Cloud Strife . So so true my dude!!! I miss games in general beings games are not games any more as they have been saturated in micro transactions and d.l.c ect. Its so sad and I know that might sound pathetic especially to someone who's not for never has been a gamer but I was born in 89 so I got to grow up in the absolute golden era of gaming when devs made games to be fun oppose to modern games being made to do nothing but steal and squeeze as much money out of you as possible this absolutely ruining games!! And to think all we had to do was keep our wallets closed when presented with these game destroying practices! This is why I say no TRUE gamer would ever support micro transactions or any of that horseshit !!!!!

ALMOST Successfully convinced my mom when I was 10 that this was actually a family friendly mario-like platformer that got rated "M" by mistake but it was too expensive for them to change it. Got to rent it from the video store and laughed my stupid little head off at all the poop, pee and sex jokes until she caught a (very uncannily timed) glimpse of it on the evening news in a little feature about obscenity in games that was such a common outcry in those days. OOOPS.

I honestly don't see them bringing Conker back for any main roles, even with the game's cult status, since I don't think the remake was received very well. My favorite memory of this game is playing it with one of my best friends just about every single day one summer. We played the hell out of the multiplayer. I remember being fond of the level with the giant bathroom where you could pee on other players. I think there was a button you could press that made the stream go like 50 feet. I got this for Christmas when I was 10 years old( parents not truly knowing how bad it actually was) but the ending of the game was so depressing with his girlfriend berry dying and him saying I just wanna go home and the grass isn't always greener. This game really is a masterpiece. For me it's my second favorite 3d platformer of all time right below mario 64. i've always thought of it as the Earthbound of the 3d platformer genre. By that i mean its kind of like the 3d platformer for people that are tired of all the overused 3d platformer tropes. this and earthbound kind of parody their genres so if you've played that genre to death they end up being a really enjoyable way to play a game of that style again. Plus the multiplayer was a lot of fun back in the day. The live and reloaded remake on xbox is really good too. Im glad that most people enjoy this game as much as i do.

I remember the ads, the condoms, the "silent hype". I was 15-6 and living in the US at the time. I recall being in the store with my dad, having to choose between Paper Mario and Conker. Conker won, and I never looked back. I enjoyed every second of the single player game and that summer we played a ton of its multiplayer modes - including the hilarious cavemen. Easily my favourite game of all time. Just for how fun and funny it was, without skimping on the gameplay nor the tech (Alas, it didn't even need an expansion pak to run!).
I finally got the Xbox version around 2006, but the multiplayer I never got to try - didn't like the shooter controls much, either, but the graphics were a nice addition, and easily looked on par with some X360 games of the day.
Thanks for bringing this one back, great work.

*Conkers Bad Fur Day is the game that helped me grow up and mature.*
The most nostalgic game console to me that defined my childhood is the Nintendo 64. I have fond memories of waking up in the middle of the night to explore caves in Pokemon Snap, fish with Link in Ohcarina of Time, and jump platforms in Iggy's reckin balls.
As a child I was shy and immature with no interest in getting older. As I grew to age 11, My brother's friend told me about this alleged N64 game from the makers of Donkey Kong 64 that had a "drunk squirrel peeing on badguys, killing zombies, fighting a giant poop monster and defeating the final boss via the game freezing.
This sounded too ridiculous to be true. But thanks to the computer, I was able to discover the game was not only real, but much "worse" than I thought. Yes, I initially disliked the game, yet I found myself drawn to it. There were aspects of Conker that I did not feel comfortable with, yet others that greatly intrigued me. After watching cutscenes and playthroughs of the game online, I soon made it a mission to buy it.
With the help of my oldest brother, I was able to snag a copy from a retro game store.
After playing the game and beating it so many time, I found the parts of the game that disturbed me before were now growing on me. I soon came to appreciate some of the dark humor placed into the story.
And the dour ending where Conker realizes he just wants a normal life was quite the contrast to most of the games I played on the system.
I came into Conker thinking it would be stupid, but I came out with a better understanding of growing up.
It was fitting that the N64 defined my childhood,, and an N64 game capped it off as well.

Conker's BFD was THE very first N64 game I've seen in my life - I was at a birthday party and the older kids were playing the multiplayer mode, but I wouldn't actually get my hands on an actual N64 of my own until at least 11 years later in 2014, and longer still because I've suffered to get my hands on a copy of the game last year 2021. But even before that, playing it on emulators and reading about it on magazines is still one of the key reasons why I even bothered to get it.

The N64's swansong imo. It was released when the PS2 and Dreamcast were already out, whilst the Gamecube and Xbox would be released in some areas 7 months later.
Yet Rare put in the effort to make an underrated classic

Great review of a great game!
My most memorable moment actually came from pretty much the first scene. My friend bought this very shortly after release and he came over to my house to play it. We pop it in, turn on the N64, and very first thing there's a reference to a movie that my friend recognized, but I did not. Upon learning that I had never seen A Clockwork Orange, my friend and I headed to the local video rental.
We spent the rest of the evening watching A Clockwork Orange and playing Conker's Bad Fur Day: It was great! So yeah, I have a fond memory of the opening scene just because it introduced me to Clockwork Orange in a round-about way.
And man, my friends and I have had hours of fun with the multiplayer. Yeah, it doesn't control very well and the frame rate does drop often enough to hinder your progress, but we mostly just played it for how damned hilarious the whole affair is.

As far as i am ware, Rare still owns at least one physical copy of the cancelled Conker game that was then transformed into CBFD.
Because they took it out of their archive to get more footage from it for Rare Replay Archive.
    Unless im wrong that is.

Simply one of the greatest games ever made. I often imagine what a sequel would be like (Conker‘s Other Bad Day) but I’m also glad that this was a stand alone classic.

Finally someone who actually thinks that this game is worth as it is without a sequel.
Also, Rare is not known for making sequels, only for the DKC series, and Banjo Kazooie which got a sequel, but 98% of their games are a one and nly entry.

My most memorable memory from that game was actually going to buy it. I was 15 at the time which made it difficult to buy an M rated game. However, I was a big kid so they sold it to me no problem. I don't think they realized it was M rated because of a mascot character on the front of the box.
Obviously the mighty poo was a big moment.
But I also remember my first time dying. Finding that so new and humorous for the time.
And then of course the matrix scene towards the end.

My favorite moment from the game is the Rock Solid dance club. The game makes you jump through so many hoops involving the cave men/baby dinosaur/volcano missions that when you finally get into the club, you're psyched to hear that techno beat! But, do I think we'll ever see Conker return to gaming? No, I don't.

Another great review. This is the best N64 game I don't have in my collection, but hope to find it soon. Nintendo Power might have boycotted the game but Nintendo World, the official brazilian Nintendo magazine made a big noise and dedicated many pages with previewing, discussing the game and walkthroughs. I was only 11 at the time and my parents could only afford used games anyway so I never got to play it, the game having been released at the end of the console's lifespan, so I could only read the walkthroughs as some sort of ancient let's play.

Rare were the greatest on the N64. Conkers bad fur day ticked all the right boxes for me . great gameplay , characters , graphics , environments and not forgetting the adult humour .
Best part for me ( besides the great almighty poo lol 😂) . I was in my element with the Matrix , saving private Ryan , Aliens and Dracula parts . The caveman and his buxom wife was just hilarious . It really didn't get any better than the above . One of the all time greats . The multi player was also hilarious especially trying to save the frenchies from the teddies lol. The sounds of the frenchies running still echoes in my head to this day . However , the lyrics to the great mighty poo will never get old ....." I am the great mighty poo and I'm going to throw my shit at you " 😂😂😂😂.

It's really cheap, I think I got it for €20 during a Christmas digital sale and I've seen the retail disc version on Amazon for as low as €15. That's 30 classic Rare games for that low a price. :)

This is without a doubt the best game on the Nintendo 64. I played this and even though it was 20 years old my jaw still dropped at the hilarious humor, fun gameplay, and seamless storyline with what seemed like zero loading times. I was honestly shocked a game on such old hardware and limited cartridge capacity such as the N64 could handle a game like this. This is what peak performance and innovation looks like. Also the style of humor is amazing and feels like it was made just for me. The whole game in general feels perfect to me. It's like that saying of how video games are playable movies but in the best possible way. No other game in on the N64 has shit on this masterpiece. Crazy they could fit it all on 58MB of data.
Also as to answer your question of whether Conker should come back, absolutely. I would buy and Xbox Series X right now if they did.

Ahhh, Conker's BFD. Even as a kid I loved the game. I didn't get past spooky until I was 13 but that's because I was terrified of the zombies (I'm a wuss). And its obvious that my fondest memory of the game is the Great Mighty Poo (I mean who wouldn't enjoy that moment) but I guess my second favorite is the Heist chapter. I remember being so thrilled seeing Neo Conker and just mowing down my enemies easily (my heart was racing, I was way too giddy and the cutscenes were so cool that my jaw dropped and left me speechless). The Heist chapter just made me feel like I was a badass...pardon my language. Conker's BFD, my #1 favorite N64 game. Its fun and its hilarious but only for a mature audience (that didn't stop me though).
