  • How to install factory looking rivets on your 1/64 die-cast cars. You can purchase these rivets from eBay or the Redline shop. Links below. I'm aware there is a bit of an audio issue with this video in a few shots.

    I still like the look of screws over rivets plus it makes it WAY easier to make changes later.

    I was just looking at a restored car and saw the rivet method and I was scratching my head wondering how the hell did this guy restore this car without opening it up…I’ve been using screws and it’s a pain in the ass taping the hole and praying the screw will hold it together tight,I’ve made some ugly blunders learning how to restore these old hotwheels cars.. thanks to your video hopefully I can move up a notch in my restos. Thanks and I’m subscribed now

    I sell the custom ones I restore as "Vintage custom" and by using the screws it makes for easier ID by customers in the know. Sure the rivot ones look more authentic but I steer clear of them for fear someone might think I'm pulling a fast one. I use these as you showed when I get asked to a complete 100% restore or for the ones in my collection, and they really make it easier over threading for the screws. Great video!!

  • @koolkatkustomdiecast801

    What size drill bit did you you?

  • @chassegallerie2910
    @chassegallerie2910 Před 5 lety

    Would use the dremel to take out the squashed part of the post work if you'd use screws too? Because, in the end, you still drill in the post.

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  Před 5 lety

      You certainly can. I typically just use a drill bit because the screw is a bit larger than the post and covers up imperfections.

  • @72polara
    @72polara Před 5 lety

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  Před 5 lety

      It takes a bit longer but I think it's worth it in the end.

  • @joakimhjelm-svennesen8984

    What do you prefer - the button head screws or the fake rivets? I think I’d prefer the button head screws. Yeah they might not seem as original looking as the rivets, but at least you can unscrew the base and do additional restoration or customization to the car or do a repaint if that’s what you like. I mean the rivets you’re pretty much done and can’t do any more to the car, so you really have to be sure everything is as what you like for your restoration or custom

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  Před 5 lety +2

      Overall I like the button head screws much better. With the redlines I will probably use the rivets just because I don’t plan on taking them back apart.

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  Před 5 lety +1

      Cotton Texas Yes, I guess you could call it “fake” but this is more for someone that is collecting for a person collection and not a resell. To restore 50 years from now it would be no more difficult than originally, probably easier by just prying the car apart depending on the glue used.
