    I like Honda , the first car I drove was a Honda Civic back in 1988, it was great. My first motorcycle was a Honda MTX 125 cc , also great back in 1988. I like the design, but not a big fan of CVT , I prefer regular auto transmission . The price too is crazy, close to $60,000 for the top spec models ? That’s a LOT of money. As much as I like Honda I don’t see myself dropping 60 grand for one.

  • @Richkill

    IMO Toyota RAV4 is dominating the segment as it offers a hybrid in every trim level starting at $46k, while all the other car makers only offer hybrid or PHEV models at the highest trim levels well above $50-70k. Some tight budget buyers cant justify $5k increase.... Sure you could downsize or upsize in other brands, but again Toyota still has a hybrid model for that too.
    Sadly everyone wants a hybrid or EV now. Unless you had to buy a car ASAP due to an accident.

    • @miladsaeed3770
      @miladsaeed3770 Před 14 dny

      The problem with hybrid is the battery 5-7 years later which its cost then will wipe out all the saving on petrol during these years , the Rav 4 does not come with 7 seats also CVT for relatively big car like RAV4 is not ideal , Honda in this version failed with that relatively small engine for a big car which led to noisy driving also the 360 camera and CVT the only big bonus for Honda here is the interior spaces . Japanese philosophy as usual , economical fuel consumption at the expense of passenger comfort and performance to keep the fuel economy and car price affordable for most of people .

    We bought the top end PHEV model and some of the comment here about engine size and lack of power I just do not recognise and the comments are I can only assume from people who have not driven the vehicle or experienced the hybrid drive train. Its 2 litre petrol engine has plenty of enough power and if your looking for performance switching modes to sport you can feel a significant difference, the hybrid electric motors still add even if the battery has been used I have noticed (it seems to keep a reserve power when it get to needing the engine) I drove a 5 series 2 liter diesel tourer prior to this vehicle which was a 4 cylinder turbo (which is the norm nowadays ) and although you cannot compare the vehicles with the CRV being bigger and higher on the road , it not the rot of vehicle you would want to be throwing around at speed as its higher position and the safety features of which there man will do it best to stop yo driving outside its safe parameters. The issue of it being a 2 wheel drive when the cheaper models are AWD did seem odd but again the vehicle is equipped with a snow/mud mode which so far having driven BMW xdrive models will come down to the tyre your using which people often overlook the vehicles road contact is only as good as its tyres and ability to drive the vehicle in such conditions. There is a good range of winter tyres and Honda has used sensible wheels with the 18 inch commercial size significantly reducing costs and headaches like I experienced with my rear wheel BMW being different front and back size tyres which when fitted with snow tyres performed better than AWD with summer tyres.
    I am impressed with this vehicle and the battery is great for short local journeys which many of us do and when motorway driving at a steady 60 it ignificantly reduces engine/petrol use with its very clever configuration,the after features are simply impressive, having previous vehicles bought for safety in mid this one is at a next level. Finally although this is a classed as a mid size its a big vehicle and reminds me of the US presidential vehicle the beast in size, the JLR parked along side which can seat 7 is not significantly bigger in comparison, the Honda will seat 5 passengers who are tall very comfortably imo, my neighbours RAV is a lot smaller parked side by side . I can see myself being a Honda convert for the future - make no mistake this is avery well appointed vehicle.

They have AWD with the hybrid in North American and Europe. Why not Australia? Makes no sense.

    If you do the math, this works out to a roughly 1600 Kg weight and a small amount of power out of that engine. There's absolutely no way that you can avoid turbo lag with that much mass and that little displacement. It's just too large and heavy. Why this is important is that this means that the CVT is under a lot of stress already. Add in 5-7 passengers, fuel and fluids and it's dangerously close to 2000 kilos. I fear that this will be a very problematic drivetrain with a short life.

    • @gilbs72
      @gilbs72 Před 8 měsíci

      What's the torque and power?

    • @plektosgaming
      @plektosgaming Před 8 měsíci

      @@gilbs72 0:36 - specs here. To put this in perspective, this is roughly the same power to weight ratio as the old V6 4Runner from the early 1990s. The infamous "3.Slow". Or an old 2nd generation Honda Odyssey circa 2000. Why this is important is that this and the RAV-4. are basically the same big brick of a car as well with a small engine. They all are now. If you are in the U.S., this is identical to the Chevy Equinox - a step backwards as the weight and size went up to a 7 passenger vehicle. In fact, I'd recommend that as Honda and Toyota never have sales and if you want a big slow don't care as long as it gets to the store SUV for cheap, GM has good sales and financing. Of if you are in Australia, just buy an old Equinox - it'll drive the same and save you money. Lol.

    • @plektosgaming
      @plektosgaming Před 8 měsíci +4

      @@AJRV1-lc5wz The thing is, I knew one of two machine shops that actually rebuilt transmissions for the rest of the guys in the Los Angeles area - those "rebuilt" ones you always buy everywhere - and at the time he said that the Honda CVTs were terrible if you pushed them too hard. The issue is that the average calculation for weight in Japan is about 60Kg, per person. In the U.S., it was not uncommon to see 80Kg. Add in more cargo and anything that has 7 seats was coming apart due to repeated driveline lash as people were using it like a low cost pickup truck or large SUV. People outside of Japan tend to speed and also just hammer the thing to the floor if we think it's low on power. His comment was that Honda didn't over-engineer their CVTs with U.S. abusive driving in mind, so they were repeatedly encountering heavy loads and hard acceleration. That is, that the poor reliability was due not to the transmission but the pairing of a big minivan and a small engine/CVT combination. That was admittedly 15 years ago, but the fact remains that I see the same "perfect storm" of high cargo capacity, high weight, and a small engine that has to rev hard to keep up. With that CVT stuck in the middle. Same with the RAV-4 as well, and here in the U.S., the Chevrolet Equinox. Drive it VERY gently and you are fine. But I suspect that drivers over there aren't much different. Lol. We love our big engines and have places to get to. If we have a small turbo engine, we simply mash that pedal down harder to compensate.

      Doubly so when you consider that it went up in size over the previous generation. Imagine if you had 5 or 6 of your local rugby/football/etc teenagers in it - the thing would grind itself to nothing in a few years. The old model survived because as a 5 passenger vehicle people won't put as much weight in it. But a larger cargo area... plus more seats... and the same CVT... We've seen this in the past with the late 90s Honda minivans. Designed for smaller Japanese people and cargo norms - soon to be used as a makeshift electrician's truck or to haul cement bags and furniture all day long. (given that the alternative a proper truck is twice the money)

    Don't buy a CR-V. Getting the 2024 CRV AWD EX was the most expensive mistake of my life, I left my oil burning 2016 VW golf for this terrible machine. Unfortunately, I was under time pressure at the time and I'd always wanted something bigger than the Golf, but didn't have a lot of time to shop around. Honda has this "amazing" reputation and I didn't want to get another Rav 4 (wife & daughter drive one). The Honda's engine seems a bit peppier than the 2020 RAV4 although still sluggish and strained. The only thing the CR-V brings to the table is that it has more cargo space and AWD. However, compared to the Golf, the amount of convenient cabin storage space is garbage. With Honda you get one giant bin in the middle and tiny door pockets. The "safety" features on the CR-V are highly overrated. This car has SO much visibility, that blind spot monitoring is an unnecessary gimmick. The adaptive cruise control is actually DANGEROUS! I use cruise control ALL the time. Including on local 2 lane highways. Multiple times, the system started braking the vehicle when there was NO obstacle present. At least two of these times, I believe it had something to do with reflection of sunlight off something to the side of the road. One time was on a four lane divided highway bridge! Additionally, a light misty rain will disable adaptive cruise control and then the control panel screams at you to "clean" the front sensor which is the badge located on the front of the grill. One safety feature that you'd expect to come standard on such an expensive vehicle, doesn't. That's rain sensing windshield wipers, a feature that my eight year old 2016 Golf had! The back-up camera has nice features, but are useless because the camera is mounted in such a way that it's always hard to see clearly. The VW golf hid the camera under the badge and NEVER required cleaning. I've also never heard of a car that turns off the radio with the engine when you park. Most cars leave it on until the door is opened so you can finish listening to a song or podcast. On the honda, you have to go through a complex set of steps putting it in park, but releasing the brake before you release the shifter button and then press the ignition twice to keep the radio on. The remote engine start at 100 ft on a good day is also useless to me as I work at a pretty big facility with large lots out of range of the buildings. If I had to guess, I'd say that every honda engineer that designed the CR-V took a train to work and had never commuted in their own vehicle before in their life. I'd rather drive a thoughtfully well designed, fun car and start burning oil at 80K than this poorly designed, over-priced gimmick. I should have stayed with a German car.
