Building a modular 3rd hand

  • Using some 12mm round stock and an old drill press chuck.
3rd hands are very useful tools used for welding. This metal "finger" keeps your small bolts, nuts, tabs and other stuff in place with its weight so you can use both of your hands to tack and weld the pieces together.
The big advantage of this modular setup is that you can use different kinds of "fingers". If the tool doesn't fit the job, bend a new piece of steel and make it fit.

That's certainly a different use for an old dead drill chuck. Thanks for sharing.

Good way to use old chucks for sure!

Though I have seen several of these, your’s is a very interesting and flexible approach to the design concept. Thanks for sharing this.

Great idea, I'm going to make one.
Just a tip, don't wear gloves when you use a grinder or similar.
If the grinder hits your hand it takes off some skin.
If it hits your gloves, they get pulled in and it takes off fingers or a hand...
Also a good idea to wear some thin leather gloves when welding.. Skin cancer from the UV light isn't pretty either.

Doesn't hold robustly. Though idea is good
