Yep, still watching your old videos!
My 03 50th anv, z06 has the real LS6 405 Hp engine with the 243 stamp, and red fuel rail covers. And it is still unmelested and all stock, and I love it.. Thanks for all of the videos..
Same here!!!
So is mine... greetings from Europe 😎
"how do you know if it has a cam in it?" easy, won't run without one! My new exhaust system is an alloy of magnetic titanium and transparent aluminum.
I liked all the cool information you imparted here. It is going to make exploring my C5 even more interesting. Thanks!
Your exhaust could easily be 304 stainless steel if it is an aftermarket setup. 304 Stainless is NOT magnetic so a magnet will not stick to it.
The tips look identical to Z06 tips, so that is more likely.
the tips are completely a different shape.......yours are circles as apposed oval
your first 2 images are wrong, first pic is zo6, second is a zo6 with aftermarket exhaust
There's a bunch of aftermarket tips that are gonna look alike, plus the Ti exhaust has 3 pipes in/out of it and you have 2. As I say...just google it lol
My Corvette Life those tips and silencers show that they are not a zo6 catback, I have one
Chris, great information. I always learn a lot from many of your videos.. Great job.
Thank you.
Thanks Chris enjoyed the video very much for me someone who's not very mechanical I found it interesting entertaining and informing thank you very much keep the good stuff coming
🤣 Lol....cam lope proof of a cam! Good show, Chris!
This Easter egg hunting is the fun stuff😉
Great vid Chris.
Very good video a lot of information that will come in handy.
Thanks Chris for the part numbers for the intakes, hopefully thunder will get back to you and let you know what they did, I'm curious myself.
very good info. Thx.
C5 Z06 OEM exaust in Titanium say TITANIUM on it with a big text. Easy.
I’m from Louisiana I remember Thunder Racing . Built a lot of ls cars that set some records
Good video thanks👍
CORRECTION: LS1 intake has the valley on the bottom, LS6 is flat. I said that backwards in the video
My Corvette Life check the castingnr on the intake, mine is a ls6, but cant fit my hand in there as well. The castingnr should tell youbfor sure
Also, the ls1 intakes have a sensor that mounts on the top of the throat right behind the throttle body. Your car doesn't have that sensor in that spot, so that is an ls6 intake.
Hey Chris! Great walk-through. I’m pretty much in the same situation with my pre-owned 04 C5. Mods have been done to the exhaust and things that are pretty obvious. But, like you I’m still learning about my car. BTW I just installed the same Vararam duct and so far it seems to be a good buy. You’ll want to take into consideration the move of the MAF SENSOR and I would suggest you buy the screen that fits into it. Also while you’ve got it apart clean the sensor and the throttle body. The Vararam changes the airflow, which changes the fuel trims etc. Expect the car to throw codes at you as it relearns the new configuration. In my case that all settled down after about 75 miles of varied driving.
Good to know.
My 99 never threw a code when I installed the vararam, or the shorty headers..........
Great Job...Love My Corvette Life. I see you did pant the rear of the vette above tail pipes. Did you Do that yourself? I'm thinking of doing the same with mine(2004 C5 White-Red Interior) and edging of the front bottom as you did in the front but off Black. Need to move to Arizona to drive mine all year round. Keep up the great work.
The black is vinyl wrap.
Hey Chris, I remember the Z06 exhaust to have shorter tips on them as well as a more brownish hue. The first time I saw your car's exhaust I thought they looked like Corsa Performance with classic tips which are 304 stainless as well. I had a friend with a 2000 C5 (no cam) and Corsa system and it sounded similar to yours.
It you look up on google OEM C5 Z06 exhaust, you will find that the tips were chrome, and the had the rolled edge. The Corsa tips look very similar to the C6 tips that are polished on the inside and outside.
My Corvette Life Corsa has multiple tip styles. The classic tips have less of a rolled edge and look more like yours. The plot thickens, lol.
I thought that there was titanium “written” on the mufflers
Just googled it and it should state GM titanium
Chris awesome video!!! Out curiosity where did you get that Corvette flag frame at??
Google C5 exhaust enhancer plate. There are many options for sale.
What size throttle body do corvettes have stock?? Is it worth upgrading??
Hi chris,,i am new to your channel and i had a c5 in the past and know i want another,
I love your videos.great info.
Could you tell me where you got the big corvette banner,??ty nice meeting you,
I had it custom made.
@@mycorvettelife
Is there any way to get me the info , i just buit my garage ,nothing my wallls and thats what iam looking for..ty
Another great video by Chris! I've been struggling finding an affordable C5, have any advice? I'm thinking I should wait a lil longer and get into a C5 ZO6.
Honestly, Craigslist is a great resource. That is how I found mine. You may need to widen your search area. I drove 5 hours to pick up my car.
Definitely seek the C5 Z06. It's just SO much car for not much more.
GOOD IDEA I have a 02 Z06 love it
Cargurus. Put search area to 100-150 miles. Not too far. You'll find great deals! Good luck👌🏻 I'm looking to repair a few minor things on my C5 and sell it to fund the purchase of a newer vette
I'd love a C5 Z06, I just wish it had been produced in the fastback style rather than the FRC :(
That axle back is not the factory C5 Z06 axle back because the oem has 3 ports into the muffler one that goes in, and 2 that come out for each tip. Yours looked like it only had 1 going in and 1 going out. Still cool tho that its titanium ! Just thought id let you know so you can see what the actual axle back is. Have a good one
The C5Z06 doesn't have any clamps on it, and it has the word Titanium stamped, or embossed in the muffler itself. Stock C5 Base tips are oval, Z06 are round, but lots of aftermarket are round as well. I don't know if any Corvette came with perimeter bolt valve covers, and I am pretty sure that all OEM heads had the code cast in, these are probably aftermarket heads.
That is absolutely not a factory TI system from a Z06. I have owned three sets of the factory Z06 TI axle backs.
I love it very good my boy keep up and love video
Chris you have been around a lot of corvettes i was just wondering what your opinion I am going to buy my first corvette and have it narrowed down to a couple of models. I was wondering what is your opinion on which one to avoid, i know always buy the newest but i am looking at a C4 ZR-1, C5 Z06, C6 Z06, Or a C7 Stingray like 2014. So what do you think, i do have C4 experience with relatives owning them in the past.
I would avoid the C4 ZR1. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it’s just old tech. The C5 Z06 is a very good platform. You can not go wrong with that. The C6 Z06 is probably the best naturally aspirated Corvette ever made. I’m assuming you are ok with a manual transmission? The C5 and C6 Z06 were only offered with Manual. If performance is what you are after, I’d get a C6 Z06. For comfort and everyday drivability I would go with the C7 Stingray. If you are on a budget, the C5 Z06 is great.
My Corvette Life thanks for the info bud. It has really been a hard choice for me but the C6 Z06 is more than likely what ill go with because i do want the performance. However do you feel that there is a problem with the C6 dropping valves? Or is that just more of a myth & legend because I have seen plenty of C6 Z06’s with higher miles.
I think the C6s will for sure go down more in value over time, especially after the C8 arrives. I don’t think they will get at cheap as C5 or C4s are though. I could be wrong.
A C4 ZR-1 just sold on Barrett-Jackson for$19,000. Consider going to an auction. Check Mecum also, both are huge! 1,000's of cars and 100's for less than $25,000! Look at their schedules on internet for dates and cars registered.
Congrats on 2 K Subscribers Chris! Change the back ground music and you will get more. Your not in a Jazz Club my friend
👍
So I am guessing that magnetic bowl is for putting screws and stuff in? Gotta get me one.
Yep, VERY helpful!
how much gained HP do you think your car has w mods?
Any advice on what to look for when shopping for a c5? Leaky butt etc? I dont know much about vettes i just developed a crush on them.
I suggest going to CorvetteForum. They have a really good thread on there that lists everything for C5 newbies. It’s a great reference.
My Corvette Life will do. Thanks chris.
Cars.com and Autotrader
Good video,do you have any idea how hard it is to install those headers on a C5 corvette?
As a matter of fact yes. They are a royal pain.
@@mycorvettelife thank you,so let the hot rod shop do them?
@@michaeljaskiewicz7318 If I had to do it again, I would have someone else do it for me.
You ever have a issue with the EBCM module ? Do you know if the car is still drivable if it goes out ? I own a 1999 Convertible and just worried about the day it may go bad. Thanks !
I have not. It is still drivable.
Do u have to get it tuned after installing the bigger ram air bridge?
No
For the heads they might still be z06 when we installed them mech removed the numbers so people thought the car was stock...hes that guy that when we are racing and people ask he just says the car is stock even though its 640 hp at the wheel with the nitrous.
What does 853 stamped on head mean on passenger side on back?UPDATE figured it out 853 heads are 99 and 00 C5.
I realize this is a year+ old now, but wanted to share. Thunder Racing was run by Geoff Skinner, but he one owns Engine PowerSystems in Baton Rogue. Geoff is a good guy. Give him a call.
Yea I got ahold of him. He didn’t have records of cars he worked on.
My Corvette Life he basically started over from my understanding. He tuned my VortecMax truck. I want him to tune my current build.
Those ls6 intakes are good for another 26hp. Look into Dorman they are reproducing them.
Good to know. I’d really like a FAST I take but they are so damn expensive.
Don't even consider a FAST unless you purchase aftermarket heads. If you indeed have the TRex cam then OMG your 241 heads are killing it!. Truefully unless you purchase heads leave your engine AS IS! Spend the money and get the 4.10 gear ratio from RPM! Honestly that mod will completely change your car and cruising in 6th is a breeze. Keep up the great vids.
SUPERCHARGEDC4 might be dumb are you referring to 4;10 for gear ratio
Hey Chris my engine got 241 and the Carter what can you tell me about that
Same
Play at 1.5x
Chris spend a weekend and Detail that engine bay Buddy
I just took the car on a 6 hour drive.
It's like discovering who your girlfriend really is going from the showroom to the stockroom.
A tip: you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Kendall Kamden Yea, I've been watching on Flixzone} for months myself =)
I think every engine ever made has a cam in it. Exceptions being rotary valve, radial, ......
Smart...
Some stainless is non magnetic,fyi😊
Stainless steel wont magnetized either!
Its definitely not the Z06 Titanium Exhaust.
Yes its 90%stainless steel, i just bought a pair too, the engine is bulletproof, but stock suspensions are junk. Need get coils🤔
magnet won't stick to stainless eaither
I have a titanium exhaust that I took off a 2004 Z06 that I want to sell if your interested.
If the exaust were titanium, it will cost more than the whole car, is stainles steel, and I am a machinist, I know about metals.
Lol, you can buy a used Z06 Ti axle back for about $350.
Apparently not. Z06 Corvette came with titanium exhaust
My SS steel billy biat is NOT magnetic
What a 421 # instead means?
Why don't you just get it over with and put an A&A Vortec procharger on it? I did.
Because I don’t want to.
So you know. GM made all vette intakes 01-04 ls6 intakes. That's the 345 hp they were from 97-00, To 350 hp 01-04. I guess just less stuff they had to make.
I meant 241, sorry.
That is the casting number on the cylinder heads. They are different specs.
Thanks Chris.
I always watch your videos. I find them very interesting and informative.
👍
Chris, it bothers me that you have not corrected your axle back mod. It definitely is not a c5z titanium. the pipes are too big and with the wrong routing and pieced together as opposed to a single piece. They could be titanium as an aftermarket titanium muffler was created, but I would assume they are stainless. I read through the comments and the mufflers have been mentioned already.
37
The car came from GM with a cam....lol...jus sayin
Aluminum and STAINLESS STEEL are both non ferrous. = Not magnetic.
If your catback exhaust did not come from a C5Z06, it aint Ti. Its stainless bro! Do your homework before making videos!!!
I’m well aware. I’ve been doing my homework on these cars since I was 6 years old.
@@mycorvettelife Good for you and stainless steel isnt magnetic either, duh. I worked for BOC, a division of GM's hot weather testing grounds right there in your state.
next time don't shoot video after poppin ludes. Got the heavy eyelids and slow speech boy.
Thanks for explaining how a magnet works, total waste of my time.
