'd have to say 'no', but can't rule out a 'yes'. If I were a Newcastle fan, I'd certainly want to stay on the ride and find out. At some point, he'll either butt up against his limitations or he won't. You certainly can't point to many managers and say they'd have done better so far. I'm not sure a southern soft lad like Howe has a great advantage in understanding Newcastle vs a continental manager - he's never taken his shirt off in public as far as I'm aware, he's never tried to punch a horse, a lot of work still to do ;)

    • @chrishaswell4405
      @chrishaswell4405 Před 6 měsíci

      @paulie-g lmao I understand the sarcasm at the end but he doesn't have to be out with lads on Friday night down the big market to prove he fit in lol , and again i agree tactically he's not a Pep, but who is to be honest. I'd use Klopp as example who has a style and he rode the style of play all the way to a champions league and a premier league, he was just lucky he got VVD and Alison who enabled that style to work and those 2 could cover for a lack of tactical prowess IMO he wanted to play a high line and press like crazy - I feel Nick Pope is the clear weakness in our team currently great shot stopper but ever since he was sent off vs Liverpool last season and missed the cup final he's clearly lost his confidence when it comes to sweeping behind the back 4, so again we will see but until Howe proves he can't take us any further with a better squad we 100% believe he's the man to take us to where we want to go

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g Před 6 měsíci

      @@chrishaswell4405 You've got it a bit backwards with Klopp - yes, you always want to compress the pitch when you're pressing, but he only moved that backline that suicidally high *because* he had VVD (and VAR came in, which made playing successful offside traps now worked 100% of the time). He's actually developed and evolved the style significantly over the years - we are now no longer a gung ho, fast and direct high-block pressing side creating chances from possession regains - we press selectively from a mid-block and are a possession-dominant side predominantly playing mid-tempo most of the time (this is because we can't play at that intensity given the number of games we now play, we no longer have Bobby, and also because few teams are stupid enough to let us run at them in transition).
      Pope has never struck me as a sweeper keeper, so you're going to need a new one if that's core to Howe wants to play. Haven't watched enough of yous to say if he's enough of a problem, I'd probably upgrade the midfield first (whatever Longstaff you have left specifically), and someone more reliable than Almiron. But yeah, absolutely give Howe a go and see where you get to. He may well surprise us all. In the meantime, yous lot are a great watch. I place him, along with RDZ, in the bracket of exciting young up and coming coaches who are as yet unproven but whom I like and want to see succeed (obviously not at our expense).

      @dondamon4669 Klopp certainly endears himself to people with his personality, but he also had a distinctive style of play which took shape more or less straight away, everyone could see what he was trying to implement because it was consistent with his style at Mainsz and Dortmund.
      As a neutral fan, I couldn't tell you what style of play ETH is trying to implement, but it definitely doesn't look like what he formed at Ajax, and we've had 50+ games for him to implement whatever he's trying to build.
      United overachieved last season, but they are massively underperforming this season, albeit in the midst of an injury crisis, so it's fair to criticise him for that.
      He'd have more credit with people if we could see an end point, i.e. a distinctive style of play. Perhaps he's hamstrung by the injuries, but as players start coming back there will need to be an improvement or he'll be out within the next few months.

Emery has the titles and Howe doesnt. But there is absolulty no reason why Howe cant grow with this Newcastle team. We already place him in the same bracket as Keegan and Sir Bobby and he's only been here 2 years.
    I also think the fact he's English doesnt make him fashionable so the elite clubs look over him and go for Poch or ten Hagg - and in my opinion Howes already at that level.

    I dont understand how these guys rate Potter so highly. He is useless, everybody forgets that at Brighton he only managed to win 7 points from an 11 game run.

    Dargah being there makes Simon more tolerable. Simon obviously has respect for him, so tailors and calms his usual brash behaviour for that very reason.

    Hard to judge Potter at Chelsea as even Poch isn’t really doing better and the spending has continued. Man Utd would be a great fit in some ways but the problems there would make it a similar scenario to Chelsea. He couldn’t turn it down but they shouldn’t go to him.
    He’d do well at most prem clubs though I think.

    Have these people got nothing else to talk about - Potter at Utd, give me a break - glad even Simon put that to bed. The problem with everyone nowadays is they are so reactionary, and have no patience….rebuilds are hard and take time. Arteta finished in 8th, 8th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd so it took him 4 seasons to begin getting things right.
    The greatest manager ever Sir Alex Ferguson finished 11th, 2nd, 12th, 13th, 6th, 2nd, then 1st so it was not until his 7th league campaign that he won the league, then for the next 21 years Utd never finished lower than 3rd three times, and were either 1st or 2nd for 18 of those 21 years. I’m in no way saying ETH is Sir Alex, but he needs time, the issues at Utd are so bad no one is going to solve them overnight.
