    My 1999 Chevy Corvette sat outside for the last 8 years and was in terrible cosmetic condition so I took 30 hours to restore it. In this video, you'll learn how I performed a 2-step paint correction and how to apply ceramic coating to every exterior surface of any car. I also install some new C6 Corvette wheels which look awesome on the C5, and we restore all the black plastic trim using two different products. Oh and the mirrors get painted, the wipers get painted, a headlight gets adjusted and all sorts of other stuff.

Put your foot in it, and if its the TH 700 automatics use your gears. I've been " stickin'" mine for 20 years . Mines never required anything more than every 4to 6 year complete flush 'n fill with the new screen,filter, 0 rings and gaskets. I've always added the one bottle of Slick-50 transmission additive and that's it. Great video and sharing your expertise on the detailing and products you use is very cool man.

    You mentioned having to replace the oil pressure sending unit. Before you do so, read the post on the C5 Corvette Forum with instructions and parts required to build and install a remote oil pressure sensor. You can hide the rig along the left fuel rail and never have to remove your intake again to replace the sending unit. Ive just completed the job myself and it's really the cat's meow. These sensors are notorious for frequent failure.

    C5's are so insanely inexpensive in my area it's almost ridiculous. Absolutely the most "bang for the buck" you can find as far as performance goes.
    For trim, Solution Finish is amazing. For hard plastic trim, I usually just scrub it with APC and ceramic coat it. I don't want to deal with reapplying products every time I see it. The coating means trim looks good for years, not great for weeks. They make trim specific coatings, but I find them unnecessary in most cases..
    I often coat half of the hood on client cars if they're hesitant to spend the extra money on a legit coating, it works everytime.. 👍👌✌

      @Mercury Grand Marquis I wouldn't consider a Charger a luxury car. I've bought and sold and driven various Chargers, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, etc., and I've driven several Hellcats, Porsches, Vipers, exotics, etc..
      For me the overall performance, fun factor and just the feeling you get behind the wheel of a C5.. it just looks and feels like a *hell* of a lot of car for the money.
      But this is just my personal experience and opinion, there is really no right or wrong. I love and appreciate all cars and am not biased in any way.
      My first car was an old '91 Mazda RX-7, so they will forever be one of my favorite cars to drive. Not a lot of incredible performance there.. I thought it was the coolest, fastest thing around at 16, driving it to high school paying $225 a month for insurance because it was a turbo.. 😁👍👌✌

  • @rayk9897
    @rayk9897 Před 5 lety +19

    First off, congrats on doing it yourself and learning. Secondly, get rid of that Chemical Guys stuff. Its junk. CarPro, Meguiar's and Griots are the go to choices for GM paint. Being of a harder nature, you need a stronger compound to cut through oxidation and get down to good clean clearcoat. But before that, I would not have used alcohol to clean dirt. Even Simple Green would have been a better choice, soap and water being the best choice. I didn't see where you cleaned the engine bay, it desperately needed it. The iron remover you used from Chemical Guys is nowhere near as strong as CarPro Iron-X. But for the tools you had on hand, the car came out as well as can be expected. However, had you used CarPro ClearCut or Griots Fast Correcting Cream, you would have seen a dramatic difference. Also, when correcting, get yourself a forehead mounted LED light. Makes it easier to see the imperfections removed while correcting. Furthermore, when removing badges, try CarPro Tar-X as its an absolutely amazing adhesive remover. Just spray and wipe. Lastly, when doing a ceramic coating, its IMPERATIVE to use a light to check your work when removing. High spots can make or break a job. I don't know where your located but if you could find a reputable shop near you, and get their opinion (which is no charge), you will see the truth in what I am typing. However, what's done is done, I am merely hoping to share some of my experience with you. Keep practicing, its the only way to learn!

      I support this comment and use the products he recommends. I use Griots Fast Correcting Cream and Sonax Perfect Finish when doing a 2 step. Also after paint correcting it's important to get all the polishing oils 100% off the paint before applying the ceramic coating. For this I use Carpro Eraser. For black trim I ceramic coat it with Kamikaze ISM. It restores faded black plastic and keeps it looking new for years without looking shiny or greasy like some dressing do. And it's super easy to use also.
