Seeing a lot of metric support! Sounds like I will be sticking with using both. Also thank you to everyone who has checked out joining the channel! Let me know if you have any emote or member badge ideas. I'm not fully locked in on the current set and open to suggestions.
For sure! Adding the metric is very comfortable. As far as I am concerned, saying "just over X mm" is absolutely enough. Unless it's a bit of precision machining instructions - think about what you would use thousands of inches for...
Love the mm explanation man
👍👍
For sure keep the MM!
When you have simple projects like this, occasionally make an extra one as a give away to a random member of your channel (they can pay the shipping)
Beautiful work Justin 💚
Great video mate!
I appreciate the use of metric mm it makes it much easy for me to follow. Cheers from the UK 🇬🇧
👍👍
love the mm i’m from australia so perfect
I use silicon bronze quite a lot but only on steel. I think the way to go with it is to heat the base metal _through_ the silicon bronze. Start dipping ideally even before the base metal puddles. If it's too cold and balling up keep the arc on the blob you just dipped and kick the pedal briefly to make it sink in right. Then once you get going keep the heat on the puddle and dip lots of rod so you're never melting that base metal. Enough heat conducts through the puddle itself for it wet in.
doing things in MM has been pretty nice thank you for doing both.
Yes on the metric system. I have both C°and F° on my phone home page. I think metric is so much more convienient. No weird fractions!
Just a little thing that I used with my HS Engineering students; 1/8" approx 3 mm .
That way you can do conversions on the fly. Not precise but it gets you there
And 40thou is 1mm, give or take a gnats.. I'm a "metric" person but my lathe is imperial so I'm constantly repeating that to myself! Gets me close, then the very-nearlies or the micrometer gets me the rest of the way :)
The millimetres helps a lot.
Thanks
Great using metric all our steel in the UK is now in mm, I'm new to welding , but since Covid it's becoming a part time job , so any help is great..... thank you....
Thanks for the video it helps me to tig weld on other Materials.
Definitely love the mm mate keep it up!!
Love the use of mm! Very useful down here in Australia :)
Really enjoy your work! 👍👍
Thank you!
Love your videos keep em coming 👍
Nice build Justin. Every shop needs a few third hands. Makes life a whole lot easier when you're by yourself.
Definitely does and thanks for checking out the video!
@@JustVoss No problem brother. You've been doing some great stuff.
Thanks! You guys too, lots of knowledge over there for sure.
#lonelyweldersclub
Very cool to see you building a channel with limited resources! A quick note; I’ve gotten better results from pouring acetone on the cleaning surface than putting it on the rag and wiping. You end up transferring dirt from the rag to the workpiece if you have acetone on it first; whereas the acetone picks up debris and flows onto the paper towel if it’s dry.
Kool vid!! I wish I would of thought to use brass on my third hand...looks badass!!!
Oh yeah...HF sells a 32oz liquid sprayer that you can fill with the acetone and then you just add 100 psi of air into into it to pressurize. It last quit awhile before you need to add air again. Very handy...I’ve been using mine for about 2 years now with no problems from acetone in it.
The measurement in MM is Awesome. Thanks.
You bet!
Thanks for the metric measurements. Imperial and fractions are old fashioned and complicated.
A lathe and a pillar drill would help you immeasurably..I always meant to make one of these. Never got around to make it.
With your video quality you definitely needed a welder sponsor! Keep up the badass content.
Keep on with the mm please! And thank you! Great videos!
New subscriber💪
Been meaning to make one of these for ages. The only thing would have done different is drill the counter weight through end to end. Love your no mess, clean looking vids.
MMs rule here in the UK 🤘
Yeah that may have been a good idea, then you would have the option of welding it on the other side and grinding it back smooth for a clean look. Thanks for the sub!
In the US and trying to switch to metric too.
Thanks for the videos.
Neat trick I see a guy use the tig torch to heat an area before he bent the work piece with vice and hammer , no need for gas torch .
Big thanks for the mm.....cheers from Sydney....
I’ve seen other channels use silicone bronze on the pointy end, supposed to add conductivity and avoid arc burns at that location.
yea! keep doing the MM thing, its alot more easy for me to understand
Yes ! Please keep the mm !!
Yes. Keep the millimeter mention. Its a faster system to work off of so thanks for including mm.
Good video
Man, those gloves look comfy as fuck.
Nice touch with the blue backlighting on the equipment
Thanks! Just something a little different.
Love your vids keep it up
Hey thank you! Appreciate you watching.
like it alot, will make one myself. possibly telescoping
Just FYI for peeps that may not know....silicon bronze mainly brazes in the flat position, or it can drip on you! It also needs clean metal and good gas coverage!
Cool build I got to make one random question what are those blue lights in you're shop LED?
I'll be finishing up welding school this year at a vocational school but we have yet to learn tig i have all of my F certifications and will be hoping to get my G certifications do you have any advice on how I can go about learning to tig weld?
PS you have a new subscriber
Keep up the uploads 😎😎
Will do!
Good job man.. I from Singapore
Nice built, considering this a long time, but still not sure, if I would it use again beside the video making 😀 And yeah, metric is great!!
I'm American and I can go both ways with measurements. I prefer imperial (inches) as it's what I'm most familiar with and most machining done in the US, as well as weld consumables are measured this way. However it's easy enough to convert. Inches to mm = inch measurement x 25.4 (1in = 25.4mm). mm to in is just division mm measurement / 25.4 (25.4/25.4 = 1 inch).
I'm also american and I also go both ways. . . oh you're talking about measurements? Gotcha
From the looks of it it wasn’t ideally as hot as it should of been when welding the counter weight correct?
Imperial and metric are both great to include if it's not too much hassle for you. Tip though, use mm for all metric, not cm though.
Dual units are very much appreciated. You’re adding to, not substituting for, imperial so who could possibly complain? :)
There have been a few complainers
Nice video.
Yes we like the metric dimensions
Bonjour,super vidéo et très explicite
I like the mm’s man!
Thanks for the video.
Of course I appreciate the mm...👍
From France...🤣
thanks to your channel and good explanation ilove it...takecare boss mabuhay ka
Keep the MM. CZcams is international, why not keep it universal? As im in America using the the Imperial system.
Yeah I figured that out when I started offering project plans. Had immediate requests for metric plans.
It's going to be more tedious, but helpful everyone.
Good content buddy!
Hi Justin how long was the finger and at how many inches was the bend and how many degrees did you bend it any info would be great thanks Mark
Justin, what welderwould you recommend for first tig, prdal or scratch/lift start?
Pedal 100%
Justin its very Beautiful like to know from where do you this
Love the stopper for the acetone can! the pry-open caps are a pain. Did you make or buy the stopper?
Had a piece of aluminum that was already turned down from something else and fit perfect. So I probably used up all my luck on that.
Digging the music
Who makes that tiny weighted bench vice you use in this vid?
Mine is made by Palmgren.
Did you use any flux on the silicon bronze? I use flux when I braze with it using O/A torch
No not when you are using a shielding gas
@@JustVoss ahh.. Yes. Idk what I was thinking.. But you still have to get everything shiny clean too, yea? ..rod included..
Гарна робота!
More mm! I have a printout next to my monitor to convert fractions of inch to mm because there's so many youtubers out there that just rattle off the fractions like everyone just knows what they're talking about.
Yeah I wondered how people dealt with that, I imagined pad and paper and then converted it all later if interested.
I really like the metric addition... i'm from South Africa and we use metric. every time i hear an imperial measurement i have to reach for the calculator haha..
What camera is this?
Do you run the same gas for brass. So Argon?
Yup Argon
Thanks for also mentioning the metric equivalent.
You bet!
Love the mm lol
We love metric Thanks so much
The metric is good material :)
Anyone know where to put the promo code on the everlast checkout page?
They are reworking the site to have a actual promo code section. For now you can put it in the comments section on checkout. It works for machines that come with a standard pedal and upgrades both the torch and the pedal.
Everyone else in the world uses Metric...it’s a good thing to incorporate👍
Agree
Love the fact you realise every what other then America uses the metric system. :) and as an Aussie boily, no one uses centimetres it's either mm or metres :) nice vids too mate, I need up get back into speciality tig again miss doing it
Really so people don't really use centimeters?
well yeah some people do. but mostly because thats what we are taught in school,, but anyone who builds things or any tradie will 99% of the time meassure in mm, but the good thing it that mm/cm is easy conversion ( 1.2m = 120cm = 1200mm )
What's the reason for the brass? Why couldn't you use the mild steel on both ends?
Just for looks, something different.
@@JustVoss Adding a silicon bronze facing to the tip of the third hand rod can help with grounding while tacking.
Please continue to use SI (metric) measurements for length, temperature, gas flow rates, etc, as much as is practical in your videos. Hopefully other US-based content creaters will follow suit.
Love the mm’s. Nice to see america finally decides to join the metric system. 😂. Nice project too. I think I’m gonna start with this one for my new students next september
Nice! Great thing for them to keep with them too.
Justin Voss I’ll send you pics in september
As a Belgian, I really like you also use metric!
👍👍
Boilermaker/coded welder My ears pricked up when I heard metric,
Checked comments it’s all good you will keep giving metric equivalent lots of positive comments on MM,
keep the UV and corona discharge going!
All of a sudden welding is looking good!
Looking awesome Justin great project. I appreciate the shoutout. Third Hands are up in the Chop Shop.
www.thehouseofchop.com/chop-shop
Great video! Yes please to surrender units. Inches are OK if you have to but the one to really avoid is "gauges" as I think these are all slightly different in the UK. 🤦🏾♂️
Yeah I've never really used gauges either.
Hola subtítulo Español !!! Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷 NEUQUEN
the finger would be good in brass or copper so you can weld next to it without sticking to steel
Palmgren Vice to the Rescue
Minute 7:08 what is that machine called?
Great video. Gonna have to check out that Everlast welder as I'm in the market for a DC tig and stick machine. I'd say that if you want to get some great info on silicon/bronze welding check out Jody over at welding tips and tricks. He's great at it.
If you dont know or dont want to say the measurements in mm, you can put some text up after the fact
Yes metrics good
MIddle-aged born and bread American vet here. Mom and apple pie and i prefer the metric system......
Justin, I mself prefer imperial! but to each their own.
mm is what keeps me watching you :) otherwise it takes too much time pausing and converting. Still can't realize why you guys overseas came up with such measurement which is obviously too large to be properly used, therefore all those 3/16s, etc :D
More mm. Thanks man...
On it!
very few people use MM thanks make s thing easier for us in India
The metric conversion is fine I just wish when I wanted other channels from other countries they had the same respect as us Americans.
What's the purpose of this tool
Holds pieces while your weld or tack them together.
Big chunk of brass. Budget be damned.
HOC!
creep life What’s up!!! 🤣🙌🏼
Millimeter please!!!! 😁👍
You appreciate me watching the video? Well ya know what? I appreciate that you appreciate that.
Constructive criticism... the music wrecks it. Unbelievable!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
