  • Here’s a more detailed version of the zip tie and flip mod than my first video on it. I cover the parts you’ll need to retain, how to keep debris out, cutting the opening, and how to attach the air box to the plenum.

This was pretty cool, I wouldn't say poor man's cold air intake, it's being smart, rather than be like everyone who wants more power buys $549.99 for a new air intake, you did yours for at least $200ish probably less right?

excellent, a real cai. a bit surprised the rules allow this. i would love to see how the iat acts under normal driving with that setup. my biggest issue is.... well the hood, holds all the heat in.

Have you performed the exhaust bypass on any Titanium systems? I would love to see a video on that!

No, I haven't done that yet. I do have a couple Ti mufflers in the shop but I'll need to work on my TIG skills before I take that one on.

how has it held up over time? i'm sure it gets pretty dirty. clean install though. I want to do this to my c5

It’s held up fine. It does collect a fair amount of dirt and tire rubber from the track. I check it after every race weekend and clean it every 2 or 3.

I looked at doing this mod on my 2002 Z06 but from what I can see the two lower grill openings between the brake duct intakes direct air up to the air filter housing area. That would be cold air from outside the engine bay. I'm not sure if cutting a hole in the rad housing to take air from that area will be any cooler that what is coming in through the front grill openings? I would think you would be taking air that would be used for cooling the rad (lowering the high pressure area in front of the rad) to use for combustion. Does anyone else see this?

glad to see some thought applied to a modification based on nothing more than uninformed internet gossip, that ignores that air is constantly flowing when the car is moving. Or considering the very high possibility that the team who developed the LS 1engine was perfectly capable of designing a high function air intake system for street use. . the original design spreads the incoming air more evenly across the filter to better utilize available filtering .

@@richardelliott8352 My observation has nothing to do with the internet and everything to do with researching this possible mod for my C5. It simply appears that the air box does get cold air from outside the engine bay via the grill openings. It's simply what I can see. No need to get all worked up about it.

Based on AFR readings at WOT (dyno vs on track), I do believe the mod flows more air. That said, I would only do it on a dedicated track or race car. I have to clean the air filter at least every other race weekend. That would get irritating if it were a street car.

What do I do with the air hose? I plugged the hole with a grommet like you said. But I have the hose just hanging around there.

Are you going to disable the AIR system? If so, you can remove the air pump, etc.

@@shawn1394if you want to keep the the air system functioning, you can either extend the hose over to the original port, drill a new hole in the opposite side of the air box to move the port, or install a small cone air filter directly on the hose.
