    Air stone in the evening, mimics a protein skimmer I'm guessing.
    Media baskets are expensive, but very very versatile. Even chuck some chaeto in with a small submersible led.
    Easier sponge/floss cleaning.

    Dude. This series is SUPER helpful. I really appreciate how clear you are with your instructions, without making things too complicated. Thank you. One quick question: you said doing the water change replaces many trace minerals needed by the tank creatures (magnesium, calcium, etc.), but isn’t RODI water empty of minerals and such? Isn’t that one of the benefits of RODI water? That’s it has no minerals or solids in it?
    So do you have to add minerals back to your tank separately? Thanks!

    Nice tutorial. I'm about to set up my first Evo, this should get me on the right track. I'm fitting the protein skimmer, though, because I've always wanted one! Seems to me that using micro bubbles to clear the water is exactly what a protein skimmer does, not sure why you'd want to swap one for an air stone and pump.

    • @mikkelkirketerp4884
      @mikkelkirketerp4884 Před 2 lety

      He said in a previous video he didn't want to add a skimmer to keep cost down, but he would never discourage anyone from getting a skimmer if they wanted one, as it is a nice bit of kit.
      So my guess would be that in this tank he thinks it makes better sense to have that prefilter compartment working as a filter and not a skimmer.
      And then an airpump and block is far far cheaper than a skimmer.

    Hi aaron, first I want to say I love your videos! We are moving soon and interested in setting up a saltwater tank but I’m so confused on the bacteria cycle and how to keep up with it. I also am confused with knowing how much water to put into your tank, so you can figure out how much salt to put in your water before putting it in. We are considering a 40 or 55 gallon tank. Also, how do you know when and how much bacteria to add into your tank? Do you have to do this before adding any fish and/or coral? Any tips are appreciated! Thank you!!!

I like ot leave on plugs because I start at bottom and gradually move up so should I replace with new plugs or is it safe to add plugs with alag. I did have a crash afterward that started from low salinity and It threw off all my parameters and had amonia, nitrites, trate ect so maybe from that.

    Is it possible to put wooden air stone into the main tank display ?
    Or is it nessesary to have it in the back chambers ?

    • @AaronsAquarium
      @AaronsAquarium  Před 4 lety

      Don't put it in the display. The bubbles are to big directly from the air block. If you put it in the chamber the big bubble s that you don't want pop at the surface inside the chamber and only the little bubbles go in the pump. That's why I say to put the block at the side of the pump and not in front of it. 👍🏽

    as you used bottled bacteria on this tank, how soon after adding the fish did you do the first water change?

    • @AaronsAquarium
      @AaronsAquarium  Před 4 lety +1

      I'd give it a few days to allow the Bacteria to settle into surfaces. I started water changing the following week after setting it up.

    Hey I have a question!! If carbon helps keep the water clear and not yellow, why don't you leave it in all the time?

    Can any kind experience reefer help me answer this question please.
    Can I cycle a saltwater tank with dechlorinated tap water (freshwater style) and once it's cycled with BB I then drain out the entire tank and fill it with salt water and then start adding fish etc.... I mean, afterall what you want is the BB right?

      Hi, no you can’t, they are different kind of bacteria, so if you add later the salt water, they will all die.

    getting a bit confused on your Super Simple budget reef tank setup. This tank looks different than the one you started with. Did I miss something? Did you switch tanks for a reason? Sorry if I missed something.

    replacing mechanical filter with bio filter?
    how does that make sense?
    what is stopping poop and food now from entering the display tank?
    couldn't you just put another sponge in the first chamber?
    isn't the sand and the rocks enough for the bio filter for a pair of clowns only tank?

    Man, one question, I have a 20 gallon tank and im a beginner on this, I just add one clownfish, so I have a regular salt water. Can I add some corals or I need different water? Because when I get my water they ask me if I want regular salt water or coral water?

    Please can you help me? I have got two internal filters running on a 250 L tank at the moment and they are not up to scratch. I need my first ever external filter but I have gone online and I’m completely overwhelmed at the choice and options available. Please can you recommend a decent external filter with a budget of about £150 at the most. Thank you in advance

    I am thinking of getting this tank, beacuse its an aio and I have a regular 10 gallon no skimmer. Ihave a small skimmer that I hope will fit in here as well. How are these lights? Are they stronger than current orbit or the ones in biocube? currents are 18 watts for 8 to 24. Can I grow lps like duncan, blasto acans, torch ect maybe towards top, on high? I have heard people say not eneogh blue so maybe I can add blue strips, would that increase p;ar? I dont want o rep;ace the light because I like how it looks and would you recomend the skimmer or xrtra media, if so what media? I use purigan, chemipure elite and poly bio filter and it has worked great for me and up until now...tank crash>> I never had algae and started with dead reef saver rock but never turned light on until almost 3 months or added coral until after that even.
