Thank you for actually demonstrating the guitar with black metal riffs.
One of the sickest guitar ESP/LTD has put out in a while alongside Alex Wade's sig 3.0. The stealthy, sleek look is so sick with the M body.
i had the first version aw-7, but i sold it and bought an ibanez instead. though this one....this is something i deffo need.
What is the fit and finish like? I have a custom Hanneman and an M-1.
I ordered an MH1000, and the legendary Jakarta luthiers left the frets unseated, the fretboard was scorched in the kiln and felt dry enough to crack, and the side of the fretboard felt like a steak knife. The finish was bled into the binding on the neck and headstock, and it didn't feel like my mahogany body Jacksons - not even remotely close. ESP touts them as tour-grade, and this was a Cracker Jack box toy. I cancelled my M-HT Arctic order after 30 disappointing seconds with that MH1000.
Absolutely disgusting
@@MidnightMark12 that’s sad man I have 2 Indo LTDs and they’re on par with my Korean ones.
@@JayBruceWorld
Music Zoo has an MHT-AM for me that they say is made in Seoul. I'm going to go for it.
I got mine two weeks ago. Absolutely love it! Can't wait to set her up in drop G.
Dude that's what I currently tune my 6 to. How does it sound?
ESP killed the design of this thing. Glad to see you're rating the build. I've always loved the Black Winter & I think you brought out one of the most authentic and organic tones to one of your demos yet.
One of the guitarists in a band I was in about two to three years ago had Black Winters installed on his two main guitars, a Jackson King V and an Ibanez S series. He played primarily through a Peavey XXX, and even though it might seem like a shredder's rig, he basically was a rhythm guitarist, and had exceptionally good metal guitar tone.
I just wish they made better necks. I prefer the feel of thinner flatter necks like Ibanez and Jackson.
@@GuitarsAndSynths Out of experience, my LTD necks have been quite thinner than the Jackson Soloist necks. The lower end Jackson SLAT models have stupid thin necks though.
great review and sweet guitar! One thing to note, the 'blackened' Duncan Black Winter not only has a 'blacked out' SD logo but they ALSO use hex pole pieces instead of the regular screw/slug combination; so theoretically there is an actual tone (albeit small) tone difference due to the pole piece change.
Another great review! Thought I'd note, The Blackened Black Winter does have different pole pieces than a standard Black Winter. It uses Black hex Poles ( similar to Full Shred, Alpha/Omega) instead of flat head screws and slugs. This changes the tone quite a bit. I prefer the Blackened over the standard in the 6 string versions I tried.
Jeeeeesssh that guitar is so cool! The intro song sounded a lot like the band Havukruunu.
Killer review and tune! Those Blacked out LTDs are solid. I have several magnet variations of the SD BW, but the one in these guitars with the hex poles sounds excellent. One of the guys in Krypts plays one, and they have perfect death doom tone. And excellent brewery choice.
Nice! Yes, the 'blackened' black winters are not just blacked-out for their logo but also feature different pole pieces (hex). I'd be curious to see a tone comparison between the two to see how big the tonal differences are between them. Theoretically the pole pieces will alter the tone slightly, but I'm curious to see how much of a difference it is.
Amazing, thick and well-rounded tone. It is so distinguishable from the sterile tone you hear everywhere nowadays. Well done, sir.
Exactly! The djent tone is disgustingly mid-heavy.
This was actually my first 7 string guitar. And I'll admit, it wasn't my first choice. But it's one hell of a surprisingly awesome instrument, and I have zero regrets in buying it. Well worth the money.
Hi, do you mind telling me how well this guitar holds tune, especially after intense playing like a gig or a long practice? Cheers!
@@Defekcija there's locking knobs on the back of each tuning key. So they do a great job of staying in tune, AFTER you get passed that initial period of breaking in a new set of strings. I hope this helps you and you pick one up for yourself!!
🤘😈🤘
(Edit) I forgot to mention, the longest I've played this guitar was about 7 and half, almost 8 hours. It started off as a practice session, and after an hour, turned into a riff I couldn't stop playing, then inspiration took over. You know how that goes!! But it managed to stay in tune quite well. Even tho I kept going back and forth between drop A and standard.
@@espltd978 yeah man, I sometimes zone out like that and get carried away, especially when we jam as a band. I'm glad it holds tune well and I'm definitely gonna get it! Thanx for the reply bud!
@@Defekcija you definitely WON'T regret it!!
I was eating Clams as I was watching this. The universe told me to watch this video. Rad review man. Helped with my decision!
You should do a "recording tips" series. Your intro sounds super sick. What drum samples do you use?
I use Toontrack Superior Drummer, and I use the Death and Darkness pack mostly. As for the recording tips, honestly I don't know what I am doing at all. I just dial settings on the amp and in Wall Of Sound and I press record and hope 99% of the time. If you want tips, I highly recommend @URM Academy
Great vid man. Love it when you do 7 string reviews. You always seem to get killer tone out of whatever u review. But it’s always great vids when you do extended range guitars. I had my eye on that guitar, kinda wish I would have got one. I just got the Mach 7 banshee from Schecter and oh my is it bad ass. Comes with the m7 Lundgren pups, and damn dude. Would love to see u review one.
I know I've said it recently, but god damn your song writing is bloody fantastic right now.
Almost bought the Viper 400B after watching your video. Searched Reverb for 'Baritone' one last time before making an offer. Ended up ordering the Viper version of this fucking beast instead. Brand new, comes with a hard case, and stole it for $650 (from ESP clearance warehouse, has the tiniest minor cosmetic defect I've ever seen, and on back of the neck). I've never been more stoked for mail in my entire life
I got the viper400b 3 days ago aswell for 300 just need to put new strings on it but the quality is very good
How is it?
Came to hear this specific guitar, left with wanting to try the beer. This is the best video/review I’ve seen in a long time. Fuck yeah
Perfect demo for black metal. \m/
Would hope one day you'll release another Voided album in the future.
Great review! There's another guitar by Ibanez that's very similar, it's the RGIXL7. Please do a review on that too.
I just watched another video on this guitar that just demonstrated the guys choreography. I don't care if you can dance, just tell me about the damn guitar and you did it... Thanks Bro.

You know the review we all want to see.

Dude as soon as I saw teaser pics I was like. Hell yes.
I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on this one, cant wait to see you review it
been looking at the six string version of this guitar so sick, great review and video.
Good review, man. Sounds great and camera work is cool! I do reviews, too, and I’m learning a thing or two from you!
If this had a TOM/stopbar it would be my dream guitar lol. Fingers crossed for a 27" phoenix 7 next year.
They have a viper model with that bridge type.
@@lowandslowshow there's an evertune version on their website right now on sale. This is just ultimate decision
I have the viper version of this im glad to see you review this guitar!!!
Great tone, playing and Great content edits! This is the best demo Ive seen on these.
Cool man, curious to see you impressions of an LTD. I own a Buz-7 second version, its a decent guitar for the money.
Got Viper 7 Baritone black metal version and is just unbelievable guitar for money , chunky, djent af.
"behooves us" aye aye staff sergeant
Awesome review and great playing! Love the tune at the beginning!
I currently have a LTD SC-207 and I want to trade that one in for this guy!
Just got this beast the other day. I am a through and through schecter man but HOLY HELL this thing is one of THE best axes I've ever used. I enjoy the simplicity of it and the design just for doing what it does best: melting faces
I got one today. Do you run it through any pedals or do you love the sound out of the box?
@@ben_angel so I'm lucky enough to have a 6505 plus and a marshall 4x12 which makes the out of box sound perfect. I'm still dialing in my tube screamer turbo for any additional overdrive but man... This thing doesn't need a pedal 😂
@@Woecaller haha nice, I'm just wondering what I need to do or what I'm not doing to get the sound he's getting in the video (and you too by the sound of it)
Is my amp a big part of it? It's a fender hot rod deluxe vi. It came with a drive pedal. Sounds amazing with my strat but maybe I was stupid to think it would go with this ltd?
@@ben_angel yeah man... It's time for a change up in amps. I bit the bullet and got this gear after using the same line six for almost twenty years 😂
Best purchase ever. Sides the guitar.
@@Woecaller oh Jesus, this purchase has just got even more expensive. I'm a real beginner and just won't be able afford all this extra stuff on top so I'm feeling I'll have to return the guitar 😭
I love the way you critique these guitars
I had the blackened black winters in a Schecter KM6 MKI and I didn't really like them and swapped them out, it sounds way better here though, I want to get the Viper 7 baritone version.
One of the guitarists in a band I was in about two to three years ago had Black Winters installed on his two main guitars, a Jackson King V and an Ibanez S series. He played primarily through a Peavey XXX, and even though it might seem like a shredder's rig, he basically was a rhythm guitarist, and had exceptionally good metal guitar tone.
if there only was a 6 string baritone version of this monster
Too bad these black metal LTDs have a brown Macassar ebony fretboard. Kinda ruins the whole black metal visual concept. Black richlite would be better.
SunnyD88 ding ding, we have a winner
Agreed, or atleast dye it at the factory.
Some of em look brown some of em especially the early ones nailed the black board. Mine is pretty black but who knows, may have a point
I am eventually planning on buying this guitar when I have the money. Though I'll be using it for a little more than just metal as I plan on writing songs that blend in some post-punk type stuff with metal like some darkwave, gothrock and deathrock style choruses.
Hi Arnold! I love your unbiased gear reviews. Would you ever consider reviewing basses? I remember you doing one a while back and would love to see more if possible.
Keep up the great work!
I now own this guitar. It is very nice.
was on the fence about this axe, but after this review, i'm convinced. thanks! buying......
Great review. Was and continue to seriously consider this one.
I have the 6 string this guitar has a sexiness I can't describe you just wanna touch it and hold it. Look how even when Arnold demos and talks about it he's holding it all kinds of weird ways, thats what this thing makes you do.
Awesome riffs and this thing is a beast!
Nice review of this metal beast! Please use a beer cup to really taste that bear as it should be tasted. Nice combination of guitar and beer. Keep it up! Question: Did you try the ESP LTD SC-607 B? How could you compare it to this one? Thanks!
a beer...cup? As in, plastic?
@@ArnoldPlaysGuitar LOL red solo cup, I fill you up...
1:45 2:00 amazing riff man
My god. Might get the 6 string version
Hey man, great video, playing and demo in general! I have one question only. Does is hold tune well? Does it stay in tune after intense playing? What is your experience with this? Cheers!
Could definitely use this to cover Behemoth
Thanks for the review! I should have one in a month or so!
Of course! Any guitar through a tube amp sounds killer!!
Hi Arnold, really like your amp setup in that rack or whatever you call it. Do you ever have your amps hooked up to a cabinet anymore or do you only play through a captor and IRs these days?
I need this...
Hey man love your content just wondering which polish you use for satin slash matte finish
Natas \m/ none, wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth.
I like the "reverse pucker"! lol Thats when we know you are serious!
Absolutely crushing intro!! \m/
The quick song you wrote for the intro was fucking killer
Seen one of these for sale on reverb awhile ago and dude replaced all the black hardware with gold and it looked fucking awesome!
So then it's specific for making black metal with that single pickup huh? Idk how I would implement a 7th string in black metal at tbh
It's easy learning to play slam and grind and death metal on a 7 string because you can chug the whole time. To make a song that low tuned black metal and it sound good is hard to do. Portal being one of them
You can use it for whatever you want. Play funk if you want and if you think it works for it. I just love what I love and it’s an awesome guitar for that.
I feel like the new ldt m1007/ht just shits all over this thing. It's only about $100 more, awesome burl top and you get fishman moderns in the neck and bridge. No brainer for me.
Its just a matter of opinion. I'm all about a clean and simple look.
Agreed, the m1007/ht has a 25.5" scale and a 14 inch radius, this ones got a 27" scale and 16 inch radius, I also prefer the absence of inlays on this one, looks badass, definitely all preference
Disagree. I much prefer the look of the black metal, and the 27” scale is far superior fit a 7. The 1007 looks generic to me. I’m sure it plays and sounds great...but I’ll take the black metal all day.
Those "tremolo-picked" chords sound so fucking cool! Nice! I think I need to try the Black Winter pickup :)
Great video! Have you also tried the white version.. the Arctic metal? It has stainless steel frets and emg 81 pickups
I just ordered one of these with an EverTune and I'm fucking STOKED.
What a thorough review, love your stuff man. Lol
My only problem with satin/matte finish is that it starts to wear out and turns glossy where it's touched frequently. And it's not a graceful aging. I had a Schecter Demon which looked like a shared dildo in a crackhouse after a year or so. These guitars look majestic in the beginning: whenever you make eye contact with them in your room you instantly show devil's horns and get horny to play. Once they wear out, you'll be like "Ugh, you dirty slut, what do you want? I don't have any change for you...". If I pay $1000 for a guitar during an economy-killer pandemic it better stays pretty for years to come.
Bertalan Oláh massively disagree with this man
@@NutsTesticles You mean the aesthetics of a worn satin finish not being ugly or the fact that satin wears out?
I know where you're coming from man
Thanks alot for this badass review of this guitar! Been waiting for this and now i have to have it😈 did you find the volume knob to be in the way at all? Or was it just far enough away from the bridge pickup?
So, the beer is accessible without being boring? Kind'a?
"At the Heart of Winter" vibes :)
I got a $200 ibby and I had the exact same complaints. nut has some tooling marks, and a tooling impression next to the strap button. I mean I expect that from a 200 guitar, for something like that all black, esp/Ltd, brand name pickup, I would expect perfection. don't settle for anything but perfect if you're buying(/reviewing)new, used is a different story.
Dude. Great job with the tone and all the stuff. Keep up the good work man!
I have a question for you about the solar V. Have you tried one yet? What is your opinion on it? I am in the market for a metal guitar and i love V´s but i want to know your opinion and if you have an alternative for the same prince. Thanks!
Greetings from Chile.
We gonna get a valvestate review 😂💪
Can't wait to get mine, backordered! Haven't played in awhile and decided to go with a 7. In my mind it seems easier than a 6 lol
he said "pitch fucking black" and that triggered me to like and subscribe lol
Wow, cool intro!
Sick! Love my Arrow Black Metal! Might have to snag one of these!🤘🏼
tl;dr: How is it tuned?
I'm a little confused by the term "baritone 7 string".
In my estimation a baritone is tuned:
B E A D F# B
And a 7 string thusly:
B E A D G B e
Notice the F#/G difference. So a 7 string is just standard tuning with a 7th B string added on bottom.
While a baritone is any instrument around half between the the standard range (sometimes called tenor, or even alto) and the bass range (an octave below).
So...a 7 string dropped to the baritone range would be:
F# B E A D F# B!
Okay, so this is not the case, but is there a F# or a G string?I know, I know, dropping or raising one string a half step is not gonna destroy the precision neck and throw the intonation into wack making it unsaleable. But I'm just curious, how was it tune on arrival?
I guess it's tuned standard by the way it sounds, factory strings are 10-59, they call it baritone for the scale length of 27" but as you say, makes more sense to have a F# in the bottom string, that's what i'd do since i tune my 6 string guitars B E A D F# B
Standard for these is BEADGBE. "Baritone 7 string" just means it's a 7 string with a longer scale. Generally 27" or longer is considered a baritone for 7s, and 25.5-26.5" is a normal scale.
Sounds sick! Does it do drop F well?
That's what I would like to know
Just get a MUCH thicker string guage for the guitar and you're good to go. The 27-inch scale length is there for it.
Go to 10:37 for Star Wars 🤘
Man! This thing looks sick!
Woah Arnold looks like Vikings dude now with that beard! Keep that look man as it looks way metal and is a better look for you.
It's just perfect isn't it
So it’s actually called a “Baritone”? Like that’s actually part of the name? Cuz every other time I’ve seen a “baritone” guitar it was like the Ibanez MMM1, which is a 6 string but tuned to B Standard. Or the Schecter C-VI which is also a 6 string, but tuned an entire octave down to E1 (I’m not sure why it exists to be honest but it does). But this is just a 7 string in B Standard...that’s just normal tuning for a 7 string (I know you have it in Bb, but that was just your choice, like how most people have their guitars one or two half steps down from standard for some reason). So I’m just confused about that. But otherwise it does sound sick.
I'm guilty of tuning my Schecter Demon 7 half a step down. Not many people play half a step down but it became a favorite tuning of mine.
I’ve owned one for a month and I can’t put it down
That is a badass guitar🤘🏽🤘🏽 enjoy your channel. I don’t believe it’s out yet, but it would be cool to see a review of the Dean Zero select fluence with the Floyd Rose🤘🏽🤘🏽🔥🔥

That is my next guitar thanks to you!
0:33-0:54 I love this riff! Whats the name?
Looks amazing, would it be able to play deathcore/djent/kinda modern metal bands sound? I have a schecter silver mountain 7 MS rn
What it sound any good with a low F# and standard baritone tuning?
Hey man, the dude from nightmarer did a review on the guitar as well on ergnerds. I’m pretty sure they tune to either f# or f. From the sound clips it sounds pretty sick.
Would it be possible to use this one, or the arctic version, for clean black metal parts, like what Leviathan, Acherontas or Thy Darkedened Shade often use? I usually switch to the mid or neck pu's
Fucking beautiful
I’m getting the Arrow from this series just because whammy bar and active pickups.
I was looking at the LTD EC-1000 Duncan VB but that gold hardware will get real ugly after a week.
Surprisingly, this guitar doesn’t look overly ridiculous with the 7 strings.
If I didn’t have a hankering for a Floyd Rose, I’d definitely get this.
hopefully you got the Arrow by now? Pretty awesome, huh? lol. Love mine
@@kionihernandez356 Oh man, no! I still haven’t yet haha. Figured things would be a little better this year but even though they’re not, I’m still gonna get it!
Just been weighing my options to see what would be the best creative tool for what I’m doing right now...which isn’t Metal but either way, we’ll make it work! 😹
what amp? sounds amazing!
What tuning is it in?
Bb standard
@@ArnoldPlaysGuitar would you have the high e in a different tuning then?
i might be fucking stupid asking this but are you running that through a peddle to get that sound? I'm new to this and really want 1!
Not at all a stupid question. I would honestly say that 90% of the tones on this channel over the past year and a half have been straight into whatever amp I'm using, maybe using a boost/OD pedal in front if anything, but usually not even that because I definitely have a thing about the purity of amp tone. That said...there are preamp pedals out there that absolutely slay, but you gotta know how to run those. Those don't get run into the front of an amp typically unless it is designed to be able to be...typically you run a preamp pedal - like a KSR Ceres, Revv G3, Aura Diamond, Klirrton Oh My Goat, etc. - into the FX return of an amp. Bonus, if you do that, try to make sure it's an amp with both a Presence knob and a Depth knob, because that gives you more tone-shaping ability when you run a preamp pedal. And keep the presence knob cranked pretty high.
@@ArnoldPlaysGuitar Appreciate the reply man. The amp i have is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV. It has a presence knob i know that much.
