George Galloway interrupted by student who accuses him of being a racist.

    ABOUT GEORGE GALLOWAY:
Few contemporary politicians have attracted as much controversy as George Galloway. A Labour MP from 1987 to 2003, he was an outspoken critic of the policies of Tony Blair and New Labour, in particular the decision to invade Iraq. Fiery comments such as ""the best thing British troops can do is to refuse to obey illegal orders"" saw Galloway expelled from the Labour Party. But Galloway returned to the political fray by founding the Respect Party and winning Bethnal Green and Bow in the 2005 General Election. Mr Galloway re-entered Parliament in this March as MP for Bradford West and has recently provoked controversy and criticism with his comments on the rape charges against Wikileaks' Julian Assange.

It says, because you don't agree with what "we" say you will be persecuted for your opinion, that is fascism. Now I will ask you, do you just make responses without adding anything to the argument, or is your specialty purely criticizing and making assumptions that others are blind when you will not see?

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

@Noodle Boi To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Justin Roiland. Hishumor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Justin's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his character - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. His fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of his jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dab on Roiland truly ARE idiots

George Galloway has spent much of his life trying to help vulnerable people in the Middle East and South Africa as well as those in his constituency who are some of the most ethnically diverse in Britain. His constituency being Bradford where he was voted in overwhelmingly. To label him racist is fantasy.
We should remember of course that the vast majority of students who study at Oxford are right wing, coming from private education and privilege. To many of these students, politics is something they study from a book on a Thursday afternoon. To the people George represents, it is their everyday life. It is inevitable George would be up against it in that environment and I respect him for taking part.
As Owen Jones once said, his peers regarded his presence at Oxford "a result of quotas". A man from such a background could not possibly have the intelligence to be there legitimately in their eyes.
The reason the question was asked is because he was mislead in a previous visit by a union that wished to stitch the 'lefty' up.
Many of these posh boys would not even know the price of milk if you asked them let alone the real issues that trouble people in everyday life.

Are you really thick or a troll. His mother knew her son was sent to war and killed by the British and American government on a pack of lies. George Galloway knew and I knew it. How is it is your brain cannot grasp this simple fact? If an army invades another country on a pack of lies do you really believe the invaded country is going to sit back and do fuck all? Yes they have aright to fight back. That lads mother was quite right, her son was killed in order to make scum in America and Britain rich out of oil. Is your brain sub normal , can you not grasp this simple fact as either?.

You simply hate him because you have been indoctrinated to hate him. It's not really your fault, it's just that you are easily indoctrinated by the mass media. you cannot follow reason and logic. If you had lived in Germany you would have easily been indoctrinated into being a fascist. Adolf Hitler wrote that mass fascist rallies can make small worms feel they are part of a mighty dragon.I would add the mass media can warp brains like yours into believing their lies and propaganda.

Claims, such as what you have just made, abound everywhere however substantiation of the same is another point altogether. I have seen naught but reasoned argumentation on his part for all the positions he has taken. I see him pointing out a lack of the same on the positions taken by others. Until such a one sides consistently on the provably wrong end of reasoned argumentation that person remains a brave and heroic figure regardless the sea of calumny leveled against him.

@@johnmatthews5454 An interesting exercise in illogic. If Galloway were discussing 20th century communism, and consistently identified Slavo, Sachs et al. as Jews first and communists second, then your anti-semitic label might stick. But Galloway is specifically discussing Jews who oppose apartheid, so of course he identifies his examples by their religious affiliation, rather than by their politics. If he was discussing Hindus who oppose apartheid and identified examples by their faith rather than their politics or nationality, would that be anti-Hindu? Of course not. You are twisting a perfectly valid and appropriate reference in this context to create a phony and illogical allegation of anti-semitism.

Galloway is an outstanding speaker, one can only admire his oratory skills, regardless of politicial inclination. He is handling a critical situation with superb elegance. When he reacted to that flag-waving student, his response was a masterpiece. Instead of ridiculing the student, which would have been easy enough, he challenged the students to reconsider what the Isreali flag stands for, if a far-right organisation with racist and xenophibic, if not latent fascist, positions uses it and the Israelis seem to have no issue with that. And his reply to the racist accusation is another outstanding piece of oratory: his message is (which the students do not seem to have understood, otherwise they would not have asked this question) that for him, apartheid is simply an utterly indefensible, untenable ideological/political position and by debating with someone who supports apartheid as a political doctrine/ideology, whether Israeli or not, would grant this position an aura of acceptability, respectability that Galloway under no circumstances wants to give. Given his experience, not surprising.

Just because a person is intelligent enough to study a certain subject at uni, doesn't mean they are somehow incapable of being misguided or uninformed in another subject. Nobody can know everything about everything, and this is where students can trip themselves up. Nobody is denying they are smart, but being smart means you are able to research things and use your superior ability to analyse and reason and present coherent conclusions. Sometimes they forget this and assume that whatever pops into their head is also as well thought out and valid as their other opinions.

Although the student screwed up big time, (and thankfully George put him in his box), he may (or may not) learn from the experience and go on to better things. I love these oxford talks. A lot of people watching think these students are stupid for asking these questions, but no, its just passionate curiosity! And dont dont scream, or retaliate as hes talking. I think its good! If students are passionate, say something! Say what’s on your mind! And when you get the response like this, you now have tools to formulate another outlook. This is how you learn! Instead of pointing fingers at him saying ‘shame!’ I love these talks! I wish they posted more of these.
