    Today we look at the new K70 Core, a more budget-oriented version of the venerable K70. This one is kind of an overhaul from previous versions, so I was pretty interested to see what they had done to it!

    corsairs naming scheme has no meaning anymore. they have a wireless 60% that they call the k70. and the k65 that used to be the tkl is now a 60% and there is also a k70 that is a tkl and now a full size that is called the k70 and another k70 full size that is now called the k70 max, its what the k70 used to only be. they have 5 keyboards that are called the k70

    Do you see any mainstream boards approaching the heights of the 80s alps, IBM boards, etc. in terms of quality?
    Also, fan request: unicomp 122 battle cruiser. How does it compare to the IBM battle cruiser.

      Oh god, I hate the M2! This was the keyboard that people were upgrading to membrane keyboards FROM, it was so bad.
      It looked sweet, though.

    Hi Thomas.

    Yoooo The Hobbit pub mentioned!? There's a local pub in Southampton called the Hobbit which has drinks themed like this. It's been around for years and beloved by locals. It once almost got shut down or told to change its theme because of copyright but Sir Ian McKellen supported it! I love to see such a small reference

    Not being hotswappable is now considered a negative in today's landscape. Why are commercial keyboard companies so behind in that? Even cheap keyboards like the Redragon and the Royal Kludge KBs are. Why Corsair?
    Still wished they put their Optoelectrics with analog settings in these instead. The K100 is still too pricey for a keyboard with that tech and have it not adjustable.

    • @Billy_The_Frog

      Ikr, a $50+ keyboard has hotswap but a $100+ mainstream keyboard doesn't

    I did see their new K70 (which is a 60% one weirdly) on offer, was tempted to get that for travel since my project's client uses awful Dell chiclet keyboards with very oddly stiff keys, but always needs me to fit it in cabin baggage and not be too weighty.
    I'm using their K100 with their OPX switches at home. Two main complaints:
    The cable is still built into the board (why Corsair, please just put a type-C port on it like every bugger else has started doing)
    There is still spring ping in the housing. Bit annoying, can't really be user fixed.

    I purchased a K70 model in 2017. I haven't been using it since your Ace Pad Tech Hall effect recommendation in 2019.
    LENGTHY RAMBLING PROCEEDS:
    I feel the APT board is weakest in its build quality, and great in terms of switches.
    With the K70, my prioritized complaint is the switches. They're satisfactory if you're coming from $20 membrane boards, and certainly an upgrade. But I feel the typing experience is maybe weak, mushy... like less strong of an action, or less satisfying. More flat. Dull. Uneventful. Kind of gross.
    When I type on the Ace Pad Tech hall effect switches, the key strokes feel impactful and clear. Intended a bit more, I guess. Purposeful.
    But every time I tried switching back to the K70 to verify for myself that the Hall effect switch was better, I'd switch back to the APT and instantly know it to be more satisfying and better. So Cherry MX Red versus Hall effect.
    I want to purchase a new board, but I want to keep the same switches. LOL I have no complaints.
    The problem is I have a 60% board. I want to move up to a 75% board, I believe. Well. I want a compact all-the-keys-smashed-together, a function row, dedicated arrow keys... and that's the request, really. I've seen a few such things, including hot swaps...
    But I don't have the extra Hall effect switches! Oh, no!
    EDIT: The edit was for the fifth line, where I mistakenly wrote "when I type on the K70, the key strokes feel impactful and clear." I adjusted this to be about the APT's hall effect switches, as I intended.

    Lol. Corsair and major change in the same sentence. The company struggles so hard against stagnation. Standard bottom row didn't come until 2020. Hot swap and gasket mount are probably going to take another 5 years

      Ah, that's a hard one. Probably a terpenoid of some kind, possibly camphor? If restricted to just solvents, it's gotta be toluene, followed by Et2O. EtOAc is one of my least favourite ones, actually.

    I still use a K70 from 2015 and I do not like the palmrest and volume knob on this new core. The old palmrest was a bit curved and had a soft touch texture which felt nice. As to the volume knob, the lying down one was great for quick volume changes with a single finger instead of having to grab it with your thumb and index

    • @SuchtFaktorHoch10
      @SuchtFaktorHoch10 Před 7 měsíci

      Same here.
      Palm rest on the old one was shorter. I like that more because the keyboard doesn't feel so big.
      The lying down knob is superior. looks better and usage is more fluent and natural.
      But the magentic plam rest is of course a thing I would absolutely like to have.

    I wonder if Corsair decided to refresh the look of the product due to how many no-name brands were copying the general aesthetic of the K70. A cheap mechanical board I got out of a $5 barain bin (Retail was like $50 at the time) five-six years ago has a clone of the older K70 top plate without the knob or extra features. I also know Corsair's naming no longer has any meaning, there's so many K70s now that you might actually need to count on both hands to keep track of them all, and I also know that the design language is not cohesive through the product range; so maybe that's also what the change in aesthetics is going to bring, cohesiveness for multiple models.
    This new product feels so antiquated in comparison to the current market, and overpriced as well. But that's par for the course with this company, the umbrella as a whole, considering even their premium sub-brands like Scuf also suffer from absolutely braindead decisions, high prices, and poor quality, and just look at the K70 as a whole, there's no consistency for what gets the name, they just know that the name sells no matter what it is, these are massive red flags; as if the Corsair umbrella doesn't already have enough red flags, such as how Scuf's website tries to constantly upsell you on gamer goop (anti-sweat grip stuff, IIRC) and 'gamer pillows' (things you can wrest your hands on while holding a controller) constantly, even at checkout. Honestly I feel like brand recognition is 90% of their customer flow these days, as they fell from grace long ago, especially when the triangle of price, quality, and features is so heavily skewed towards high prices with lackluster quality and features; even within the Core's price bracket, you can find products that _far_ outpace what Corsair is providing, even ones that're considered semi-custom keyboards, the Core is more reminiscent of a much lower price bracket but with the brand name tax. Maybe it's time we start leaving these brand names in the dust if they refuse to offer modernity while retaining higher than typical prices for no reason, especially when quality can be questionable at best and when the brand also makes braindead decisions elsewhere.

      @bismuth7730 Před 7 měsíci

      i doubt it was actually a clone. That sort of construction is as cheap as it gets. I will never buy a keyboard constructed as this one.

    • @xaytana
      @xaytana Před 7 měsíci

      @@bismuth7730 Ah yes, tell me more about the products I literally own. I can tell you, from literal measurement, dimensions and specific angles are the same. How about you go develop some critical thinking skills before you try being an armchair expert on anything; thinking you know anything about a random unnamed product that you have no inherent knowledge of, when the other person owns and uses both products in question, makes you look like an absolute joke. You should be embarrassed of your idiocy. You also seemingly don't understand how the Chinese market, where virtually all of these clones come from, operates considering cloning recognizable products is part of the status quo, don't be surprised if you see carbon copies of the older K70s floating around on the market; again, you lack any amount of critical thinking.

  • @Stackali

      You can get a K10 Pro with red switches for about a 100 Euros, probably not quite 30 dollars but as a product this looks really basic considering it's not hot swappable and probably is a pain to open.
