-- Regarding the overall restoration of the chuck... I noticed that you went about polishing the exterior of the parts of the chuck as it is assembled. While it looks nice, the problem with this is that there's no protection there to keep the exposed parts from rusting/corroding in the future. I'll make a suggestion here. One of the things you can do to protect the parts is to use the gun bluing method just like you would to protect firearms. Another method is to engage in homebrew plating and nickel plate those parts which is a far more permanent solution when it comes to rust protection. The cheap and easy of the two is gun bluing. The slightly more expensive and difficult is nickel plating but it can be done at home. The trick is to set up a small homebrew plating system and learning how to do it. The good news is... is that if you are a bit of a scavenger and are somewhat crafty then homebrew plating doesn't need to be expensive or costly at all. Depending on the size of the parts that you would plate, you can make small plating tanks out of repurposed plastic containers such as a milk jug or the jug from laundry detergent. You can scavenge power supplies and/or other electronics parts from all sorts of electrically powered items like an obsolete computer or computer monitor or other items such as old scrap televisions, radios, microwaves, etc. The great thing about nickel plating is that if you do it correctly then you've got a permanent protection against rust as long as the plated layer holds up which is often indefinite. For those not familiar with the process, the plated layer is as thick as you choose but basic protection only requires a layer of .0003-.0004 in thickness but .0005-.0015 is common. For those that polish the nickel, a layer of.003-.005 is normal. An unpolished nickel layer already has a bright sheen to it thus a lot of folks regard it has being acceptable without polishing. Anyway, those are some things to think about. You can look on CZcams and find a wide variety of video footage for both gun bluing as well as home nickel plating. Allow me to encourage you to look into those things for future usage. Peace & good vibes!

Outstanding work. Enjoyed it greatly!
God I love this kind of video. Bringing something old back to life.
Vintage Views out of all the hobbies I’ve had over the years this is by far the most satisfying, can’t wait to see the whole drill press come back to its former glory 😊
That is one big chunk can't wait to see the drill great job 🍺🍺👍👍👍👍
Cheers man, been a nightmare getting the drill running again, definitely chucked a surprise or two my way :D. Just awaiting a few parts now to get it back together again!
Great restoration just like the motor on the drill press that chuck came from. I saw that video yesterday and was amazed with the detail quality of workmanship that went into that. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
I am also amazed with the few parts that went into a chuck. I’ve never seen one disassembled before. Thanks from Australia.🇦🇺🙏
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed them! I was surprised by how simple the chuck was, first time I've ever opened one of this type, I thought they'd be more complex! Made for a nice simple little resto though! Thanks for watching!
Nice result and excellent video work too. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Stuart G. Australia. Thanks a lot mate 👍
I woulda guessed at there bein some kind of "sprung" assembly inside a chuck, didn't know the insides were like that..... I woulda been expecting a spring or 2 to go flyin if I took it apart 😆
Nice one lad 🤙
Buen trabajo. Un saludo
I know it's essential but there's something about re-greasing a nicely cleaned part that just messes with me. I remember my mate doing an engine rebuild on an old Mini Cooper and he had to strip this certain part of all the oils/grease on it to find a defect he needed to fix. He had it in this tank over night and when it was hosed off you could've eaten your dinner off it. Then when he found and dealt with the defect he went and coated it in oil again.. I've never gotten over it hahaha.
Great work mate, looking forward to seeing the restoration on the drill press.
I know what you mean mate, took me ages to polish up and then just covering it in grease... needed doing though!
Just one thing to change, to remove the taper, put a pin just loose in the jaws and press it, taper will come out easily.
Thank’s for the video, it was very interesting.
Now I know how to disassemble my drill Chuck😂
Thank You - At last someone does it properly - It's surprising the number of "how too's" that just use a dash of oil and leave it at that
Loved it! Very satisfying to watch 👍
Cheers man, thanks for watching!
Parabéns pela explicação
Very good restoration bro 👍👍👍👍
Кошмар Кошмар cheers pal👍
muchas gracias que lleva el mango dentro el mandril gracias
My chuck looks exactly like that. I bet one plant makes them all and imprints what ever name and logo the DP manufacturer wants.
Nicely done, just discovered your channel and I’m loving the content 👍 I’ve got the exact same chuck but no key. Bought numerous replacements but they never fit. Any idea where i could buy one?
I got mine from B&Q in the UK! Just make sure you buy a 16mm one
Can you do this without a press?
How to know the size of that thing?
Awesome restoration! I’m curious as to what kind of degreaser you used, though. Just bought something similar to that and I’m planning to restore it as well.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Yosef Reese I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Yosef Reese It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Joseph Maverick You are welcome =)
I don't know what happened but I tried to take mine apart exactly the way you did it and broke all the teeth off the iner clamps.
Totally onboard with repairing this piece. Prob save yourself a couple hundred bucks if it's a good chuck. But all that polishing? I don't mind if my tools have a bit of a weathered look. After all, that's how I earn my money.

excellent restoration and beautiful result, I like👍
Just discovered your channel. Nice work! What kind of grease are you using?
It was just a standard gear grease, that's what it appeared to have in it originally. A light oiling would probably have been good enough though!
-- NEGATIVE! You did it right by using a heavy bearing grease which has staying power whereas a light oil does not. What's more important, is that the bearing grease is far more effective at preventing wear. Best wishes!

Awsam
Bolt that vice down!!!
👍
The markings are just size and taper of the chuck

all of which is fine, but accuracy is required here. I think it is better to buy a new part than to restore it
Decent work! 😀 I do not know the author of this chuck, but I know the creator of this bench (hint) ...
Ирина И you shamed me into giving the bench a bit of a degrease after last episode 😂
@@sparesorrepair9118 You remember me! 😯
Ирина И sure do 👍
Is it not just a Jacobs chuck 🤔
It’s very similar in design but not a Jacobs brand chuck, I’ve not seen the makers brand before, it’s a ‘HS’ in a diamond, can’t find any info on it
¡¡!!
3:40 no eye-protection screen on the polishing mop ??........................ just saying
Much of what you show is chemical in nature... be very careful about maintaining vapor removal correctly. Some vapors are heavier than air. Since my father in law died of chemical vapor inhalation, I feel compelled to remind anyone using these chemicals to be very, very careful.
I work at a chemical plant and deal with nasty stuff every day so am always careful and wear appropriate protection! If I ever use anything that gives off nasty fumes then I’ll be sure to highlight the fact, everything so far is pretty harmless 👍
3:20 those gloves ain't offering a lot of protection ............... just saying
Only reason I wore those gloves was to keep my hands cleanish, I can run my hands against the bristles of the wheel all day long and not get hurt. Wearing protective gloves near rotating machinery isn’t a good idea tbh, if they get caught they’ll drag your hand in. I wear eye protection rather than using guards on the machinery, get better control that way
