I have the same tank and it’s currently cycling. I’ve been in the hobby for a few years and when I first started my local fish store advised me when I had my first tank to buy a complete cuc during the diatom Blum once my cycle was completed. Well I followed thier advice and it didn’t go well as the food source completely died out. So I agree with your new house anology!

You should let your tank cycle for a couple weeks with in that time you with get a diatom/algae bloom “befor you add fish” that’s the sign your tank is establishing right and will support life... I always wait for this to happen and I add clean up crew first then first plus it’s a lot cheaper to loose a snail then a clown if you add to early ......

I just started my first saltwater tank. Got my first fish, fish store guy says you need your clean up crew now. I say okay! Mind you my tank is immaculate. Meanwhile there is nothing for the snails to eat, the little hermit crab on the team has been savagely decapitating snails one by one. The crab is literally the only thing left on the crew due to his lack of food in cannibalistic nature. I agree with this video 100%. This was my first experience with a clean up crew and also saltwater tank. The preemptive strike for cleanup was the wrong thing to do. Just ask Gary my snail

you put the clean up crew in first so they are not constantly playing catch up, no one says to leave them in months before you get fish, just a week before is fine, but also depends how youre cycling the tank, if its with the lights on you want CUC immediately, its an easy concept really.

Great video. I’m really enjoying the updates and seeing the tank progress.
Can you please make a video on how your going to control your phosphate levels and what products you would recommend using and how to use them.
I know you can use products like rowaphos and aquaforest phosphate minus but there messy to use and putting them in a media bag in the chamber of a small tank they tend to clump together so water doesn’t flow through the media very effectively.
Or you can use something like seachem phosguard as water will flow through it easily and it’s not so messy to use but it can also strip phosphate out too quickly.
If you could make a video covering the pros and cons of the different phosphate media’s and how to use them effectively it would be very helpful.
    Thank you.
I look forward to watching the next update.

GSP be great in nano tank, highly recommend a 3rd fish, if happy with bioload, gramma, yellow clown goby be great contrast colour, Cardinalfish or a shrimp goby and pistol shrimp be stunning, yellow watchman, or randals or yasha. 4:45, the huge nassarius snail that you’re talking about is actually (scientific name : babylonia spirata).
These snails are more closely related to murexes (it belongs in the superfamily muricoidea), which are predatory in nature preying mostly on bivalves.
I have 4 of them in my reef aquarium and they won’t attempt to eat clams or other snails if they have enough leftovers to eat.

Any tips for covering up the waterline. I seem to be in the minority but I like a flush look and I hate seeing the waterline.

You could put tape around the rim.

Aarons Aquarium That was about the only thing I was considering last night. Dude so crazy I’ve been obsessed with your videos the last few nights and today my roommate said “we should get a fish tank” and it blew my mind 😂 I had a 50 gallon fresh water 15 years ago when I was in high school and absolutely loved it! My favorite fish I had was a needle nose. I even bought a feeder fish tank for him cause I loved him so much. I named him Waldo. I’d bring friends over after school and drop a feeder fish into the tank and show them how brilliantly Waldo hunted! Sadly he jumped out of the tank while I was sleeping one night. The 2 by 6 inch gap where the filter fit in was where he made his escape. That day in stained glass class we built him a clear glass coffin and gave him a funeral. Years later I found myself swimming in a lake in Nepal, and who do I see swimming next to me, Waldo! I couldn’t believe he could live in such a cold lake! The joy you have for aquariums is beautiful. Thanks for all the inspiration man and keep making cool videos!

I started in 2000 and there was a lot of misinformation. A big part of it I think was lack of maturity in the reef hobby. Now with the explosion of information, especially on CZcams, more things make sense from evolution of the hobby.

Is there a way yet with this tank to switch the lights from blue to white yet timer based? Im highly considering purchasing this tank but to have to manually switch from blue to white light for corals is a pain.

Hello Aaron I have a quick question so I set up my first reef tank it’s a 36gallon tank. I have a Forza filter for up to 50gallons. Some people say that’s a not a good way to do with a 36gallon. They say I should have a one that hangs from the side more like the fresh water tanks. I want to know your opinion

Are you dosing elements like calcium or Mg for the corals at all?

I’m new to marine, do the tanks need white lights? Or will the blue one being on most of the time be good enough?

You can use the Blue for extended periods of time. 😁👍🏽
