    I never bothered to write a comment like this on your channel (that I can remember), but I'll do it now. Your reviews and teardowns have been excellent for introducing me to keyboards. Watching your channel for the past few years, seeing the progress keyboards and switches have made in that time, and seeing how stagnant some of these big name manufacturers insist on being has been such an eye opening experience. It's passionate people like you who keep people like me in the loop, and I appreciate it a lot.

      Can't speak for the others but the K70 Pro Mini at least advertises hot-swappable switches. Corsair are capable of doing it, much like they are with having detachable cables (even with keyboards with a pass-through USB), they just don't. They sell based on brand recognition and iconic look, rather than if it's better than the competition, and this is coming from someone with a K100.

    • @Chyrosran22
      @Chyrosran22  Před 5 měsíci +5

      I haven't written the script to the K70 Max yet, so take everything with a big prelim grain of salt, but it is the kind of keyboard that they should be focusing on. It makes no sense for a company that charges premium rates to stick with technology that's vastly inferior and outdated. If you want to charge top dollar, you should be offering the cutting edge. The K70 Max has that potential, the K70 Core is the exact opposite.

    8:39 You don't. That's exactly what this big corpos want. They don't want you to repair your stuff so you have to buy a new one every time the product breaks. For me is clear as water that those are they intentions as soon as they refused to show you how to disassemble the keyboard.

    • @Chyrosran22
      @Chyrosran22  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, naturally. It's revolting though, I hate this sort of throwaway product. Especially in keyboards, there's such a good opportunity to make a great product that people can trust in to last them a lifetime.
      My Zenith from 1988 has been through some bad shit and it's STILL GOING after 35 years of loyal service. I've had to do a bit of work on it, but nothing major, and that's fine anyway. You get to use the keyboard you know and love, and can be confident it's still running years after.
      A keyboard is a product you shouldn't mind to sink a bit of good money into if it's one you really like, IMO. But it has to last, that's its whole point. That's why it becomes YOUR keyboard. You can't charge a stiff premium AND make a crap product at the same time, it's just not done.

    THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT 100 IS NOT BUDGET!!! And unfortunately we all understand that we are buying a name, and that is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Like whatever you like. That is what this channel has taught me. Im not ashamed that I like keyboards that other reviews call junk, like OMG my daily driver is a modded BLUE switch WALMART keyboard, that i put some filler and rubber inside, i tapped the PCB and got a set of epomaker keycaps, and it a sound that is kinda close to a Model M, but that is what I like, I LOVE the blue switch, when im working it sounds like a computer room from the mid 80s. But experiment, and like what you like, and dont let any holyer than thou reviewer tell you that what you like is junk, just because they use a hippo or funky channel logo, dose not make them any better than you are. Thats why I only follow this channel. Ive had my fill of self made idiot reviewers, who would tell you anything to get that next sponsorship. Its easy tell you that whatever new switch on the market is either the best thin or worst thing, when they aren't the one having to pay anything for their supposed passion..........ok ill take my ass off my soap box. Wait, I do have to ask that how did you get MX blue clones (and esp that switch type) to sound good like that, like I thought the idea is density and community mods like the tape mod is a bad thing for clicky keyboards, I kinda wonder what it sounds like actually, certainly is unique that's for sure.
      for me personally, I actually also aimed to go for a older keyboard sound but what I did was just take a Bauer Lite and throw Clickiez on it, which is far more expensive but so far sounds quite ALPS like (bauers are pretty hollow for an enthusiast keyboard design), but then again sound wise I got a close but worse result on some $20 aliexpress tester68 kit with the same Clickiez too, after removing all the dampening in the keyboard, but moved to the more expensive BL because I just wanted to be able to have muh QMK and not have the PCB die in a year like what eventually happened.

  • @Pastill-
    @Pastill- Před 5 měsíci +11

    When they meant it's a budget keyboard they meant it's a cheap keyboard to manufacture.
    You can get a fully aluminium keyboard with doubleshot keycaps, decent switches + hotswap and good stabilizers for less than 90$ (womier sk71)
    or just a barebones full aluminium keyboard for less than 55$ (sugar65).
    Even if the K70 Core was sold at 60 dollars it would still be considered a scam board, that's how bad this keyboard is.

    • @roundduckkira
      @roundduckkira Před 5 měsíci

      or a nicer QMK alu custom keyboard kit for $100 known as the Neo65, or or the monsgeek m1 for $100, or the cycle 7 for the price of the old K70s, or the Keychron V for half the price, even the Bauer Lite which has had similar "it's outdated for the current market" criticisms just smashes this thing (and is great for clicky switches heh) for the price, wtf...

    Thanks for being honest about the chattering issue on this bad keyboard and also many many other metal contact switched keyboards Thomas.
    That's why keyboard manufacturers "switched" to optical and magnetic switches to get rid of the chatter problem permenantly. (And they hide it under the reason that so called those optical or magnetic switches are "quicker responding" :)) Which is also misleading statement and hiding the true intent of using these more sophisticated technology switches. Which is the metal contact switches sooner or later develop chatter and there is nothing you can do about it.
    The future of mechanical keyboard switches are either optical or magnetic ones. If a keyboard doesn't have either of those then at least it must have hotswappable option for user servicibility.
    This keyboard is nothing but a toy now with all those chattering switches. Unusable and annoying at best. Can't change those switches easily also since they are all soldered to the PCB... the switches are not hotswappable (
    People will also slowly realize that 50million-70 million-100million keypress durability count for metal contact switch reliability is clearly a lie.
    They develop chatter way much early and often. And let alone chatter, they can also develop unresponsiveness. You can somehow "tame" chatter from the software side but what will you going to do when a meal contact switch develops unresponsiveness ? which is not an uncommon thing.
    As you also said very nicely: Peoples' "Kilometreage" may vary :)

    • @Chyrosran22
      @Chyrosran22  Před 5 měsíci +9

      You're bang on. I've noticed this a long time ago; rubber dome keyboards aren't actually less reliable than most electromechanical keyboards, they tend to be quite durable in general. Mech keyboards have many weaknesses, especially if they get treatments like this one. Opto and Hall effect switches are almost unbreakable though, they truly are on a different level. It's this sort of technology that genuinely justifies a premium price level. This keyboard asks everything and gives nothing in return.

    • @roundduckkira
      @roundduckkira Před 5 měsíci

      @@Chyrosran22 I do think though you have got to try a modern pre-lubed MX clone linear switch though or even just experiment with lubing a few of them to see how it feels like, smoothness actually is still pretty good and comparable to contactless switches (I know it goes against logic, but lube is why) and when I did use a Razer Huntsman TE for a bit, it still felt a hair scratchy at times and 15 cent MZ Z1s similar overall. I know this doesn't relate to reliability, but it's been a minor pet peeve I had with your linear switch content in retrospect after trying those switches and demoing single other MX clones that were smoother than the Z1s. Contact-based linears in the market have gone a long way, and the frustrating aspect of hall effect and optomechanical switches is that they can't be replaced with other switches like Zeal Clickiez or Box switches.
      Just had to get that out of my system, heh. :p

    • @Chyrosran22
      @Chyrosran22  Před 5 měsíci

      @@roundduckkiraI have tried several pre-lubed switches, the ones in this video are too! Many modern switches even come pre-lubed out of the factory. None I've tried have ever held up. And it makes sense too, the physics just aren't there.

      @roundduckkira Před 5 měsíci

      @@Chyrosran22 depends on the prelubing job though like oil kings and these can at least often do it badly if not always, but yeah maybe something about my fingers doesn't probably notice any sense of friction from the actuation itself, then again I regularly use clickiez switches so I got numb fingers and am one of those said tactile junkies :p

    • @Chyrosran22
      @Chyrosran22  Před 5 měsíci

      @@roundduckkira For tactile and clicky switches it's not quite as important, in my experience. It's linear where smoothness - or lack thereof - is most strongly felt, because there is nothing to mask the friction. I've had some really bad Soviet contactless keyboards, but nowadays most manufacturers know what to do to get the most out of them and in terms of smoothness I find them unsurpassed, generally. Even contactless switches get lubed nowadays but IMO that shouldn't be necessary if a switch is sufficiently smooth. Usually it's more for sound I think, or the whole "airy vs buttery" thing I talked about recently.

      I just bought it and I dissagree with this review in every way possible. No two letters with one press, and doesn't fell as cheaply made, if not at all, as the review describes it being. His reaction may be due to being soo (double o intentional) used to the best of keyboards (similarly to how you may hear that going from 1440p BACK to 1080p is very hard, even though 1080p was ok before you saw 1440p for the first time). Just one thing to be aware of: if you intend to use such keyboards for typing, note that the switches will activate about half-way down. The double presses you may hear about are, in my opinion, due to the switch being activated, lifted up a bit, and activated again, very quickly.

    Hey, I actually bought this keyboard and I certainly had many problems, which many could be the fault of their software but I'm not sure:
    the worst of the problems, and also the main reason i sent this keyboard back, was because it often double typed many letters, even tripple typing sometimes, which wasnt even uncommon, it happened like every 10 seconds of normal writing sometimes.
    secondly, the software of this keyboard very often just "disconnected" the lighting effects would just stop and the knob would lose all its functionality (however the keys still worked), to fix this, I found no better way than plugging out and back in, which was very tedious because I always have my keyboards on the backside of my PC. This happened usually in intervals of 2-3 hours but sometimes even after just a couple of minutes.
    now there were certainly some good things I liked, such as the design (pls dont hate me), sound (please dont hate me I found it kinda good but im not very experienced) and the knob which was very satisfying to play with, I definetely wouldnt recommend this right now, but maybe later when they somehow fix this double typing and the "disconnecting".

    Some rather common keyboards in their day missing from your reviews are some of the ASCII terminal keyboards, like from the DEC VT100, ADM 3a, and HP 2621a. One of these, not sure which in particular but I think it's the HP, uses a switch you'd get a chuckle out of, it's basically a tiny pair of upside-down toast tongs that is squeezed together when you press the key. Or even some of the keyboards from before the concept of attaching them to any sort of display became common, like DEC Writers, Teletype Model 40, or IBM System/370 consoles, which are all effectively keyboards attached to terminals with a paper screen.

    Stiffer and chattering already out of the box?
    That sounds like a result of excessive factory lubing. I personally really dislike of the feel of lubed stems as they just feel sticky and wrong (there's always some dragging inertia with lube) no matter how little and light lubricant was applied.
    What makes it a lot worse is that customizing switches like that is very risky without the hot swap capability. Double the minus points for aggressive stance against opening the keyboard (what?!) in 2023.

    Corsair is offing itself by destroying their reputation as fast as possible. They used to be among the most solid recommendations in any market they competed in. Now I struggle to think of an industry that they excel in unless you look at excellent products from their past that they still sell. (Ax 1600i and some ram. Maybe a couple cases). If you ask me it all changed the moment they changed the ship logo. In reality I know it’s corpos to blame.

    Disappointed it wasn't called a coreboard. K70 Pro Mini at least advertises hot-swappable switches. Corsair are capable of doing it, much like they are with having detachable cables (even with keyboards with a pass-through USB), they just don't. They sell based on brand recognition and iconic look, rather than if it's better than the competition, and this is coming from someone with a K100.

    For as much crap as you give Cherry MX, it at least has pretty solid durability. AFAIK people don't complain about chattering on them, it's not a good look when you call clones better and have that very same thing fail in your own review. And didn't Cherry retool their switches a couple of years back? Sure Cherry MX is missing some bells and whistles of certain clones, but if they're going to malfunction prematurely then they might not be worth it for some users. The same goes for the questionable Chinese brands you recommend, there may be some worthwhile ones, but the pejorative word Chinesium exists for a reason. Before anyone misconstrues this as a defense of Corsair, this junky keyboard might as well be from a no name marque from China.
